@@Charsi_Escobar Inoki believed in Shoot Style as a legit fighting style so he taught alot of people in the dojo that style and then put them up against legit MMA fighters because he wanted to prove his way of fighting could work. But it didn't turn out that way as alot of people got wrecked people like Kojima, Nagata, Nakamura (who actually succeeded somewhat), Tenzan. They got obliterated by the legit opposition which eventually lead to Bob Sapp winning the IWGP heavyweight belt.

No wonder Shibata left and Tanahashi hates Inoki. Inoki’s MMA obsession nearly killed New Japan. Gedo had to Americanize New Japan because the promotion was at its lowest in 04-09. It was near death until Tanahashi became the main event star and then Okada took over.

Don't look down on Japanese Independant Wrestling ! It has also been the primary place for Shoot-Style Wrestling for a decade now Hard Hit, Heat Up, and now the bigger GLEAT promotion (among others less known). While the biggest Promotions are doing the same Strong Style matches again and again, there's genuine unique technicians/shooters in the indies like Yu Iizuka, Takatoshi Matsumoto, Tetsuya Izuchi...

There was a guy on the undercard named "Crusher Takahashi" and he had a Dusty Rhodes/Barry Whindham ring-attire and a moveset very similar to the Funks brothers I think he hasn't wrestled much in the 2000s but he had a couple of single matches in 2017. Onita is on a different planet than somebody like Nic Gage. Onita was legitimately trained to be a wrestler and was a great worker with the traditional style of wrestling. He just suffered a horrific injury and had nowhere else to go, so he had to come up with these great ideas to get over. But in the end, he used a lot of classic pro wrestling concepts to get himself over. He was a sympathetic and likeable babyface that is one of the best sellers of all time. That will always equate to big money. He understood the spectacle that pro wrestling could be and how that environment is unique and draws fans to see. And he continuously came up with ideas that somehow topped previous ideas. I think the puroresu talent pool has declined over the past 20 years. I remember all of these fans praising KENTA as the greatest thing ever and then watching him wrestle against Misawa who was way past his prime and Misawa basically spell it out for him. It's really about being able to do flips, kicks and finishers at any expense, even with regards to the optics and believability.

To be fair, the whole thing with new/starting NJPW guys being kinda samey is by design. Guys in their developmental Young Lions program are taught the basic wrestling stuff, and they all have pretty uniform look of those black shorts. As they learn and develop, they start diversifying their looks and styles more. To name few guys, Tanahashi, Okada and Naito all came from the program, and they are all very different from each other these days and are easily recognizable. I'm not saying that the idea of doing this is great or perfect, but there is logic to it all.

I love pro wrestling. Technical wrestling at that. Something about grounding an opponent with take downs and headlocks and yet of course a fair amount of top rope moves or drop kicks is what I enjoy the most in the sport. It takes time and doesn’t move automatically to just fly all over the place and or do very horrific matches that lead to well the original sheik almost dying in a literal blaze of fire. I don’t know what to say about onita. Other than I certainly respect how he managed to make a lot of success within the creation of fmw. But it certainly went too far despite onita respecting anoki and giant baba. But I certainly can’t understand doing these matches that can especially kill someone. But I don’t understand why would ecw do half of what they did in order to shock. With one of the worst ecw matches to me was the tai pei death match. Would love to hear your guys thoughts as always.

I remember watching clips of Pro Wrestling Noah, Dragon gate (not the Dragongate USA: Gabe Sapolsky's version) and some FMW (ECW: Mike Awesome, Terry Funk, Cactus Jack/Mick Foley) material on KZread. I still have to find out if there are great Joshi federations (that still exist in 2022). I am so used to seeing: Stan "The Lariat" Hansen, (Big Van) Vader, and "Dr. Death" Steve Williams. "A sewage-infested (polluted) water, with open wounds (sounds like Fukushima disaster zone)." (Eating (hepatitis C) Crap; stuff that you could contract, with Abdullah (the Butcher)'s dreaded Fork, his (famous but) trusty weapon of choice (from his old "House of Ribs & Chinese Food" (Atlanta, Georgia-based) restaurant). Abby, also a Canadian like Hannibal, his main specialty were Death/Garbage (Pail Kids-style of)/(ECW) hardcore matches; the "Madman from the Sudan." (ECW wrestlers liked to use Cheese Graters a lot: see the Dudley Boyz, Tommy Dreamer (Prosthetic Legs: Diesel (aka Kevin Nash) used Mad Dog Vachon's fake leg, against Shawn Michaels, in the WWE/WWF). New Jack had used Everything that he could find.) See the Hannibal TV (Devon Nicholson) vs Abby in (Alberta,) Canada, on May 2, 2007) - Corny. Abdullah matches as films and other wrestling companies: instead of inspiring (Akira) Kurosawa symphonies and the old Chikara (the (Marvel / DC Comics) Cosplay / Comic Con league, by Mike Quakenbush), it would be more of a Takeshi Miike, Quentin Tarantino, Roger Corman (producer/director) "Grindhouse"/B-movie/exploitation, Backyard Wrestling (GCW : Game Changer Wrestling = Nick Gage (a former New Jersey-based (Domino's Pizza (cutter) bank robber); XPW: Rob Black) bloodbath.

The FMW "Dark Side of The Ring" is an episode I really enjoyed because it wasn't a hit piece, the people that were actually involved in what happened, the key people, the ones who are still alive, were interviewed. I am noticing a pattern in Japanese Pro Wrestling, two to be frank one is, A) When a Veteran Promoter hands the keys to the company to people who have no idea what they are doing, the industry as a whole suffers, same thing that occurred to All Japan and New Japan occurred to FMW first. B) Japanese Promotions tend to put all their Eggs in One Basket in terms of their Ace and they rarely have a solid back up plan. What happened with Hayabusa when his career ended is eerily similar to when Misawa died in 2009. FMW never recovered after Hayabusa died and Pro Wrestling NOAH never was the same after Misawa died. In truth, there would be no XPW, CZW, Hustle, DDT, Pro Wrestling Promotions without FMW first, but it also shows the lesson that no one will ever learn... If one bases their entire company around Thumbtacks, Flaming Tables, and Barbed Wire. One is going to be lucky if they have a Five Year Run of Good Business. However, no cares about that fact still to this day. Pathetic really.

It's a shame Cornette got poisoned against NJPW because of the Elite connection. Even without that I don't think that he would be into it or follow it because his love is for American wrestling. Even when he talks about the golden days of Japanese wrestling he contextualizes it, as here, with how they had all the greatest American stars working there in a pure, perfect environment. But it would have been nice if he'd been able to stay open minded to it at least so he could occasionally check out someone like Zack Zabre Jr or watch a great Okada vs Suzuki match. I do agree with him about the Americanization of Japanese wrestling overall and it's a shame. But even so they still do all of that shit relatively sparingly, compared to American promotions. It's not constant 'afterbirths', as Jim calls them, and run ins and backstage brawls and all of that shit where they talk and act as if there's not a camera pointed at them. That is the stuff that made American wrestling unwatchable to me. It's not what it was (and they had a pretty rough lockdown period) but current New Japan is sill the best wrestling promotion.
