JOAN LESLIE: NORTHWEST STAMPEDE (1948)

Ойын-сауық

[PLEASE READ] Cute, capable, and crafty in Calgary, Canada-that's charismatic Joan Leslie as beautiful ranch foreman and rodeo competitor "Christine 'Honey' Johnson" in NORTHWEST STAMPEDE (1948). "And, truth to tell, she lights up well" in her first starring role in a color Western movie and only her second screen appearance after her principled revolt against and departure from Warner Bros.
This is the complete movie-full of charm, beauty, conflict, and spirited action in the great Canadian outdoors.
Strapping James Craig plays the restless hero; Jack Oakie and Chill Wills lend their inimitable talents to comedic, but caring supporting roles; an elusive white stallion ("Blizzard") and resourceful German Shepherd mix ("Flame the Wonder Dog") also feature prominently.
In my opinion, no other actress in Hollywood history could better project high self-esteem than Miss Joan Leslie. I submit as evidence her performance in this movie--just one eloquent example among many in her career. I upload this video in her honor.
Paul Sawtell-one of the great composers/music supervisors for many successful American television series of the 1950s and 1960s [e.g. HAWAIIAN EYE; VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA]-supplied the pretty and evocative original soundtrack for this film.
NOTE: I think it is fair to say NORTHWEST STAMPEDE is a "forgotten classic"-in no small part because its distribution has never been associated with a major film or television studio. I consider this KZread upload one way to redress this movie's unfortunate neglect, hoping that greater visibility online will ultimately lead to public and/or professional demand for its digital restoration (and subsequent distribution). If you are either contemplating or actively involved with such a project, please contact me.
IMPORTANT: This is a video sampler of goodwill and great admiration. If you are a professional and want credit I've neglected to give OR prefer that I delete this video, please let me know. Thank you.

Old-fashioned movie like I enjoyed as a kid. Gorgeous scenery and beautiful horses, lots of horses! A feast for the eyes. Everything decent with the romantic side of it. As an adult, though, it's hard seeing how rough/cruel it was for the rodeo animals and breaking horses.

Not a bad B-movie from 1948. Joan Leslie wasn't bad, although I think her best films were from earlier in the Forties like, Yankee Doodle Dandy, High Sierra, Sergeant York, and The Hard Way, when she was still in her teens (would never know she was under 20 y.o. back then). James Craig was good in this, as was Jack Oakie and Chill Wills. Thanks for uploading this.

It was nice reading the reviews previous of this one. Sounds like there's still people who like good clean movies that make you feel better after watching them. I don't think movie makers of this day and age could ever make a good movie like this. My motive for watching this movie was to see Joan Leslie. I loved her in SGT. York! I've always loved horses and German Shepherd Dogs and was blessed to own both. I purchased a quarter horse from Oklahoma that had never had anyone on his back before. It was a wonderful experience getting him to trust me. I had purchased videos, and books to learn how to do things right, but no book or video can cover everything. But after three months he bonded to me so strongly that I could just whistle, and he would come to me, and I'd saddle him up and we would go for an all-day ride with breaks in-between. The scene where the guy jumped on the horse's neck, was really retarded. And you could probably tell that they used a dummy in part of that scene. I'm going to shut up now, I'm normally pretty quiet, but owning Sundance (my horse that I broke) was a dream come true for me. Thank God for decent, people!

35:23 That's exactly what predators try to do. This is why horses work to keep their heads and necks Up, and away from predators. Notice that this risks breaking the horse's leg at 35:49. By behaving as a predator, Man has continually broken trust, and proven himself a Predator to be avoided and resisted by horses. If a person wants to be honorable and learn a better way, the way of trust earned and honored, watch the YT channel called Think Like A Horse. It's vital to understand horses, why they react as they do, how they think and how they respond. Handling horses through fear, pain, abuse, and force doesn't make a partnership, doesn't make a friendship, doesn't make trust, but causes trauma, causes problems, causes distrust, and causes injuries. There's no reason for it, when trust brings a better way. Watch a mustang be ridden with only a halter and rein, never a bit, with peace and trust. The channel is called Think Like A Horse.

When I was a kid, and collecting 16mm prints to show in my basement screening room, this was one of the first ones I ever got my hands on. It's a guilty pleasure favorite movie for me. Joan Leslie is one of the most under-appreciated actresses that ever worked in Hollywood. She was just perfect every time. There's a credit on this copy that it's a British Radiantcolor Print. I know the film was shot in two color Cinecolor, and I'm wonder what kind of print this is, because the blues in it are true blue, especially in the sky, which are never a good blue in Cinecolor, always kind of pastel. Does anyone know what a British Randiantcolor Print is?

It's filmed in a beautiful place and about the same as far as westerns go at this time but I still love watching them. I just get annoyed at how stupid they make the women look. Oh i broke a nail. , Really? She runs the ranch and is worried about breaking a nail? He goes to bed and lets the whole herd of horses get run off by a stallion and she says nothing about it to him? Oh, that's right, he saved her from getting run over by the stampeding herd of horses because that's what women do they just stand there and play dumb. But, then she turns around and shows him up and almost beats him in the rodeo which was quite surprising and makes a dumb ass out of him chasing the stallion at the end when he loses his pack so this one actually makes both of them look stupid so not as bad as most of them in that respect. lol.
