The best version of all in my opinion. Amazingly written by Leonard Cohen

@@James-hd6ez ok. I liked it, but Buckley is still my favorite. Whatever works for you. That’s the beauty of music.

@rogeroran2911 is rite! You are 100% correct its all about taste and preferences, if you do a deep dive into Cale ( founder member of the Velvet Underground) he might surprise you 😉.
I love this rendition and it always brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Jeff Buckley died in a tragic accident at 30 years old. I will forever wonder what beautiful and soulful music he would have gifted us had he lived. I have to go now. This song hits me so hard that I can barely breathe. This song is so beautiful.

I get it. I miss him so much. His death hit me as if he were a close friend. ❤
Jeff does genius cover versions of songs. His studio version/cover of Nina Simone’s “Lilac Wine” is extraordinary.
When you do a cover of a treasured song and do it so well with just an electric guitar and your voice.
Jeff Buckley's version of "Lilac Wine" on the Grace record is stunning, too. Its intimacy is very reminiscent of Nina Simone's arrangement. Loved "Hallelujah." Great reaction. Oh yes, and he's a serious Zeppelin fan, and it was quite mutual as Jimmy Page lauded "Grace" a lot when it was released.
So there's a good story about this song... Leonard Cohen first met Jeff at Jeff's father's funeral (Tim Buckley was also a very talented singer), Jeff asked if he could writer a cover of this and Cohen was so impressed with Jeff's guitar and vocal abilities he said absolutely. Jeff picked out the lyrics from various versions of the song Leonard had played over the years (he constantly changed the lyrics and tone of the song) and made it a distinctly sensual theme which he was ultimately embarrassed about. He didn't want Leonard to hear it. He also allegedly didn't want to put it on the album but the label insisted. Leonard Cohen LOVED Jeff's interpretation and has apparently said it's the best version of the song he's ever heard. It's definitely more sexual than the original, but it works so well, and with Jeff's pining, soulful, agonizing tone it's (IMO) a work of musical perfection.

Hmmm thats not true because jeff buckley didnt come to his fathers funeral. He wasnt invited
This was a stunning cover. So beautiful.
Thanks, Biz, for reacting to this cover♥️
Fav version ❤
Love this but I so love the guitar intro on the album version so I missed that. All these years later Jeff Buckley is still my favourite artist 💕💕💕💕
Absolutely 💯 hauntingly beautiful
He is the BEST ! He is a LEGEND ! KING Jeff 👑🙏🤍
This is my all time favourite song RIP to this legend a great soul gone too soon
Maybe there’s a God above. But all I’ve ever learned from love. Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you. Genius lyrics by Leonard Cohen.

The who song is a masterpiece of writing.
I think the album version is the best, but of all the "Hallelujah" covers, Jeff's is without question the best. Check out "Lover You Should've Come Over" and "Mojo Pin" for starters. You really can't go wrong with any choices. He was a gift to the world, taken too soon because we didn't deserve him. 😭

This one has a bit more blues/jazz flavor to it. That's what I hear, anyway.
Myles Kennedy does a really good version of Hallelujah using the late Jeff Buckley's guitar 🎸
Love this beautiful song ❤
First version of this song I ever heard, so I can't be objective. Tears every.single.time. Thanks Biz. I've always loved that you can catch the engineer say "Wow. Great" at the end.

It's the best version. A rare exception. I am a fan of Cohen too.
Loud Reed said Buckley did the best version of this 🎵 that he wrote
Nice version!
What an absolute pleasure to listen to this song with you
Listen to Jeff Buckley's father, Tim Buckley. Song to the Siren. I love his version from The Monkees back in...bazillion years ago.
The sound of pure heartbreak.
Chester Bennington of Linkin Park sang this song at Chris Cornell’s funeral. (Chris Cornell -Soundgarden Audioslave) for mellow Chris-See Chris Cornell’s prince cover “Nothing Compares 2u” or “the Promise”
RIP. Some people say he never got his teeth worked on because he was afraid it would mess with his singing. Nowadays everybody teeth need to be perfect. Crazy. Thanks bro
My favorite version and he made it his own!
This is the only version of this song I listen to
This is one of the most covered song ever
This is music at its purest form. Same reason people like oliver anthony, because this is real
❤❤❤
This is the title track of his only album, ‘Grace’, live in the studio from the BBC. It shows what he’s capable of, both with the guitar and amazing vocals, especially the third verse. When it ends there is just silence. Thanks! kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYOespOdaLrgeco.htmlsi=gQB9ZMigCyKJS0bw
The DEFINITIVE version. And this is not even the actual album version.
Though John Cale did this arrangement first (and did it brilliantly), it was Jeff Buckley who made it his own. For everyone that has done it in any reality show later, Buckley is the standard. NO-ONE has reached that standard...

Not in my opinion ….k.d. Lang does an amazing version also enjoy Pentatonic’s version …. Theirs is more uplifting but Lang’s version can rip your heart out.

@@Nana_Reads Love K.D. Lang, and have been listening to her since she released "Angel with a Lariat" with the Reclines back in '87. In my book K.D.s rendition of "Hallelujah" battle with Rufus Wainwright's for 2nd place - but for me Jeff Buckley will always be the front runner - I prefer his renditions simplicity and vulnerability to anything. The way he accompany himself on the acoustic, is pure genious. The song doesn't need more... 😊 Petatonic is technically brilliant, but compared to the 3 before mentioned, I find Pentatonic a bit boring. But hey, I've been wrong before... 😁

@@Nana_ReadsI also love KD Lang’s version, it shows off her stunning virtuosity. For me Jeff’s version is more sensitive, delicate, soulful, and haunting. They are both beautiful to me, in different ways. But the emotional power of Jeff’s version will always make it my favourite 😢❤
Cohen penned it and Buckley set it in stone. Everyone else is grasping for straws.
