Ignore the negative comments. This was probably never intended to be an Oscar contender so critics lighten up ! It's got action, romance, adventure, drama and excellent cast. John Payne and Donna Reed are great together. Just good entertainment and worth the watch. You'll enjoy it !

The Reality today as per the AI technology (2024) : The real captain of the Barbarossa ship was the legendary Ottoman corsair, Hayreddin Barbarossa. Born Khizr or Khidr in 1478 on the island of Lesbos, he later became known as Barbarossa, meaning "Redbeard" in Italian, due to his red beard and the color of his hair. He and his brothers operated as corsairs in the Mediterranean, preying on European ships and territories. Barbarossa eventually became the Grand Admiral of the Ottoman Navy and played a significant role in the Ottoman Empire's naval campaigns. He died in 1546. His exploits earned him a place in history as one of the most famous and feared corsairs of the Mediterranean.

No one cares !!! Barbarossa NEVER hanged out with or befriended any pale skinned non-muslims. In fact he made his fortune by raiding and killing Christians. The white , anglo saxon people who produced this movie did not have such heroes in their history --so they stole a character from another culture . You need to learn how things really work in the west , ....pal.

Adding color helps old movies to shine, especially if they were filmed with Cinemascope technology, the new digital high resolution cameras sometimes take away the old charm, especially when I try to watch modern Westerns, I cringe after 3,5 min max I am not afraid or shy to admit that I still enjoy watching B&W movies rather than the latest Hollywood blockbusters made for high definition surround sound systems where actors are chosen based on model - like good looks. If you compare old school tough guys Marvin - Palance - Bronson - Lancaster to the new generation, all I am thinking is how Johnny Depp probably needs a fresh coat of nail polish, and Jude Law and Orlando Bloom need to eat a sandwich.

According to Reuters, Spain did indeed abolish slavery in 1811. Many European nations did not effectively abolish slavery until later in the 19th century. Not sure who was putting so much pressure in Spain to abolish slavery when all the major European powers as well as all the Muslim countries were still actively engaged in it at that time.
