John Meadows Best Gyms In America | Montanari Brothers Powerhouse Gym
Спорт
In today's episode of the best gyms in America we go to the famous Montanari Brothers Powerhouse gym in the wonderful state of Connecticut. As always I would love to hear some gyms you would like me to come see so leave them in the comments below.
The gym is operated by the four Montanari Bros.; Richie, Jerry, Dino and Darin. Richie Montanari, an avid powerlifter at the time, started East Coast Power Gym in 1984 and after a few years of training in cramped quarters, decided that a bigger place with more equipment and room to train was needed. Opening the first Gold’s Gym in the state of Connecticut in 1987 was the result. Since then, the gym has been owned and operated by the Montanari Bros. and regarded as one of the best gyms both nationwide and throughout the world. The gym was opened in 1987 as a place that anyone interested in self-improvement could call home. Today, bodybuilders, powerlifters, athletes, men, women, old, young, big, small, blue-collar and white collar all come together to create the family atmosphere you find at this gym. In 2012, not wanting to commit to the recently developed “fitness club” ideals of corporate Gold’s Gym, the decision was made to franchise under Powerhouse Gym as a way to preserve and further the integrity of the gym. It’s great to be able to say that everything else has remained the same.

John Meadows is an American professional bodybuilder and entrepreneur with an intriguing story. While John now boasts a successful career as an IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness company owner, his journey towards the top was extremely difficult.
Growing up, John never met his father, and his mother died at an extremely young age. This meant John only had his grandmother to take care of him. When his grandmother tragically passed away in 1999, John was left alone without his family to support him.
As the years went by, John continued to face new adversities in his life. During his early days in bodybuilding, John suffered from a rare colon disease. After fighting the disease for several months, his colon burst - almost resulting in his death. Luckily, John was quickly rushed to an emergency room where his life was saved. After several months of recovery, John was finally back on his feet.
Coming back into bodybuilding, John used the very obstacles that almost cost him his life as ‘fuel’ to grow stronger. Ever since he recovered from the colon surgery, John has gone on to become a successful bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and inspiration for many people all over the world.

This looks better then Golds gym, and not so crowded. Such a blessing to have those kind of Gyms in the world.

Love it, Evan's like a kid showing off all his toys.
I just moved to Vegas from Connecticut. I can tell you first hand that there is no gym in Vegas that can touch the Montanari’s Powerhouse Super Gym. It is by far the best gym I have ever trained at. Richie, Darrin, Jerry, Evan and Drew miss all you guys.
Total destination gym for sure. To hear real metal plates clanging in the background in this day of rubber coated faux plates is music to my ears. Also appreciate the fact that there is NO music playing in the gym. Road trip!
I love that you are showing all the great gyms you are visiting! It is so cool to see all the unique pieces of equipment at each. They are all bad ass in their own way.
Johns little "ha ha's" get me. Like the one at 17:59 geeking out over the mirror trick.
Evan Centopani, favourite bodybuilder hands down, been following him since I can remember - back in like Early 2000s I think. I met him in New Zealand, when I was helping with an NZIFBB show, he was happy to answer any questions I had, spend some time having a chat and the man even gave me and the other guys a couple of his 'blue collar bodybuilding' shirts! Still wear it in the gym today, and when I wear it, I feel like I can channel my 'inner Evan' haha and I execute my lifts with as best form and intensity as I can. Boom!
Makes me want to move just so I can be a part of that gym and atmosphere 😌😌
That nautilus Pullover machine makes me moist. Damn I'm envious! Super cool gym! 💪

@@crazykorean2268 Thats one version. My favorite had a combination lat pulldown, so as soon as you did the pullovers, immediately onto the pulldowns. Similar combination machines included leg ext, leg press and fly chest press. The intensity you could achieve was unique.
wow, speechless... The owners and Evan and John, what camaraderie, what sportsmanship, consummate professionals.
John, love the series. That said... Quads set the bar really high imo. These gyms are fantastic.

I’ve made the pilgrimage from Long Island to New Haven man times and honestly I would do that 3+hr trip every day of the week over the 20 minutes to Bevs. Can’t say enough good things about Montanari- top class equipment with world-class people. .

