Maybe this is true, maybe it’s not. What I do know is Grand Seiko’s are U G L Y. I’ll take an Omega or Rolex at +2spd over a Grand Seiko even if it’s dead accurate. Of course if I wanted accuracy that tight as a priority, I’d just buy an American designed Apple Watch.

The finishing, the design, and everything related to the brand makes it a true competitor to well-renown watchmakers like Rolex, for instance. The field where GS fails is the marketing strategy, although in Asia, GS is very popular. Most people wrongfully confuse GS with Seiko, but real watch fans do appreciate it. The level of explanation can go as deep as any physicist or scientific person in the industry can take it. Growing gears on silicon is something no other watch manufacturers can do. And it’s something that no counterfeiter could ever copy, it would simply be too expensive to try. MEMS gear would have accuracy measured in angstroms. weight tolerances of plus or minus picograms. Dimensions tolerance or picometers. Take all the science in the world and throw it in a watch. This is what you get. Now combine it with all the art in the world. 7 years training jsut to be able to be be a beginner at Ziratsu polishing, what the Swiss would call black mirror polishing. The list goes on and on from the silver plating on the dial representing iced over snow ripples on Japanese mountain to the blued stainless hardware done so perfectly there’s zero flaws. The Japanese always take thing away too far.

I like how Joe finally saw the thing about mechanical watches. He used to make fun of watch people. Till he saw a mechanical movement in operation. They are like tiny cities everything working in unison. If one thing is off the entire thing stops. Screws that look like a grain of sand. The thing with mechanical watches I find interesting is Is the introduction of new complications. The new interesting design of the train wheel layout. Or bring old complications back. I'd love to see more mechanical watches with alarm functions. The tiny striker hitting the chime. Idk just something about taking a well established quartz watch with an Alarm function and going back to days of Pocket watch complications. Making them even smaller. Vulcains Cricket is a awesome example. Then there is also the race to make the thinnest mechanical movement. Some are less than a thin quartz watch. This is a Automatic watch. Thinner than 5 credit cards stacked.

Orient: Toyota. Seiko: Toyota-Lexus. GS: Lexus-Lexus LFA. The movement and finish from dial to bracelet is just too good on most GS imo

The only thing he didn't mention is spring drive whilst being innovative, it's simply a complicated way for a mechanical to achieve near quartz levels of accuracy. Great finishing though, which is not something you can say for Seiko.

Near Quartz? Sorry but do your homework...it stomps quartz in every way possible.

@@peteygnycin what way? It's not as accurate as a thermocompensated HAQ movement. Say a GS 9f. That wipes the floor with even the latest spring drive.
