I don’t agree with everything Jim has to say and sometimes think he overthinks certain things or is unfair (or if it’s to do with womens wrestling I usually tune out because he has some archaic thinking there). However, one area where I have to throw up my hands and agree with is to do with the Young Bucks and Omega and their positions in the company. Too many things have happened to point to them politicking and trying to pull strings for them and their friends. Not to mention how painfully obvious it is that 99% of the “leaks” to Meltzer and the like have been from their camp. While sometimes Jim can go too hard, I can’t defend them anymore. They are in positions they should not have, not just because of the inappropriateness of being on air talent and behind the scenes decision makers, but their inexperience too. The stuff with Punk proved that. They reacted like wrestlers would and stormed into the locker room looking for a fight, and not executives who would have talked to the boss first and figured out a way from there since they would realize that he’s their top star and wouldn’t be so eager to see him go, much less facilitate it by their behind the scenes crap.

I can't really elaborate or use any statistics to really back up what I'm saying--nor do I really need any. I haven't watched WWE in years, and I don't know if things are supposed to be rosier in Stamford because Vince finally got put out to pasture, but I'm pretty certain that they don't draw the numbers or ratings that they did during the attitude era or even when they went mainstream in the 80s & Hukamania was running wild. Of course they still make money, some people will watch anything. Especially if there is a need for it. Think of the wrestling business as if it were building a house. Houses have things that are structural (framing, electrical, plumbing, etc) and things that are aesthetic (exterior color, paint color, style of lights, etc). Wrestling is the same way. You’ve got structural things that evolve very slowly over time (booking, match agenting/layout, tv/event layouts, talent relations, etc) and aesthetics that are more trend based (design of gear, specific gimmicks, language used by announcers, music, etc). Jim Cornette is a guy you want in charge of structural things, not aesthetics. In the structural areas, he’s brilliant, but he needs someone to put a modern coat of paint on those structural elements.

It isn't just "indy, outlaw wrestling," it's that with even worse sports entertainment than WWE. I guarantee 90% of the people in WWE, even when they're misguided sports entertainers, if Stone Cold or The Rock or Bret Hart or Trish Stratus or Lita any other actual wrestling legend from the last 25 years walked into the dressing room, they'd be completely respectful and try to pick their brain as much as possible so they can get better at what they're doing. Vince, for all his faults, wouldn't allow it any other way and I know Paul Levesque wouldn't either, and I'm not a fan of either of those guys, but I'll give them that. I just watched an interview with Dax Harwood from FTR and he said there were guys who were thrilled that CM Punk was coming to AEW, but obviously, there were people, particularly in positions of influence in the locker room and in the company, who didn't like it at all. CM Punk isn't Stone Cold because no one is, but in terms of eras, Punk is the late 2000s/early 2010s and 2022 version of Stone Cold. He's one of if not the top draw in wrestling. If I'm not that, I'd be the first guy knocking on his dressing room door looking for some advice on my upcoming match and I'd probably want the guy I was wrestling to come with me so we could both put on a great match. But I guess when you work for a billionaire who you think you have over a barrel, you don't have to learn anything. Adam Page, Kenny Omega and those 2 other idiots wouldn't last 5 minutes in WWE. I'm sure when there's a new guy, most of the wrestlers check out their twitter feed or look into them before they arrive and if they've seen the garbage those clowns have been up to, I don't think it would work very well. So those EVPs and their friends know that it's AEW or bust if they want to make a lot of money, so they basically have to drag that company down with them.

Jim Cornette is a freelance heel. You shouldn't expect honest commentary in wrestling, and especially from someone who complains about wrestling for a living. Cornette's main premise is the wrestling should be aimed at adults who think wrestling is real, basically advise that was obsolete in the 1980's, if not the the 1950's. In other words, he advocates for business strategies that were obsolete by the early 80's at the latest. If you listen to his radio show, you'd think he retired 40 years ago. In fact, he just barely caught the territory era.

Hire legit talent? Who is it then Jim? Cause if you're a top guy in WWE and you leave then you'll trash them for leaving the big company for the small company. What about FTR? MJF? Moxley? Jericho? Punk? Keith Lee? Lethal? Joe? Omega? Hangman? Danielson? Claudio? I mean who do you want them to sign? I'd love Rollins or Styles or a few others but they'd be dumb to leave in the position they're in. I don't like Jim's opinion on a lot of stuff cause it's based on feelings not facts.

He praised FTR & MJF. And Punk. Pretty sure he likes Daniel Bryan Danielson too. He doesn't like Mox, Omega, or Hangnail. Absolutely right. There are times when I fully disagree with Jim. For instance, on Cena. When Jim Had him as the Prototype or whatever it was in OVW. That was probably as good as he was going to get. Cena went to WWE and became this fake 'rapper dude" gimmick that we can all see through. Rock sure broke that. He started to not land his punches closer to the other wrestler to look good and he started to wear Jorts to the ring instead of ring gear and he started to not take flat back bumps. He would spin on his ass. Trash! Anyway, Jim is right though more than he is not. Out of a 100 Jim can take above 95 percent of it. It's that 1 or 2 percent Jim can't quite get. Either for reasons of his insanity or for unreasons of his, twisted ideology and politics. I am a Jim Cornette fan. One we are southerners and two I love Pro Wrestling very much.
