Saw Johnny and Jimmy in 74 at Boston garden against Tony garea and Dean Ho. They were Larger than Life and they could really bring the heat. I was just a 10 year old kid and I will never forget it. Rest in peace

I remember the Valiant Brothers in Georgia in the 70s. Johnny was so good on the microphone. He once said that Ken Mantell had been a lifeguard at a car wash. He was so funny.

I remember reading in the Apter mags from early 74 that The Valiants beat Bruno and Bruiser by a countout and they were awarded the belts. Interesting way to drop the belts. In regards to "Fridays", "The Golden Boys" were Larry David and Mark Blankfield.

Actually saw him work at the old Boston Garden when he was still John L. Sullivan. Was promoted as a Bruno protege so would on occasion be rescued by Bruno from the current top monster heel.

spectrumlocalb191: I almost missed this. Somebody actually tried to put the Destruction Crew (Mean Mike Enos and Wayne “The Train” Bloom) in the same category as the Valiant Brothers??? Wow 😯, he must have never seen the Valiants in the 70s. They were headliners everywhere they wrestled and mainstays of the old WWWF. They are in the WWE Hall of Fame because they were true originals. The Destruction Crew, a remnant of the dying days of the old AWA, never managed to generate much heat or excitement as the Beverly Brothers in the WWE. They were mid-card enhancement talent during most of their short run.

Unfortunately I never met nor do I have any memories of Johnny Valiant. I remember handsome Jimmy Valiant from his USWA days, and I had the pleasure of meeting Jamming Jake when I worked at a store where he would sign autographs at. He was there at least 3 times, and every single time I set up his booth and would talk to him. If his brother was even as half as nice as he was, then he was a good man. I feel so sorry for his family and friends. In my humble opinion, I believe that the Valiant family should be recognized by the WWE. Yes, they may not have done a lot for the WWE when they were there, but it is what they all did for the professional wrestling business as a whole.

I understand kayfabe. I know they are not really brothers. They knew each other, and let them be billed as brothers. When that happens and you met one of them and thought they are a good person, chances are the other ones are also good people.

The WWA Title match between Bruiser & Bruno and the Valiant Brothers was a 2 out of 3 falls title match. Bruno and Bruiser each lost a fall. And by "lost" I mean there was a screwjob finish where they were not cleanly pinned. The whole situation with the tag titles was screwy at the time though. 8/24/73 The tag titles were "held up" after a match between Bruiser and Bruno & Ladd and the Baron (champions). i.e. nobody lost. 9/22/73 Bruiser beats Ladd in a solo cage match for the WWA tag titles. 1/5/74 Valiant Brothers get the win over Bruiser and Bruno in a 2 out of 3 falls match. (They win both falls by screwy finishes not involving a pin) They win the titles. 1/11/74 Vailent Brothers beat Bruiser & Luis Martinez at Detroit to win the WWA Tag title (again). For this match, they pretended the Bruno/Bruiser match had never happened.

Sorry Corny, but your impersonation sounds more like old Fatty Rhodes than the Variants. They also worked the AWA and did some hilarious promos with Mean Gene. But I don't think old Verne really knew how to use them. Verne frequently made the mistake of thinking that what he liked was what the marks would like.
