Jerry's the best at just cutting through all the BS and just making things make sense. My favourite example of this is in the CICGC ep with Bill Burr when Bill mentions how loves that Cuba has classic 50s American cars everywhere and Jerry says "do you think they think of them as classics?" 😂

Of course, this will be seen as cynical, and his season lineups only got more diverse because of the backlash. Ya can't win.

Diversity isn't good or bad, it's neutral. You take 5 white male comedians, and you remove one of them and put a black woman up there, and the improvement would come solely from the degree to which she's funnier than the guy you removed. Her blackness or womaness does NOTHING for the equation.

Elon's argument sucked there because Cuban's talking about business strategy and Musk brings it to sports. Obviously the taller more athletic person is preferable for sports, but in a business/ academic world where acumen can come from anyone, favoring a specific race is racist. Plus dude grew up in apartheid South Africa and his dad ran an emerald mine. Musk being a 'man of the people' spouting 'common sense' is insane.

It is the best example. Why do you think hiring a subpar firefighter, cop, surgeon, or pilot for the sake of diversity would be okay, yet a basketball game is off-limits? No one's life is at risk if they mandate wnba players to play along with the NBA players. But, there are extreme risks when hiring mediocre employees that dictate how our society functions. The bottom line, just like sports a business is ran like a team and if you want the best results for everyone then they should hire the most qualified regardless of race, age, or who they want to sleep with.

  • @oneroneen

Unfortunately the premise" the best person for the job vs diversity" is false. Hiring solely for diversity is a losing argument I agree. The sad reality is humans often can be very tribal, to the the detriment of those not of the tribe. Inclusion by mandate is not inclusion. Leadership based on lineage and legacy will fail eventually, because new, possibly better ideas, more efficient practices will be missed or overlooked. History has shown this over and over.In world war 2 the invasion of Normandy, it was a farmer who help to defeat the hedgerows so the allies could liberate Europe. Not a military historian, not a war college educated graduate. A farmer, a farmer with a more diverse background than his peers. There's nothing fair about being elite. Jerry is correct to say "are you funny? ( elite ) than I'm interested.

These guys are towing the line and saying "diversity is great of course", then start talking with their actual rational opinions. Whats funny about DEI people is from what side of their mouth say to see color and culture everywhere but then say every role in society needs to mirror the pie chart of society as if cultures don't have preferences and may value certain professions over others.

these guys mean well but are VERY OFF...i don't consider myself woke per se, but it's just way too easy nowadays to dismiss things as woke and reverse racist bc you can play devils advocate with nearly any subject today with selective facts.....i love sam, but you cant say you're for diversity and it's good and then say you stop at counting? then how the hell does it change for the better if you dont see the stats??? the colorblind idea is a modernist understanding of race- as in it ignores the life experience as another race, it says all people are humans and the same ...the better post modern idea is to say even though someone is a different race and has completely different life exp, they are still worthy of respect- this highlights the difference of race and yet gives all races the respect they deserve.....my point in all this is, and i love mark too, but their understanding of what woke is is so reductive and simple they dont get how things that are meant to remedy inequality work....that's how you get idiots like musk saying quotas are racist, a juvenile gotcha idea.....what i will say is there should be a time and place to discuss these things and the interviewer read the room wrong....but the idea that seinfeld got mostly white comics or anything like this, has merit and should be examined if DEI is actually something you are for, Sam.....BTW the musk gotcha w the chinese lady basketball player is moot (basketball is a sport and demands players be of certain height and build usually to be competitive-- there is nothing intrinsically white about being a good comic- not the same thing---there are MORE comic that are white surely, but to say whites are better at comedy IS what would be racist FI you were to say that.....

Theres like centuries of systemic racism and sexism stacked against minorities, they don't have equal opportunities to succeed. We have to have things like it because otherwise we could continue to just never have diverse voices and talent.

Let's just pretend it's not happening and eventually it will go away? I don't know how you people think problems are solved. But I can tell you that ignoring them doesn't usually work. Sorry but most minorities just don’t relate to that white dry humor. Culture and social upbringing’s determine humor. Very strange topic.
