I followed your suggestions. 6 weeks later I had reduced my triglycerides by 5O%. The TGL were too high for the past 5 years despite statins. It did not seem to bother the doctor. No problems at all to follow the new way of eating. Probably the most difficult thing might be to give up bread. But giving up the bread also means giving up processed meat we have with sandwiches. That helps. As a bonus I lost 20 pounds and 2 inches waist circonference. Also gained a lot of energy and better sleep. I am 83. Good job Jessie. Marc

I spent years practicing food combining, a la natural hygiene, and while that certainly made things easier to digest these approaches have been a lot more comfortable and the results in steady energy have been impressive.

I ordered the book too. Thank you so much for sharing. Random questions: Is having smoothies (Veg and fruits) mixed with protein (whey or vegetable) good or not? Some people eat oatmeal for breakfast, and they are not hungry. Do they get the glucose spike? So eager to get my book.

Hi, Fruit smoothies are not the best for our glucose, especially on an empty stomach. But you can make a smoothie that keeps your glucose steady using: a source of protein (protein powder, nuts, nut butter...), a source of fat (avocado, coconut oil, nut butter...), a minimal amount of fruit (and ideally berries), unlimited amounts of veggies. :)

Good afternoon! My name is Marie. I would like to know about getting the right to publish the book in Russian. What are the conditions for acquiring the copyright? I read your book in English. I liked it very much. Thanks for your research and invested efforts. I sincerely wish more people could get acquainted with your research.

Explain to me how eating a salad first, then tuna and then bread is any different to eating those same ingredients in the form of a sandwich? Unless you're spacing out those food items by an hour or two, it all ends up in the stomach at the same time and all gets digested together regardless of the order. This is just another version of the "food combining" trend that has been debunked countless times. As long as you're eating balanced meals of complex carbohydrates, a source of complete protein and healthy fats, it doesn't matter what order those foods enter your body. Most whole foods contain a combination of macros so trying to separate them out like you're suggesting is not only pointless, it's not even possible. Also, stop trying to paint glucose "spikes" as some sort of disease that needs to be cured. Glucose spikes are a totally normal response to high GI foods and sometimes, our body needs a quick and easy source of energy, i.e. before a HIIT workout or a run. If however you know you're going to be on your feet all day and not have a lot of time to eat, having a meal like mentioned before with complex carbs, protein and fats will provide you with long lasting energy to get you through the day.

I get your points, there are so many diet fads it's hard to believe the order of food matters. Glucose spikes are not ok for ppl with Insulin Resistance. Spikes over a long period are damaging and cause vascular disease in diabetics. The salad first adds fibre, and digestion has to work harder, therefore the carbohydrate is absorbed more slowly; the picture on a graph shows more a curve than a spike. Believe me, I have checked my blood sugars with both methods. A fatty meal helps as well, my dietitian told me to add cream to my morning milk coffee to slow the spike. This has a similar effect to the salad-first idea, as the fat delays absorption of the carbs. Due to my health I cannot eat high GI foods, I have a low carb high fat diet and often do heavy manual work. I am never hungry at work as my body burns fat for energy. Its on the rest days when I get hungry. Go figure!

That's just marketing lingo to make the data accessible. Listen to her. She's a microbiologist using very effective approaches. And btw, I spent 2+ years as a fruitarian and it destroyed me and my husband. DESTROYED. So yeah, no.

Hello CherryGirl, I get the cynicism with the diet hack thing. Its good to question. Believe me, over time, high carb (including fruit)/low fat ruined my health. I have had to take drastic measures to turn it around, I am now healthy but some damage to my pancreas cannot be undone. Now I do the opposite: low carb/ high fat. I used to love fruit but now only ever eat a small portion of blueberries most days. I followed Jessie's advice to eat the salad/veg first as its backed by evidence and it works for me. I used to do the opposite with my carb addiction. Unfortunately, fruit also fed that addiction. There is irrefutable evidence that Ancel Key's low fat hypothesis was poor quality research, and interesting to note that an increase in cardiovascular disease coincided with that new dietary paradigm in the 1970's.
