    Joe’s not getting it. I honestly couldn’t see anything wrong it till I imagined one of my brothers hanging from that tree. And for some self absorbed KZreadr like Logan Paul to find him and post a KZread video of himself randomly laughing while looking at my dead brother and saying, “this is the craziest thing *I’ve* ever seen! Wow *I* can’t unsee this! This is by far the craziest and most surreal vlog *I’ve* ever made.” *Me me me* Man, get over yourself. My brother’s literally hanging from a tree and all you can say is “wow, this is the craziest video I’ve ever made for my KZread channel”? Thats the issue.

    From that p.o.v. if a crazy killer was hunting you down, are you going to be thinking about his family? About the abuse he may or may not have had in his life that made him this way to hunt you down? Or are you going to say to yourself, this is fucked. Im fucked. This is the craziest moment of my life. If i survive this..blah blah..the problem is you put yourself not in logan pauls shoes, but on the opposite end that gives you a biased sensitive viewpoint. In pauls shoes, its a crazy thing to witness, and if you watched his vlog he preached soo many times in that video about how suicide isnt the answer, how its not funny, he hit some real points. It wasnt a mockery of a dead guy hanging like how people are playing it out to be.

  • @TimeGallon

    @TimeGallon

    6 жыл бұрын

    Mickey Jewnyear A youtuber posting a video and an interaction with a potential murderer are clearly two totally separate issues. Yes, you’re still allowed to feel sympathy for the a killer’s life but that’s not incredibly useful when someone sincerely threatens your well-being. If someone is displaying clear intent to fatally harm me, It’s best if I ignore any peripheral details surrounding me, including those that may have lead this person to attack, and focus on how I can preserve my life in the moment of chaos. And that’s not cruelty or a lack of empathy, that’s wisdom. In the case with Logan Paul, he clearly uploaded the video for views (as he does with all videos.) There’s nothing wrong with desiring a strong following and viewership but that doesn’t exempt you from moral etiquette. The big picture here is that the suicide of someone’s child, friend, brother, etc. is a tragedy that should be treated with the victims loved ones most at mind. They get the say in wether or not you can use the footage of their child, loved one, etc. not you. That’s just a matter of respect. You don’t get Carte Blanche with something like that without paying the price for it. And there’s been enough said about this in the media and elsewhere to show that there is a price to be paid for disregarding the respect of the family (I don’t think Logan intentionally disregarded the family, but you don’t have to be aware of a wrongdoing for it to be wrong.) If someone can’t se how it’s disrespectful to the family then we’re reaching a point called “wit’s end.” If you don’t understand how posting a video of someone’s dead child on KZread could be considered insensitive, then I’m not sure how I can explain it. I’m at my wit’s end. As for Logan’s side: I totally understand, I would’ve been at a loss of words and probably would’ve said around the same things he said. I also may have made some unbecoming jokes in the moment because I, too, tend to combat “real” moments with shots of humor. That being said, I MOST DEFINITELY WOULD NOT HAVE POSTED IT. The respect for the family and friends to the privacy of their tragedy should always take precedent over any benefit I may gain from exploiting it. It’s like itching to tell a good joke at a funeral when everyone else is tearful and mourning. Yes, the joke may be great, but there’s a time and a place for everything and it’s demonstrably disrespectful to ignore the sorrow of those mourning in favor of a good laugh. Even though the video was replete with warnings against suicide and the severity of it, I think wisdom would tell you that no measure of reassurance of the gravity of suicide gives you warrant to exploit the tragedy of someone. I didn’t see Logan do anything overboard-insensitive in the video, but I certainl would not have posted it.

Do you feel better now...? The reason as to why I'm disappointed is because he just didn't say much at all to be honest... He didn't see the video at all and doesn't seem to even know much about the whole Logan Paul thing anyways (which is FIIINE, before you get allll up in arms about that...) He just usually has some deep shit to talk about regardless on WHAT his opinion is... it was more like an "Oh I don't know who this is, some KZread kid" didn't really seem to give two shits on the subject anyways. Again, which is fiiiiiine! He couldn't really give us an opinion... I just expected some more deeper shit as per usual... So you can just relaaaaax on your all caps-ness and take a breath.