John, these tours are awesome for old guys who appreciate equipment from the past. Keep doing the demos on the equipment, it helps the viewer to understand the mechanics of the movement.
Also, the older equipment just seems to hit the muscles the best. That leg extension that Evan pointed out is a prime example. There was one of those in the EOS that I go to and they replaced it with a newer model. Complete garbage. The old saying: “They don’t make em like they used to”, couldn’t be more true when it comes to gym equipment.
You had me at the Nautilus Pullover! That's back from the days of Iron Men and Wooden ships!

I love the gym sounds the weights hitting and clanking together. It's like anything in life you have a passion for cars, boats, art, like you John I love those old gyms and the equipment nothing better, I can spend all day there.
The power house gym is very famous for many olympians'working out there, i've heard. I'm excited about the rare machines in there!
I always love John's shirts, so cool that he's into sci Fi and stuff like that.
Just by looking at the equipment gives me goosebumps!!

Naval Air Station Lemoore had a Standing Calve raise machine that topped out at 580lbs. Not sure if it still has it, but it was an old machine, and I never seen another one like it.

That gym has transformers as members 💪🏻🤖
Love Evan!!! I miss watching his food and cooking videos. He's definitely one of the best.
John Meadows, more than a legend. He was a God
Definitely looks like an awesome gym.
POWERHOUSE IS THE BOMB! The changed the powerhouse location in chatsworth to crunch fitness. Nothing like it was before 😢
Never met my dad either Mad dog, I grew up with a step man who was a rear end. I’m self employed, successful and happy as an adult. 👍🏻 like your vids and shirts
John love this! I am like a kid in a candy store with old school gym equipment or just unique pieces in general. When I travel I scope out new gyms to try & always get butterflies en route lol! I also love to modify equipment on my personal pieces so the custom stuff is def cool. I have quite a few personal pieces I’ve chosen specifically bc I’ve visited multiple gyms and they “feel” the best. Oh and u had one of my fave guests..Evan to boot!
Definitely gonna take a longgg roadtrip based off this series right here!
Damn, really nice gym.
This series is awesome!

I had one of the icarian squat machines. Super heavy duty.
In the early days of bodybuilding bodybuilders had their own gyms like Vince gironda, George eiferman, Joe Gold, leprinzi's gym, Bob Hoffman... Bev Francis... they had their gym etiquette posted... but not nowadays, most gyms are corporate or franchise... they know nothing about bodybuilding... it's all geared to selling contract memberships!
Amazing gym..
WOOOOAAAAAHHHHHH AMAZING 😯😀
Evan inspired me to go get my nebula ghd from storage and place it in my garage.
That smith machine is the cooler one .. amazing gym
Sick gym
Love these videos John💋 I see a TV show! Or even on Netflix! If you're ever on the Murphy NC Area come see us at the Parc 🔩
Absolutely LOVE this series John! 🙏 Thank you! If you come to Thailand 🇹🇭 please stop by Muscle Factory Bangkok!
Love Evan and his cooking vids 🤘🏻
Wow, what a gym.
John I promise I'll get there asap!
That is a beautiful gym 💪🏼
awesome gym! and great series. John, if you ever head over to Fibo in Cologne, Germany. Please make sure to visit us at Trainingslager Köln. We have a lot of those old school chain driven Nautilus Machines here as well. Would love to welcome you here! Best Wishes!!
I rather workout here than golds gym ! Love old machines ! Nice video John
Okay yes I'm ready to order now. I'll take that decline machine press, the forearm curler, and the dip machine too please and thank you. Yup, that'll be to-go. (thanks John!!)
Probably one of the only things I miss about CT.
John come on down to Strong & Shapely Gym in East Rutherford, NJ. Legendary gym with lots of old school equipment.
PLEASE do a video on equipment brands, and the history of equipment, and the differences and what you look for in a machines. the whole deal
What made Nautilus equipment special was the cam... every exercise was an all-in-one... Mike Metzger, used the Nautilus equipment... if you ever watched his videos.... Nautilus equipment is super heavy and it takes up too much floor space that's why you don't see them anymore!
Got to Reds in Lafayette Louisiana. They have all these pieces in PERFECT condition and multiples of them
