Our very first Christmas without our beloved Jessye. I cannot believe she has left us. How blessed we are to have her singing always.

I bet she is one to heaven's precious singers, come down to give us a hint of just how beautiful heaven really sounds.

This is my favorite verse of this great and moving carol and the great Jessie Norman takes it to the zenith of the spirit of Christmas. I was a young boy when Jesus revealed to me because the joy of Christmas had left my heart; “son this is NOT it.” As painful an experience it was for me, chiefly because it was totally internalized, the experience is now a wellspring of eternal joy and grace. Oh, a million times moreso. I was privileged by the Lord to hear once, just a sentence, a few words spoken - there were two speakers, men, what they were saying isn't important and I don't think it was anything stupendous - that was the point: just a few words I heard, couldn't actually make out any words, but the sound of just a few SPOKEN words, just a "what do you think of that?" maybe said was more beautiful than all the music I've ever heard (and believe me, I've heard, just the sound and cadence of a few words spoke in heaven put Robert Merrill and Leonard Warren and de Luca in the land of forgetting ... it made the most beautiful singing I've ever heard here seems like scratching. I relate this only to give a vague impression of what awaits - "it has not entered in the heart and mind of man the the things that God has prepared for them that love Him." Like the old song says, "Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toil of life repay." Imagine - every voice - YOURS, mine, all sounding a thousand times more beautiful than Norman, Sutherland, Callas, Galli-Curci, Melba, Ponselle, Caruso, ever sounded here - even when just speaking the most mundane of casual words.
