Did anyone notice the ship? The Italian "Amerigo Vespucci" - there could not be any better setting, maybe, than the "most beautiful ship of the world". Thanks for the video!

Mariella Lotti is a hidden gem. Pity that this seems to be her only international movie...

this was awesome! i particularly liked the camerawork and stunts, as well as the lead actor’s performance making a complex character seem believable

Very entertaining movie - I really liked the pirate/dany boy actor, and the triumph in the end - thank you for the fun movie!

Thanks for sharing this movie! It did have similarities to the Zorro stories, or the Scarlet Pimpernel, etc., but I really like those sorts of stories, so that was a good thing! I don't know if I've seen the leading actor before, or most of them for that matter, but I thought he did a great job with playing both roles. Sometimes they are too much the daring rogue even when they ought to be more foppish, or they are bad at changing their mannerisms enough between roles, but this was done well. And the ship, the swordfights, the scrambling about on rooftops, the fight scenes and extras and everything was adventurous and exciting. It was also nice to see the settings; they didn't feel like sound stages or the same canyons of California. Excellent cinematography, music, costumes too. I really enjoyed this movie.

This was fantastic, a great swashbucker! Interesting characters and a genuinely thrilling climax! Thank you!

I don't know what to say . . everything was perfect in this entertaing movie! Oh, yes, thoroughly enjoyed it! THANK YOU!

The scene with Amalfi and the queen was a masterpiece in stage directing and camera work - panning to the mirror and back, all one take - no cuts. Hitchcock would have been inspired!

Louis Hayward as Captain Sirocco if I'm not mistaken. Filmed in 1949 in italy with a score by Nino Rota.

These were the days when things were simpler.

Great film score and soundtrack and eversince I was a little girl and saw Louis Hayward in The Man In The Iron Mask I will watch any Louis Hayward film.

Pretty good movie of this era, origin and genre, hahaha. The only real failing occured at 1:13:20. In real life Amalfi/Scirocco would have taken the opportunity to kill Holstein right then and there. Without Holstein to give the orders his police would have been occupied with squabbling amongst themselves and the revolution would have been much less bloody. Other than that it was pretty good, hahaha.

@lawrencejlittle This was a good movie. I don't mind a recycled plot when it is done well. Scarlet Pimpernel was a play in 1905, adapted to a movie in 1934. it definitely came first. The plot was an English Nobel who used disguises to rescue French aristocrats from the guillotine, while pretending to be a useless fop at court. Little tweaking her and there, but same basis.

05:57 On no sailing ship in the whole wide world the captain will allow any fireworks in the rig while sails are set. He won't accept it a second and he'll be alarmed. Instead the scenes shown at this stage of the movie he will immediately stop the artist's show. 😂 On every ship special programs, which will change the decks watch routine, must be reported and allowed by the captain. So it is not authentic that the captain doesn't know what's going on at 03:09. I hate to see movies which have nothing in common with the seamanship which in reality had often been very strictly and mostly under direct orders.

I thought the same thing too. Allowing tricks at sea would be impossible. Also, sailors are experts at moving about the rigging and outsiders would be confused. The rigging of boats at that time were very complex!