    For those who feel rubbed the wrong way by Joe's words, I believe he was trying to grapple with how human beings receive this kind of content on a more abstract level than is usual. There are a range of reactions to content like this and I think he was trying to see things from different, albeit less sympathetic, perspectives - even emotionally disassociated ones. I'm not disappointed by Joe's words and I don't think he was too high. I think he has a very popular show and people sometimes take his casual thoughts while he's feeling around an issue as his conclusive stance on it. Let's not jump on people for saying things that deviate from our own thinking. Let's try to step into their situation and ask ourselves, beyond our first reaction, why someone might be saying what they are. We can always come back to our emotions after stretching our empathy. Cheers :)

    Josh Josh it's a fine line between "looking at things from all angles" and just being contrarian. Joe Rogan types tend to be the latter. I'm not trying to start an argument but "American Libertarian" dudes thrive on being contrarian and playing devil's advocate because it makes them feel superior. You know I do think it is important to consider different points of view and opinions and not believe everything that you're told, but sometimes even the "mainstream crowd" gets it right. Basic human decency is more important than being a badass maverick or whatever

    Unfortunately Joe is so eager to jump on the anti-political correctness bandwagon that he ends up occasionally making excuses for people who actually deserve to be criticized. A lot of the time he's right: these lynchmobs that spring up when somebody says something politically incorrect are a problem. But it's hardly surprising this douchebag got criticized for what he did. He went out of his way to find a guy who'd committed suicide and showed it in a KZread video just to get clicks, in the process disrespecting the victim and plastering somebody's relative's face all over the internet. It's beyond despicable to put somebody's family through that just to get a few clicks on KZread. This isn't about political correctness this time, it's just about having basic decency. That little shit has none and he deserves all the hate he's getting.

    you just don''t get it, they showed a dead body of a guy who hung himself, IN japan's suicide forest, a place that is to be RESPECTED, according to the Japanese, and disrespected japans culture, they LAUGHED at the dead body made jokes, and made humor, which is DISRESPECTFUL, He was very disrespectful towards the man who told him he should not be in that area. IT IS A CLEAR EXPLOITATION OF A VERY VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. Regardless of whether or not your offended by the images , they VIOLATE youtubes guide lines, plus pual logan showed blatant disrespect for the dead. you are obviously OK with laughing at a suicide victims body , in a place who's culture dictates that area and it's victims are to be respected, every one on youtube MUST respect and obey the youtube guide lines whether or not youtube/google gives them rule exemptions and celebrity immunity. IF i had posted a video like that , that video would be taken down and my channel would be suspended, but NOT youtube celebrity paul logen, he can be as disrespectful as he likes because he's corporate sponsored youtube celebrity paul logan.

    And still realizes everybody is probably overreacting. If you watched the video honestly oh know Bryan, like a lot of people, are adding shit that didn’t happen. They don’t laugh at his blue hands they were mentioning them while trying to see if he was alive. They didn’t laugh or make jokes about the dead body they were mortified, looked into the camera and said sucide is not a joke. He also put disclaimers and and intro and depression and sucide with the sucide hotline number. Also he didn’t monitize the video and made it clear. So really Bryan has never seen the video or is dishonest which is the case with you too probably

Especially if its someone from a different culture where privacy is very important, and even more when the person you find killed himself. Thats not the problem here. Were specifically talking about someone who killed himself laying around in an area which is famous for people killing themself in it. I think it's wrong to enter such an area just for attention and views. I wouldn't mind if he went in there but excluded the footage of the dead guy, explaining in the vid he did find one but out of respect for the family turned off the camera and went home. And even if you do upload the picture, at least be respectful instead of thinking about a fucking thumbnail with it...... Its more a "why do this thing?" kinda upset, not a "oh dead people are gross and scary" kinda upset. The fact so many people just dont get that shows a lot havent watched the footage OR have a very low emotional intelligence.

    While I usually agree with Joe on most things, I don't know about this one. Joe didn't make it clear how he feels in this case, but didn't really seem like Logan did anything wrong. If you think there is nothing wrong with what Logan did with his actions and with this video, you must either be a fan of his who is blinded by that same fandom, or you just don't care. Either way, I implore you to look it from the perspective of someone who has dealt with or could possibly deal with suicide at some point. What he did was terrible, and its kind of sad that it will barely be a speed bump in the overall trajectory of his career. I'm not wishing any harm or misfortune to come his way, but i hope he takes this time and the response he received as a time of reflection, and truly grows from this mistake.

The problem is Logan INCLUDED it, while giggling. Yeah, people will sometimes laugh out of nervousness with the uncomfortable nature of a situation. What people don’t do is make a video with a hype intro, have a good time in the first half, walk into a forest known for suicides, find a dead body, laugh, and PUBLISH that video online and monetize it. This weird defense of Logan that still exists for that video is unreal and disgusting. That dude was and still is a complete garbage human being.

I get the thought process, that it's the BIG THING that'll be"original". But even in the apology, he had to mention his view count, which also included a peace emoji (as a 'peace out') and a hashtag that promoted himself. Didn't hashtag a suicide prevention reference or anything. His apology was damage control, and nothing else.

