Jerry Lewis roundtable discussion on Jerry Lewis on television

Ойын-сауық

Audi, Thad, and Kat discuss Jerry Lewis' tv specials/series from the 1950's-1960's (A little bit of Colgate Comedy Hour, the 1957-1960 specials, the 1963 talk show series, and 1967-1969 series. We didn't get a chance to discuss the 80's show since we ran out of time). We also discuss Jerry Lewis' directed tv episodes (Brothers, Superforce, and Ben Casey. The Bold Ones and Good Grief, we will discuss on a future episode.)

Good and informative discussion! I'm looking forward to the next one. A few comments: At 05:58, the first feud was in Feb. 1954 while M&L were filming Three Ring Circus. The CCH show with Dean dunking Jerry down in the water tank was in Sept. 1955. At 12:10, Bobby Van was the dancer/choreographer. He and Jerry were also close personal friends. At 14:50, Jerry jumping over his cane, and Dean not able to duplicate the feat, can be seen in At War With The Army. At 19:40, Jerry hired Ed Simmons to write for the TV show, but Simmons regretted it and quit. He had the same problem with Jerry as in the old CCH shows: Jerry constantly interfered with the script. At 28:10, Mel Brooks was hired by Jerry to write the script for The Ladies Man, along with Bill Richmond. Jerry contended that Brooks did not do what he was hired for and instead was busy setting up his own career on Jerry's time, so Jerry fired him. Brooks complained to the Screen Writers Guild, but his name was not included in the writing credits for The Ladies Man. At 38:57, Vince Edwards was also in Sailor Beware. Unfortunately, the Ben Casey episode with Jerry is no longer available on KZread.

Yeah Jerry jumping over the cane, was in At War With the Army and also The Caddy. I think they did something like that on CCH too. But yeah Vince Edwards had a small part in Sailor Beware, and other home movie productions. And thank you yes, Bobby Van, I did remember his real first name Robert anyway. haha I feel like Thad discussed the whole Mel Brooks thing on a previous episode. I think Thad and Audi were alluding to the 2nd feud where it was even more likely that Dean and Jerry might break up, which was after the premiere of You're Never Too Young, which of course was a couple of months prior to that episode. Ed Simmons regretted yes, but he knew what he was getting into. haha I still think his writing wasn't that great for that show. There isn't really any difference in how funny the Lear and Simmons episodes were from the Crane and Phillips written episodes. When Dean and Jerry went wild, that was the best part of the show.
