I’ll never forget this woman’s performance at the Atlanta Olympics. Even someone who is not into opera, could be captivated by this woman’s voice. I used to work for the phone company, and was lucky to have her as one of my customers. She was just as gracious and beautiful speaking to me over the phone.

I find out today, décembre 2023 ,that Madame Jessie Norman left us in 2019. I was Lucy to hear and see her 3 times. She was fluent in French ,German ,and Italian.This Supra Intelligent Lady enlightened my Christmas Eves since childhood. This next Christmas eve ,she will be in my heart ❤

Her expressions, legato, tremolo, etc. were ...otherworldly ...Heavenly ...impossibly beautiful for this lowly earthly plane of existence ...She exalted the very s~p~a~c~e around her into Ethereal Perfection! ...She lifted you to another plane ...a Heavenly plane ...and helped the faltering soul believe in Eternity!!! P.s. ...I listened again ...and cried again & changed my mind ...Jessye's voice was not "near perfection"... She was PERFECTION!!!

This is for the first time I am listening to this GREAT and WONDERFUL voice, harmonious sounds, velvety and full of emotion. Amazing technique, as well. I am so impressed and happy that I discovered this magnificent operatic singer, even if she passed away. I will make sure I'll listen to other arias interpreted by her. Yes! God's gift to humanity!! I wonder if she ever sang in a cathedral like Notre Dame (translation "Our Lady"). She deserved such a setting like a diamond in its most finely wrought gold setting!! In fact with that diamond sparkle of near perfection, emotion, passion, yet softest gentlest tenderness... her voice was liquid GOLD!!!

She is with God. And, my friends, we must always pray for those who do not have hearts warmly beating like moments such as this. No matter who sings this song it adopts to all their voices yet is different I find from person to person yet each one's way and style or voice singing is is unique and special.

Germans created romanticism together with the English William Blake. You don't find German language romantic either because you don't speak it or because you haven't listened to real singers like Ms Norman doing Schubert or many great masters. Learn.

Juan Díaz no actually Germans didn’t “create” romanticism. That was the English and the French. They did follow the tradition and was one of the last to keep it. Either way German has always sounded beautiful to me, in both songs and speech.

Thanks for sharing....yes one of the greatest voices I have heard & a beautiful song...I have listened to her over many years as I am 79yrs old & remember her singing for many important occasions....RIP Jessie 😊❤️

Some of the most beautiful, smooth legato singing I've ever heard came from Jessye Norman, and this performance is an example of that. Makes me melt every time!

It's all about the legato. When you hear it, you know. Strange how no one who has such flawless legato lacks any of the other vocal characteristics you want to hear. She vibrates it just as she wishes, and only when she wishes; then she puts that legato out without a flutter, even on the high notes. And you can understand every word.

It brings me to copious tears for its sheer Perfection & Beauty ...this Voice of an Angel, Jessye Norman!! Her expressions, legato, tremolo, etc. were ...otherworldly ...Heavenly ...impossibly beautiful for this lowly earthly plane of existence ...She exalted the very space around her into ethereal perfection! ...She lifted you to another plane ...a Heavenly plane ...and helped the faltering soul believe in eternity!!!

That's what a prayer should be like. She made me crying. A real pray to God she's made.

Her voice is so giant, and yet so soft and loving. Make us feel her pure sound is reaching the angeles.

Perfection personified in her voice. The heavens sat in awe and observed the voice of emotions, existence and tranquility. Time and space sat still momentarily.
