Yes, it definitely looks like it is supposed to be there. This is one of the silly things that is considered an upgrade when moving up in the E100 series, when really it should just be on there to begin with.
one feature you may want to say is jd raise deck up to 4 inches before engage or disengage blade deck. or you will throw belt off. see owners manual

@@WesternEquipment just an update on my mower. I've now had it for nearly a week and could not be more happier with my purchase. These are such a nice little mower. They are really easy to drive, handle and service. All thanks to your videos. Thanks once again.
Hey mate I'm in Australia and I own an acre of land with plans to build in the new year. I've been stuck between the 100 and the 110. I'm leaning toward the 110 just chasing your opinion on the matter. It's a bit uneven plus there's about 5 meters high difference between the front of the property to the back. So slight gradient nothing to crazy though. Mind you I've watched all your videos on both mowers cheers mate🍻 👍

Joe thanks for watching our videos! I would go with E110. The videos show differences but you will like the hydrostatic trans so much better. Check out Emmetts in Australia. They are good friends and good people.
Great Video Brent !! - I have been looking at the S130 but saw an E110 which was about 300 dollars less so I am doing a comparison. One comparison is the S130 has rear tires 20x10x8 while the E110 has 20x8x8 -- Can you comment if bigger rear tires mean a difference in cutting height ? Thanks.
@WesternEquipment
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! To answer your question, no the cutting height will not be affected. The bigger tires are just to add for more traction and a smoother ride.
I bought my E110 new. I noticed it would blow some whitish smoke for about 30 seconds after startup, then no smoke at all. My John Deere dealer did the initial service for free and when I asked about the smoke, he said "They do that". What I actually see when I open the hood is moisture seeping out of the welds of the muffler. I'm not sure if it's just that moisture burning off or more than that. Then engine runs fine. And, I just did my own service (at 80 hours) on it and it still smokes.
@WesternEquipment
2 жыл бұрын
Hmm this is interesting. I know that they usually smoke, like you're talking about, on a cold start, but I feel like after 80 hours it should not be doing this anymore. Is it using oil?
@CoryDrummer
2 жыл бұрын
@@WesternEquipment I check my oil level all the time thinking that might be it. But, it's not burning oil at all. Strange.

I'm debating on this model, or the e130. I'm mowing a 8/10 acre with just a septic hill does the v-twin, or Horse power matter when doing just mowing?
@WesternEquipment
3 жыл бұрын
I would say with that much to mow that you may want to consider the E130 for the comfort. The E130 has a higher backed seat than the E110 and you may have better luck with the larger V-Twin engine in the E130. Let me know what you decide and thanks for watching!

Brent, it seems like JD has basically taken the E110, dropped it to a 17.5 HP, and rebranded it as the S100, with the E100 going away altogether. Is that about right?
@WesternEquipment
3 жыл бұрын
So John Deere just did away with the CVT transmission that was on the E100 model. Now all S100 series mowers will have the same hydrostatic transmission. One change to the model line up is that they did away with the E150 and did not replace it with an S150.
I had to replace the ACR ( Auto compression Release ) on my neighbors 17 hp Briggs engine that comes in these mowers. Not that bad a job but this mower only had 60 hours on it and less than two years old. Briggs has been going downhill for sometime and as most know filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy this past July. I have a D110 with the 19.5 Briggs that is 10 years old that my wife uses at my home with 250 hours on it. Adjusted the valves at 200 hours and also change the oil as suggested. The muffler is too loud but other than that its been good. At my shop I use my 1995 JD GT 262 with the Kawasaki 17.5 engine I bought new and never done a thing to it. Not sure about the hours but it has been used a lot. I always keep it in the building , It looks as good as the day I bought it except for the cracked hood. Common on these model mowers. Its much quieter than these Briggs and much better engine. I also paid a lot of money for this one in 1995. Cost around $4000 back then but this one is still going strong. You get what you pay for so keep that in mind when cutting corners on these JD mower. Check out a JD dealer instead of the box stores if you want one that will last.

Wow, interesting stuff! Glad to hear about those mowers still going strong. And unfortunately we do here things like this about the newer Briggs engines. Thank you for watching and for the comment!
I wish they would put the Kawasaki FR engines in some of these, if not all of them.

you recommend using regular unleaded or premium?

Don’t get this mower. There is no way to adjust the belt tensioner on the deck, so the belt is constantly snapping or popping off. It’s a poor design. The engine and everything else runs great. I’ve had it put in the shop twice because they said it was bad pullies at the shop. I got it back and have the same issues. My neighbor has the E100 and the deck belt does the same thing on his mower. I’ll never buy another John Deere mower! It’s not worth the price I paid for it. Other models let you adjust the tensioner.
