The door was open, and I just wanted to wash my hands, the only sink was right behind the door. A cop showed up behind me and threatened to beat me up if I didnt leave. Been to a few resturants with shared restrooms. Never heard anyone complain about it. It is the same thing as an areoplane, only you share the space where you wash your hands. So nothign weird about it unless you are in the habit of sharing the toilet with others.

@@ravnor874 Out of curiosity, are you a man or woman? I don't know know any women championing shared restrooms; they'll virtue signal and be all chilled out and cautious in general conversation but when emotionally comfortable, it's a different story. They all say that ultimately if it were a 'yes or no' question to be answered on the spot then yeah, they'd like bathrooms to be a private sanctuary for women when it comes to intimate behaviour and privacy away from men. What saddens me is why people can't just speak honestly in all conversations about this; who are they scared of in these conversations I wonder? I'm coming from a place of respectful curiosity, always eager to learn and consider new information. :) My view is that restrooms ought to remain exactly as they are: I don't want men who have been drinking to be able to congregate in a restroom where a 12 year old girl has just entered with her first period blood running down her thigh. For businesses doing well or in other institutional buildings and government spaces who can afford the extra space, they could install really lovely 'mixed gender' restrooms so nobody felt uncomfortable or bullied over this. In time, once this experiment played out and really valuable data was collected by the academics as well as witnessed by us all (gathered as anecdotal evidence for ourselves to share) then we could see how humans REALLY feel, how it works with regards to human psychology and behavioural conditioning, rather than speculating. One of the key roadblocks in this intersectionist movement, the most intensely off-putting and self-defeating aspects of it, is rapid acceleration and compression: they want to force change soooooo quickly. The shrill demands and ugly moral smearing of people hesitant to comply at gunpoint with the demands of a small but ferocious group is disgusting. They need to slow down, behave with greater respect for people outside of their immediate identity group and its attendant allies and just cooperate and show people the respect they want extended towards themselves. This rapid acceleration towards achieving radical change in a very short amount of time is hideous and serves their cause poorly. Just my assessment.

There seems to be alot of "but what if", "but think about that" stuff regarding this until the point it is implemented and all of those concerns vanish. Jesus everyone in the comments freaking out about this is annoying. There are tons on countries where shared-sex restrooms are normal. Even when it's not it's only in America that it feels "weird" to have a single bathroom with a ton of stalls, a single large separated urinal. This works great at school for example, because if the bathroom is unisex, the teacher can actually be inside there while the kids are queueing up. Having a teacher present inside the bathroom of course cuts down on bullying, it should be obvious to anyone that has experience with it.

I'm sure you've all used bathrooms where the sink is outside in a separate room that is the shared entry way to both men and women's single use rooms? It's literally just like they. What’s most upsetting is that he says for any form of ‘progress’ there’s always collateral damage, but is it fair to say that when that collateral is a very large group for people vs a very small (but entitled) group of people. The attitude is ‘I don’t care if women are scared, and I don’t care if this puts them at greater risk’- perhaps easier to say if you’ve not had the same life experiences as real women.

To have all public toilets shared toilets would stop me using most in my area because they are usually somewhere quiet, on the beach, secluded & I would not want to be in a small confined space with any biological men. If they think you are going somewhere with both men and women they would be less likely to follow you in. I didn’t think it was an ‘argument’ as such, more of a discussion about men’s/women’s bathrooms and a questioning as to whether gendered segregation is going to be necessary for much longer. Eddie isn’t an athlete so it makes sense not to have much to say about transgendered athletes. Which I’m pretty sure Eddie says at the beginning of the conversation. Is it a ‘weak’ argument because you don’t agree or is it weak because you think the answer should have been more definitive, more decisive. Most public institutions, in Australia, have unisex bathrooms. All disabled bathrooms are unisex in public spaces. This is not a difficult issue. As women begin to see themselves as less delicate or vulnerable, the need for separate bathrooms diminishes. Straightforward and simple. Doesn’t require a sophisticated argument. Transgendered athletes competing in sports is way more complicated. I think people understand that.

@@joeyg448 he didn’t support his argument with any data. I genuinely wanted to understand the issue, but saying a school somewhere has seen a drop in bullying and that women queue for toliets is not an argument. So because men don’t queue as much let’s get rid gender toilets? I just didnt get any data or supporting arguments when you are referencing the Romans I think you are on a looser. I’m not an athlete but would have an opinion on the sports question which is fundamentally a bigger issue than toilets, in my opinion. That’s all. I actually think the toilet issue is a. Engineering one. You see buildings with men and women’s toilets the same size but men can use urinals so just give over more room to the ladies and reduce the queues. And I’d someone . i.e. less than 1% don’t want to use either they can just use the disabled toilets. But thanks for the detailed response. Interesting discussion

On second thoughts I think Izzard could’ve weighed in on a tricky subject that is kind of important to the transgendered community. But that said, Joe’s show is popular but his guests have decidedly varying degrees of expertise and research experience. Some of his guests claim expertise in areas they have merely marginally dipped their toe in (Ben Shapiro) and I often wonder why they were considered to be any kind of expert in that area. Maybe Izzard was being cautious. But I agree that supposed studies, references etc would be more value if they were referenced properly but I guess Joe is having a conversation rather than an intellectual debate so most guests would be unprepared.

Inebriatd Eugene Choi I know I’ll probably get hate from this comment section, but I seriously just don’t give a shit about Trans women competing in athletics with other women. I can even admit that it is not really fair, but how many people does that effect? A dozen, maybe a few dozen at the most, and it’s effects are them being upset for a day or two because they lost a competition? Meanwhile Trans people and the LGBT community as a whole faces more hate crimes and higher suicide rates than any other marginalized group. Meanwhile we have over 35,000 people a year dying because of a lack of healthcare. Meanwhile our government is trying to illegally overthrow another country, another on a long ass list of countries we’ve toppled and killed millions in the process. Meanwhile Student Debt has become the biggest debt crisis in this country over credit card and everything else, halting progress among the youth. Meanwhile our political and electoral system is as corrupt as ever and is resisting as hard as ever to give up their status quo in exchange for serving the people. There are so many issues that are infinitely more important than a kid winning a competition unfairly. And Joe Rogan endlessly harping on this issue in a reactionary manner exposes his lack of intellect. Anyone who has the intellectual capability to talk about these much more important and complex issues that effect millions of more lives than a Trans Athlete should talk about them instead. The people being outraged about Trans Athletes and Trans Bathrooms multiple days in and out show very little intelligence and are more of a useful idiot to help rile anger for anything but the real problems and the people who cause them.

I say this as a bisexual man who's very comfortable with his gender and "identity," and I wouldn't ever want to make a restroom open to both genders for that reason. This is for most part just made up as someone fearing it. It don't happen. Though I will agree that our culture here on body and such are more relaxed. It is common here that a father with a young daughter brings her with him to the mens communal shower before/after going to the pool for example (same with mother and son) - up to a certain age point of course.
