Pro tip; guide dog training organization "rejects" are amazing pets. My friend fosters the candidates during their initial training. The standards to even begin the evaluation/training process are so high that any dog in it is sure to be a great dog for the average person looking for a family pet. Those organizations typically will not source the dogs from shady breeders either, according to my friend at least.

I feel his pain… we once had a border collie puppy who (luckily in a car and deer free location), took off running and refused to come back. She ran for almost five miles with me in hot pursuit, insulting me by lying down and waiting at the tops of steep hills before taking off again as I reached the top. After arriving at a sandy beach, she decided to take a dip in the sea and it was then that I caught her. We got the bus back… from what should have been a ten minute walk around the local park but took almost three hours. Bless 😂

Yes, in fact my dog chased deer as well. No video, but I was doing the same thing, screaming "Giles!" in higher and higher octaves the longer he didn't return. I think I lost 10 years off my life that day.

My brother has a dog named Bort and whenever he's out walking him he'll say the whole "come along Bort!" and people laugh and nod or others say "are you talking to me?" LOL

I think most dog owners can say they've been there, and have great sympathy for the man running and yelling trying to catch his dog Fenton. My own dog always translated the word "stop" as meaning run away faster.

I remember 20 years ago I was on a big open sandy beach near Southport with my 2 collie crosses. Mind winter, walking into a strong wind, all going well until 2 race horses from Aintree come from behind me and both dogs take off after them. I must have “ran” 5 miles that morning, know how this poor man feels. I suppose, really, all dogs should always be on a lead unless in a fenced area reserved for their exercise. That was the first and only time I’ve had dogs out of my control.

It's been 7 years now and I still laugh out lout to this. I wonder if Fenton is still with us..

I’ve been told that this video is years old, I have no idea how I’ve missed it as a 45 year old man but I can honestly say with a strong stomach and bladder this is the closest I’ve ever been to wetting myself, the panic in the owners voice is just hilarious and something I can completely understand because I have a golden retriever as a dog and they’re known for their stubbornness, it’s just so so funny. Brilliant.

The panic is because Richmond is one of the royal parks , and a wildlife reserve so dogs are supposed to be on the leash , Fenton could have landed him knee deep in the doo-doo : "Please note it is an offence for a dog to chase deer in Richmond Park, and this could result in the owner's prosecution."

😂😂😂 Just found this video in 2023 from Mashable’s “18 classic viral videos that will always be hilarious” and I haven’t stopped laughing for 48 hours. I now account for at least 2,000 views. I will be revisiting this daily. My mom asked if he’s screaming, “Satan!” No, Mom. “FENTON!!!!!!” Fenton Forever. ❤

This lives rent free in my head for all time😂😊

Feb 2024. “FENTON!!”

I always return here, it's the first Fenton call from the owner that gets me 😂 you know when the second one is called the dog is now beyond control and has taken off in a full sprint towards the deer to cause maximum carnage.

The sheer joy of sharing in Fenton's 'Best Day Ever'.

The cameraman not only has perfect timing panning over to the deer, but incredible poise, as I would have been cracking up much earlier than he started to at the very end

A few years ago I actually accidentally met Fenton and his owner. I was with my mum and we where lining up to enter Richmond Park via Bog Gate, there was a bigger queue the usual because everyone was going to see the cycling race and big gate is rather small and only a certain amount of people can go through at one time. My mum, being the extrovert she is, was talking to the people in the line ahead of us and they introduced us to their dog. They said the name ‘Fenton’ and my mum and I paused but didn’t say anything and carried on the conversation. Once we got through the gate and walked in the other direction, we both looked at each other and went ‘it’s the dog isn’t it’ ‘yeah it is’.

I remember listening to an episode of the radio program "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" and in one of the games, Marcus Brigstocke yelled "Fenton! Fenton! Oh, Jesus Christ, Fenton!" and I had no idea what it was referring to. I'm so happy to find this video as I now understand the reference and can appreciate it for its hilarity.

Before knowing the dog was named Fenton, I swear I heard him calling, "Satan!! Sataaaaan!!" Which made this clip ever more hilarious!

I imagine a single dog chasing 50 deer all at once would feel pretty proud of himself. Enough to forget all about its human master's commands for a few minutes.

we have a springer spaniel 'WInston' and when I shout his name as he chases after folks on mountain bikes it's slightly reminiscent of this! ' Winstooooon! Oh, Jesus Christ !!!!'🤣

This is priceless. I have done a lot of house/ pet sitting, and a number of years back I did 4 dogs thinking it would be great. Turns out 2plus is a pack. It was out in a very rural area, next to big farms and we went walking next to a paddock of cattle. They took off and downed a steer, well grown , but not full. They new what they were doing. Straight into formation. I was running after them and somehow was able to shoo them off, and the animal, I thought was done for, I rolled over with the help of the hill it had tripped on. The dogs liked me but were not well trained, but I did have a leash for the lead dog and I dragged them home. I was as traumatised as the steer I think, and went back and walked for a few hours right around all the paddocks and fences and checked on the cattle and got really good barings. This was 2 days in. At 4 days, I was walking them 2 at a time. The pack leader found something to eat. It was odd. The following morning the dog went through the most excruciating death by poisoning. Turns out the neighbouring property had placed a wild dog bate, and we had been going onto private land, not the state nature area the owner had said was there. She had been riding her horse on it for 3 years. It was horrible. Really horrible death. I would not wish this death on anyone or thing. (1080 wild dog bait) I met the Farmer who layed the bait a few days later who had found out about the death. They apparently lose a number of younger cattle to wild dogs. The dogs don't kill the animal, just take them down, then they faint as most ' flight ' animals do, and the dogs chew the chest or hind off. The cow wakes up and keeps going, but must be killed as they die slowly of infection. I have little doubt these very sweet family dogs were doing a lot of the attacking. They were too much trouble together. I found out so many other equally problematic things when the Owners returned, who were really lovely, and horrified too by what had happened. The owners were seemingly as unaware as I was of how dangerous a pack of dogs could be. Almost all dogs out by themselves off leash must not be allowed. They are a preditor animal.