    I wasn't offended by it. I was just annoyed with how incredibly tactless he was being. Every shot in that forrest had to be set up. He had to tell the person with the camera "Ok shit theres a dead guy over there. Film me walking up like I just saw it and let me react to it like it's a real reaction, and then we'll take the camera over and film it." So not only was the stuff he filmed tasteless, but the process behind planning it was even more so. But even if we were to focus on what was shot, there are so many kids now, in an already decently emotionally inept and tactless generation, that are going to watch this and think this is totally ok. I hate to sound like an old fart, but this is not how an adult should act, and the young people who have yet to reach that point in their lives now think that it is. So that's my biggest problem. Of course I expected this shit from him. He's annoyed the bejesus out of me ever since he became vine famous. But the fact that this is how he acts on such a large stage is what bothers me.

    I love how everyone is apparently missing joe's point he was trying to make about the arbitrariness of being respectful in this specific way for this specific type of death, for suicide victims as opposed to other types of deaths we hear about all the time, and just blasting him for not repeating the same drivel that everyone else is that if they found a body and were in a state of shock they'd be perfectly orderly and considerate about the situation. I think Logan fucked up big time in plenty of ways but his reaction to a shocking event with freaked out laughter is completely normal, do you think soldiers don't make morbid jokes and shit in response to atrocities they see and know are horrible?

    Also Logan Paul goes to Japan; into an infamous forrest for its many suicide victims; finds such suicide victim; laughs and makes jokes with his "friends" about it; posing with the dead body; let the video get edited; and then uploads this video on youtube, where first of all his very young fanbase can see it... Sorry but you don't need all the information to see that this is just horribly wrong on so many levels.

    I appreciate that Joe takes a moment and thinks on his own about any issue, before just going along with what the collective opinion is. It's always refreshing to see someone do that. HOWEVER, when 'exploring different perspectives' as he put it, it is also important to gather the essential facts first. Or else, you're not really exploring and discovering, but just walking around groping in the dark. Since he didn't know anything about what the actual problem was, this whole conversation came out a bit... silly. I'm not going to judge his views on this matter based on this clip, but I would be curious to see what he thinks when he DOES know exactly what the issue is.

If people still can’t forgive him somethings wrong here. When a person is going to commit suicide or people find a dead body they all record it on their iPhones. For example when xxxtentacion died there was video of him dead on his car which someone shot don’t see that person getting a lot of shit for it.. don’t get me wrong I do think what he did was wrong but the reaction and outrage from the community and media wasn’t justified

I can't tell if Joe is just too high here or if he really is just turning "going against the grain" into his formula now. It's not about seeing something you don't want to see - think about the dude's family who is probably going to see this. And then there's the issue of KZread letting the video get to trending even though it violated their terms while they shit on smaller channels for much less.

  • @Phished123

    @Phished123

    Not only that but it is partly about "Seeing something you dont want to see" because both the logans audiences are under 15s, they like watching prank videos, they like watching people get hit in the balls with a soccer ball, or hit with a tazer or stuff like that. They thought they were going to get more of that, now these children were exposed to something that no one at that age should have to be exposed to. Not only that, it was handled so poorly by Logan. Kids think its cool because it makes them feel "adult" that they saw something like that, but as someone who is much much older now, I personally realize that you grow up way too fast. Its something that is always told to kids, and they never believe it, you should cherish your youth, and this is just another thing forcing children to have to deal with "facts of life" that they shouldn't have to think about. Now, I dont believe in censorship, I know when i was 14-18 growing up in one of the firstt generations to have access to the internet at home, i did a lot of fucked up shit. I'm not trying to be a hypocrite, if a 15 year old wants to go look at shit like that, fine, if they think they can handle it fine. If their parents arent doing their due diligence fine. But that doesn't mean this kind of stuff, real life death and all the baggage that comes with it should be shoved into their sub box because some fuckface who should know better thought it was cool to video a dead body and post it to youtube.

    because the main issue here is about suicide and depression not about how a podcaster made an honest mistake.

    I KINDA get where he's coming from, in that it is fascinating how upset we can get over someone doing "nothing". But the thing is that what Logan Paul did wasn't "nothing", so his whole point goes flat as a result.

    Japan's attitude toward suicide is more complex than most. In Japan, there is the notion that suicide is a way to preserve a family's honor.

    Dang, I really lost respect for Joe watching this and I'm a long time listener. There is no justifying what Logan did. That man is a human, with family who didn't deserve to have his lifeless body mocked the way it was. Logan is heartless and deserves every ounce of backlash he's getting.

    What makes this outrageous is the fact that he did this in Japan. We cremate our dead in Japan. There are religious and cultural implications that make viewing someone's corpse extremely disrespectful. That's not even considering the difference between a natural death and one of suicide. Our children don't even behave this way in public in Japan. The issue isn't about the public's sensitivities. The issue is the lack of sensitivity in Logan Paul.
