ThePrototype Actually, they were instructed to miss. They weren't trying to kill Luke and Leia. Anyone who knows anything about star wars knows this. In fact, in other scenes in the classic star wars movies they have better accuracy then the average military soldier. The joke that they always miss is not only unfunny and overused, but it's also false.

Translating all of that 100% literally would have taken up 3 times as much time on a tight awards show schedule, so Thanks works just fine for English speaking fans.

That usually means that if you fight, whether in self defense or defense of another, you're punished exactly the same as the bully/bullies who attacked. My high school, Creekside High, instituted that policy way back in 2002. It caused me to have to withdraw myself from school 5 months before my 17th birthday to avoid having an expulsion on my record due to being suspended many times for DEFENDING myself and once for defending some small freshman. I just waited until i was 20 then went the GED and military route. The policy of Creekside High School was this, paraphrasing from memory here since it's been almost 20 years. "Violence is NEVER the right thing to do." "If you are bullied or attacked, DO NOT respond with VIOLENCE! This is UNACCEPTABLE behavior and only promotes MORE violence. Furthermore, ANY student who physically contacts another in a physical and violent manner, will be punished severely and swiftly. Without exception!" "If you are threatened or physically assaulted, first try to escape the situation by retreating to a safe area, by evading your attackers or by finding a person of authority while calling loudly for help." "If escape or evasion is not possible, fall to the ground and onto your side, assume a protective fetal position. Curl your body into a ball, as small as possible, by drawing your knees towards your chest and using your arms to cover your head and face, this will help protect you from serious injury." They actually had a little 3 or 4 part diagram here showing you how to assume this position. Highlighting the areas it protected the most. "Yell loudly for help, and yell at your attackers to stop, while maintaining this position until help arrives or your attackers leave." While I'm sure thats not 100% correct to the word, its still pretty accurate. Hell it should be, i had to read it aloud and had it quoted to me often enough during my 10th and 11th years. Some schools and school systems seem to have NO concept of reality.
