Welcome to the Letterman KZread Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.

Notice the genuine smiles of everyone involved. Carter was thrilled to see Dave who was also clearly thrilled to see the former President.
As President Carter prepares for his final journey, this just makes me smile 😊
He has lived the Gospel more than any politician in my lifetime. Well done faithful servant President Carter!!

@@owlperchedsilo3745 I remember something about Iran holding hostages and releasing them shortly after a republican was elected.... i remember an energy crisis manufactured by a middle eastern country.... i remember Carter creating the situation in Afghanistan that led to the fall of a dreaded enemy (now an admired power, according to repubs) that Reagan took credit for. I remember a lot of things. Because I was around in '77 through '81. huh.

One of the truly greatest men to have lived, his dedication to others was absolutely amazing.
The first president I ever voted for. Proud to say that to this very day. I cried when I heard he was going into home hospice. May his last days and his transition be full of joy and peace. 🙏🏻♥️

He told the truth and kept the peace. He cared for people all over the world. Thank you for all that you have done for the betterment of humanity President Carter! ❤
I missed this moment back in '85 -- it is certainly poignant to see now. Thanks for posting.

You are correct sir - after President Carter it became who had the best sound bite didn’t matter if that person had anything between there ears - Reagan, Trump and W - ( I omit Clinton and Bush Sr as I think they were very smart but they had the better zingers) - Biden was the lesser of two evils

…being President is not much, being on the David Letterman show is a lot. 😂❤😂❤😂 I loved President Carter as a child and love him even more now. A genuinely humble, honest, and truly decent man. May your last days here be peaceful President Carter…
Dave keeping the book is hysterical.
Grace all around.
This was nice to see. Never knew Amy Carter was on Dave's show. Jimmy was a sit-down guest on Dave's show in later years.
lol I love that Jimmy mentioned the black dress years later.
This is the magic that made Dave famous! 👍 Godspeed to Mr. Carter 🙏✝️
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting President Carter at a book signing. Sweet, soft-spoken and very kind, with a ready smile, I felt wonderful after our brief but memorable encounter. Bless his heart, and Happy 99th birthday, sir! ❤🇺🇲🙏

Well, December 2023 and this revisits the feel good times David Letterman brought to us too many years ago has me smiling thru held back tears. Maybe not so much melancholy for wonderful Mr. Letterman as for Jimmy Carter, whose life work surely overcame the issues that visited his term in the White House. Thanks for this upload.

President Carter reminds me of a mix between Don Knotts and Mister Rogers. Godspeed Jimmy
the greatest post president of all time!
Mr. President has a great smile. Poor Al...
I’d love to tell you guys of the three-day long campaign I had when I was 14, to try to talk with Dave on air during filming in order to get an invite to the show as a guest as the 14-year-old impressionist. I was really good at voice impressions and I called NBC as Jimmy Carter. The next to last call I made, I actually spoke with Hal Gurnee in the booth during the show’s taping! My mom and her best friend, Lil, were stunned I got that far. There’s more to the story, but that’s for Dave & Barbara to hear. Anyway… thank you for posting this video.
So sorry he is going this way, it is just a horrible way to go, usually on all kinds of medicines to relieve the pain until you finally let go.. Hail to the Chief!! Mr. President, great interview from the hallway!

Notice something? When Dave asked the audience if they voted for Carter, there were both cheers and boos. Now when Colbert even mentions the word “Republican” or “Conservative”, you get unified boos. Crazy how politicised late night talk shows have gotten.
