I first heard this song on Devs years ago as my marriage was falling apart, I remember thinking that I want to feel this way about someone one day and share this song with someone who loved me and slow dance in my living room holding that person, I did it last night ❤

I always have the same reaction to these live JM clips: I look at his red face & glazed eyes & I say "oooh shit, he's wasted, he's gonna blow it" as he sets up the intro, and then he moves toward the mic & I say "ooh shit, here goes", and he starts singing, and it's (once again) the most moving, passionate performance I've ever heard from the man. Whatta guy.

Alex. One time I saw him and his son Spencer had to literally attach him to pretuned guitars and initially an annoyed unfriendly audience heckled him (due to obvious inebriation) until John, Spencer Cozens, John Giblin and Arran Ahmun treated the Audience to another sublime experience. Boy do I miss Him, recordings are great but as we know you had to see the man!

I have always loved John Martyn’s music, having been introduced to hi m back in the early 80’s, by an Irish boyfriend, I saw him twice, first in London when he was a young man, and Sweet Little Mystery was one of my favorite songs, still is. Then we saw him in Nottingham, and was so shocked to realize how badly life had treated him. I cried when Ken Bruce announced his death, shortly after that concert. So heartbreakingly sad, and his music, especially Sapphire, just touches my heart. RIP John x

Beverley his ex wife made a rather sad remark during an interview in which she said the biggest irony about John was that he wrote the most beautiful, sensitive, romantic and insightful songs but was incapable of actually living by such 'values' and always put himself first. She seemed so bitter and clearly was making the point that actions speak louder than words...or pretty songs! He may not have been good marriage material but I love his music and was glad to have seen him 'live' in the 80's.

Just that sweet little mystery that breaks my heart Just that sweet little mystery makes me cry O that sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me try. My friends all tell me that I look so sad They don't need to ask me why They know the reason that I feel so bad Since the night you said goodbye It's not the letters that you just don't write It's not the arms of some new friend It's not the crying in the dead of the night That keeps me hanging on, waiting for the end. Just that sweet little mystery that's in your heart Just that sweet little mystery makes me cry Oh that sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me try. I watch the street, I watch the radio I don't need to turn it on Another friend comes by and tries to say hello Another weekend's almost gone It's not the letters that you just don't write It's not the arms of some new friend It's not the crying in the depth of the night That keeps me hanging on, just waiting for the end. It's that sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me cry Oh that sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me try. The time is flying fast, and I don't care To spend another night alone I want to see you, but I don't know where Till then I'm walking on my own It's not the letters that you just don't write It's not the arms of some new friend It's not the crying in the depth of the night That keeps me hanging on, just waiting for the end. It's that sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me cry Oh that sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me try. That sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me cry Oh that sweet little mystery that's in your heart It's just that sweet little mystery that makes me try. Sweet mystery, sweet mystery Sweet mystery, sweet mystery, sweet mystery Sweet mystery, sweet mystery, sweet mystery Sweet mystery, sweet mystery, sweet mystery.

How I have got to the age of 50 without discovering John before, gob-smacked...truly amazing, plays with his heart and soul, a new fan, I may be late to the party, although finally I have got there!

If you haven’t seen/heard him sing “Over the rainbow” , “Couldn’t love you more” or “Solid air” then I suggest you do (live versions are absolute genius) 👏💖

The album is called Grace And Danger, and a beautiful album it is, too. RIP, Mr Martyn. Thankyou so much for leaving us with what you did.

Born in the 50's...influenced by psychedelia -like "Jefferson Airplane"- in late 60's/early 70's....and tonight--almost 50 years later the word STORMBRINGER popped out of my mind--leading to listen this most INNERfeeling song ......SO MUCH IN CONTRAST TO THIS NOWADAYS COLDHEARTED SOCIETY!!!!!! What a luck!!! Thanx John!!
