Jhanas and "Focus on Rest" ~ Shinzen Young

Shinzen responds to the question, "How does your 'Rest States' relate to the classical jhanas?" He goes on to say that he likes people to work with tangible sensory experiences, and gives six restful states in the objective and subjective world - relax, light, silence, peace, blank and quiet.

I really love the time I am living in -- high quality information from experienced teachers in form of video accessible to everyone. Thank you so much for this! I am going to try this out.

I never made the connection between Focus on Rest and the Samadhi (Yogic term for absorption) states. Unified Mindfulness is awesome powerful.

I’m having trouble with the hear rest. By defocusing the ears do we open up the ears the same way we defocus the eyes? Or do we listen to the absence of sound, because it is not always possible to get this state of no sound.

@@SherKhan0122 hate to be the guy but technically there is positive and negative feedback. Positive feedback often leads to resonance catastrophe :) Ironically for any amplifier to work properly you need some negative feedback... damping..
