    Maaaan, it's the typical story in a band that's blowing up that has an obvious superstar as the frontman, or in this case, somebody that thinks they have more talent than the frontman, gets talked into quitting the band for a solo career, but nothing ever happens. I can super relate to this cuz I've also fumbled the bag out of ego and inpatience. It haunts me till this day, even though I'm still grinding to try to catch one more break.

    Portnoy told on himself a little there, I had no idea they had anything to do with barstool so their stake in their success was negligible so in a way he WAS holding them hostage so to speak Its hard cause everyone feels like they "made" these girls &Sofia having a corporate suitcase pimp didn't help things But him saying he "owned" them rubbed me the wrong way, take the seed money (if any) out of their new contract &let me go I didn't develop or give them the sauce so u don't "own" jack

  • @geometerfpv2804

    @geometerfpv2804

    9 ай бұрын

    @@o-wolf"their stake in their success was negligible"....obviously the girls didn't believe that, or they wouldn't have signed a contract with Barstool for only 70k. You don't understand: they didn't know the pod would be big. It was a risky venture. After it becomes big, it's easy to look back and say "they shouldn't have taken that deal", but obviously nobody can see the future. That's like saying "once I know which stock performs the best, I should've bought that one". Duh, but we can't predict the stock market in advance, so investing is very risky. If the pod failed, which the vast majority of pods do, Dave would've lost the several hundred thousand dollars he promised them, which is really good money: enough to not have a day job, and really get a shot at making it big. They didn't have to sign the contract. It was a good deal AT THE TIME THEY SIGNED IT. Once they do get big, they are still obligated to the contract, you don't just get to have the best of both worlds: taking the risk on someone else's money, then ditching them when the venture works out. This is the whole reason we have contacts. This "holding hostage" thing is such a childish take. If they had left, Barstool would've sued them, and easily won, because that's the law. Don't sign a contract if you don't believe the terms are fair. Re: "they don't own jack", this is factually incorrect. You can buy and sell intellectual property, and the girls decided to sell their intellectual property to Barstool as a part of their deal. That was their decision, they are adults, they DEFINITELY knew that was happening, but for 70k a year for a few years, it seemed worth it. I hope you're a young teen...I have a bad feeling that a majority of Americans fundamentally don't understand how the economy works. Now, if someone offered me 70k a year to run a pod, I would consider that an awesome opportunity, wouldn't you? They weren't famous, that came after Barstool. Just a pair of girls with a good sense of humor. If people could just "take the seed money and leave", nobody would invest. Think about it: you're an investor. Best case scenario, your investments hits it big, then they just give the seed money back, and you break even. Worst case scenario, they fail, and your seed money is gone. This is a terrible no-win situation for the investor, and investment would never happen if that was legal. Use your brain!

Most sport contracts are, so you can’t really use that analogy another example football only a few players get a franchise contract, you do good you can renegotiate, to get a huge offer become a franchise player you do bad you are gone. Although i understand what you are saying. It’s more like music labels i think would be the best comparison.

    Ownership is always a tricky one. It can be done well but it's always going to create opposing arguments. Funding a podcast and putting them on your platform might make it big, and it might not. So it's hard to say what value is being provided. I've got faith in Portnoy I don't think he's a greedy guy but he's nowhere near as generous as Rogan so he's going to look bad in this situation, probably unfairly.

I told him I will never sign that deal and I quit the band. Record company realized I was the Sole songwriter and had control of all the masters from our demos and kicked him to the curb.
