    Good video but you forgot to remove and clean the low speed jet. It is located on the top of the carburetor by the idle adjustment screw. It has a couple of cross drilled ports and a very small port in the end of it that clogs very easily.

    adam vernier errr... that’s a tough one. I’ve had some luck with green parts direct in the past but a lot of times I just scout eBay. Warning! Prices are usually high for these little parts and pieces. Mainly because they are going extinct lol. If you need anything else or are interested in used parts email me at garagegearjb@gmail.com I sometimes get parts for these. I can sell them to you through PayPal. I just have to ask how do you know which Mikuni carb you have or are they the same for many models. It is on a FB460V-BS00 . Also the clear tube on this carb I don't have or know what its purpose is. Help!!!!

  • @GarageGear

    Great questions Keith! These carbs are all pretty much the same. They all function pretty much the same and maybe have only a few cosmetic differences. They all clean the same way too. As far as the tube goes I’m not 100% sure it’s purpose. It’s either a fuel overflow because I’ve seen coming out of one before or it’s an air intake. Fuel should not be leaking out of this tube. If you have any more questions let me know thank you for checking out my channel!

    Cleaned out my JX75 the pin holding the float wouldn’t come out so I could get out the needle. Cleaned out the rest of the carb and put back into mower. Gaskets and o-ring was in good shape but the mower still hunts, do you think the needle would be the cause of the hunt. When I blow in the gas inlet the float works and when needle is closed it doesn’t allow air through. Trying to figure out why it’s still hunting? Could it be hunting from the throttle pin? I didn’t clean that.

  • @GarageGear

    @GarageGear

    4 жыл бұрын

    Les Branton I would check that needle again. Usually once you get all the parts clean those things run really well. Could always get a new needle and float and it should work even better probably. Also check the throttle pin by adjusting it a quarter turn at a time to see if that helps. Don’t adjust it too much. Just play with it a little. And see how it goes.

    Thanks for this video. I have a John Deere LX 178 with the Kawasaki engine. I replaced the carburetor in 2018 with a genuine Mikuni carb. Ran great until last year. I watched several youtubes and worked through how to take it apart and clean it. Ran great all last summer. Now, however the mower will run for 20 minutes and then die like it it not getting fuel. I have taken the carb on and off so many times now that I could probably do it blindfolded. Question is how do you adjust it - assuming I have something out of whack? I am able to adjust the idle screw while running - is there another adjustment? It also surges when the mower is disengaged. I am not sure what to try next?

    I took it apart again yesterday mimicking what you did. It ran great for about 5 minutes - cut half a row of grass and then sputtered and died. I can restart it - then it sputters and dies. There is the one screw that has a black plastic limiter cap on it that allows me to turn it about 3/4 of a turn before the plastic contacts the metal and stops the turn. I can turn that while it is running by pushing with a screwdriver - I couldn't tell that it did anything. If I knew it was the carburetor - I wouldn't hesitate to replace as I don't think you can get this quality of engine for an affordable price these days. The surging was not occurring yesterday. The float did not have anything in it. The needle just drops down in the hole and appeared to be making contact with the float. SO....you could write a book about what I don't know on engines in general. Just became a thing with me to fix my own stuff when we had to start working from home due to company protocols. Fixed the Dryer, Fridge Water Dispenser, New Water Heater - but the Mower has me stymied.

    @GarageGear

    @@robrogers331 hey Rob! The throttle adjustment screw with the black plastic cap is adjustable. If you moved it you will have to set it back to normal. Put it somewhere back in the middle and start the engine up. Then adjust it to bring the throttle up or down. I’m not sure what the rpm’s on your model must be but if you have an hour meter you can hook that up to it and set them to where they need to be. Can probably find your rpm’s online somewhere. Play with that adjustable screw and let me know what happens! 👍

    How to change drivebelt for this same John Deere mower model?

  • @GarageGear

    @GarageGear

    3 жыл бұрын

    That is a tough job. Especially if parts are seized on. Here’s how I’ve done it twice in the past and if there are easier ways out there I’d love to hear them. Remove the blade and blade brake clutch. Loosen the engine bolts. Remove the blade brake clutch spring. Change the belt out and relighted the engine mount bolts. Put on your bbc again. Take the bbc spring and put it in a vise. Bend it side to side and insert quarters or washers in between its rings to lengthen the spring. Once you’ve made it long enough, reconnect the spring to the deck hook and bbc. Then remove the washers or quarters you used. Put your blade back on and you should be good to go. Kind of a tricky job. Hope this helps. Thanks for checking out my channel.

    Thanks for this nice video! Any thoughts on how to remove a difficult main jet from a JX75 Mikuni carburetor? I tried with a regular screwdriver and it mangled the slot of the soft brass main jet. I couldn't find a main jet for sale, so I bought a used JX75 Mikuni carburetor and asked a machinist to remove the main jet for use in my carburetor. He also mangled the slot.

  • @GarageGear

    Indiana Innovation sounds like that main jet is really in there. In the past if they were stuck, I would just hose them out really well (for at least a minute) with carb cleaner. Just stick the carb straw inside and start spraying. Usually if it’s stuck I just spray and pray lol. See how it works and keep me posted. Thanks for watching!

    Is that carburetor just like the one that goes on the John Deere GX75- Kawasaki 9 horse. rider maybe similar but smaller?? There was also the RX75 and SX between about 1987 through 92? Really small mine has a 30-in deck engine behind the rider I have more time than money to pay the dealer💸💸 like you I'm afraid I'll screw something up. I do know those Kawasaki motors are bulletproof and run great for many years when they're all cleaned up!! Thx✌️

    Took our John Deere 14SB mower in to Mower repair people..two times in Maplewood used it a couple of times after each vist and again can not start it. Last time to a place in Metuchen did Carb kit and "clean"..used once after that wont start.. How about a brand new Carburetor..wont it finally solve this curse of an issue?? I see after market Carburetors for peanuts ? $20 ..what kind of Carburetor can that be for $20 ?? But the OEM John Deere made by Mikuni..sold by Kawasaki to John Deere and then marked up yet again by Deere..then sold by JD dealers..totals $125 for the Carb ?? A bit too much for a piece that may not solve my no start/hard to start issue..? What do you think Garage Gear ?

  • @GarageGear

    merseybeat1963 hey there! There is quite a bit of mark up on parts for these nowadays. You could potentially try buying a used mikuni carb on eBay and clean it yourself. I’ve seen them on there for about $30-$60 depending on condition and what’s included. Paying a John Deere place is going to empty your wallet faster than those mowers cut! Hopefully this helps you out!
