Full highlights from the last event of the Women's Heptathlon, the 800m, in which Britain's Jessica Ennis seals Gold with an overall points score of 6,955. This video also includes interviews with the medalists as well as the victory ceremony.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

The pressure on jess was immense. She was the gold pin up girl. She was on 100ft banners on buildings and busses etc and yet where that was to much for some she was as cool and focused as can be. Epic.

This still gives me goosebumps even 6 years on. The roar from the crowd as she enters the home straight, taking the lead in the process and everyone knows she is the Champion is a glorious moment. What an incredible 45 minutes that kicked off, 3 gold medals in the stadium, 6 in total for us that day.

This is still my favourite Olympic moment. Jess Ennis is so inspiring. She was at her best in the earlier heats and then she was passed by the then heptathlon world champion, she reached into her reserves and powered her way into the first place for the greatest gold medal win in British history. It still makes me cry watching her give it all. She taught me to never ever give up. Thank you Jess.

Chernova was only world champion at this point because they hadn't banned her for being a doping cheat. Jess was given that title in retrospect. I don't care what KJT or Nafi Thiam do in the coming years, Jess will always be the greatest heptathlete of the modern era.

Ennis in my opinion is the best female track and field we have produced. With all the pressure coming into London as favourite and the face of the games other athletes might have crumbled under the pressure, but with Jess it spurred her on and she won easily in the end! Great performance!

Jess Ennis is too modest and does not appreciate how the nation felt when she won the 800mtrs in the 2012 Olympics, winning Gold. She's a legend. In the UK we have a multicultural population and we all love Jessica Ennis.

Heptathlon is a multi-discipline athletics competition where athletes compete in 7 different events over 2 days to find the best female all round track and field athlete. Events are 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin and 800m. The equivalent for male athletes is the decathlon which is 10 events over 2 days.

Also, there is no evidence that that women is even British - she's not holding a flag or wearing a shirt that gives a hint as to her nationality. She could be French for all we know. And how his comment could be construed as American arrogance is lost on me.
