***Halleluja Lyrics***
I heard there was a secret chord
that david played and it pleased the lord
but you don't really care for music, do you
well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
the minor fall and the major lift
the baffled king composing hallelujah
hallelujah...
well your faith was strong but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you to her kitchen chair
she broke your throne and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the hallelujah
hallelujah...
baby i've been here before
i've seen this room and i've walked this floor
i used to live alone before i knew you
i've seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not a victory march
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
hallelujah...
well there was a time when you let me know
what's really going on below
but now you never show that to me do you
but remember when i moved in you
and the holy dove was moving too
and every breath we drew was hallelujah
well, maybe there's a god above
but all i've ever learned from love
was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
it's not a cry that you hear at night
it's not somebody who's seen the light
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
hallelujah...

Could not agree more. All these polished and produced versions don't come close to this. These two captured the essence of the lyrics sitting in a dirty stairway. I'll bet Cohen would agree.

@@dawncanbegrumpyinthemornin1408 oh don`t bring religion into it, this was not meant to be a religious song, in fact there are many different explanations as to what Cohen meant. The bible is mentioned but it is not a song about praising a god, it just uses the word that in Hebrew means praise god but even that word is being used a s a personal ending, good or bad. It most certainly is not an uplifting tribute to a lord of any kind.
Killed it. In the best way possible. Amazing voice. Simply perfect. Encore!

And this is where I manfully say something like "I'm not crying! You're crying!", lol. Truthfully, when she hit that first powerful bit where it echoed down the stairwell they're in, it brought tears to my eyes. I can say this is the first cover of Mr. Cohens work outside of Jeff Buckley's that I think did the song justice. Absolutely amazing. I hope they go far and don't lose sight of what gave them what is clearly a love of music.
This is, by FAR, my FAVORITE version of this song.... EVER..!!!! And I have listened to COUNTLESS versions!!! This young lady KILLS it.!!!!!

Who is she, and where do they come from
How did this kind of beauty come about without a million dollar sound studio, a hundred piece orchestra or a backup chorus? How did it happen in a stairwell, with a guy on an electric guitar, a microphone and a young woman? It happened because of raw talent! I find this performance just as beautiful today as I did when I first heard it four years ago! It was a treat to hear it again!!!
omg found this by accident, she has such a beautiful voice.....
Of all the versions of this song, this is the one that matters. He wrote a beautiful song in search of a voice. This is that voice.
Shout out to the guitarist, his accompaniment is perfect.
As a musician, I'll tell you, this is amazing in every way. Your voice is insane and the guitarist's touch is divine.
Im a "todays kid" and i am so sick of all the singers who dont sing with their soul and dont sing songs with meaning... I loved this song ever since I was little and it still today brings me to tears. You did an amazing cover and you have a beautiful voice. Again, this was amazing.💯
One guitar and a soaring glorious voice. Hallelujah.
it's valentine day, I'm alone with a beer and too much stuff to study. I'm so stressed and sad but I took time to close my eyes and rest my head on my arms while listening to this. thanks

I would still turn him down at least Half. Accompaniment should support the soloist. Maybe hardly notice, except would be so dull without it. It is so easy to turn up an amplifier compared to learning music. Notice guitar is the same wheater with Her or he is solo. Learn to soften with her and it up for his solos.

Beautiful voice, especially when she gets in her higher range. Great control.
The amazing acoustics of a large, cold, hard, empty stairwell served this girl well. You can't miss a note in a place like that because the sound is so full in that space. A missed note screams back in your ears like an icy wind. Whoever you are - good job. This was a joy to hear.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! You two are fantastic!!! I could not breath during this!!!

So much has already been said about this young woman's beautiful, clear, and awesome voice (and all righteously deserved) that I feel some other aspects should also be given their due. 1) The sparseness of the accompaniment is brilliant. Yes, the playing is wonderful but the choice of this arrangement is fantastic as it compliments the loneliness and angst of the song. 2) The passion and heart that goes beyond the mere beautiful gift of her voice reaches into my heart and shakes my soul. 3) What a great location! The acoustics of that stairwell worked perfectly.

@Marie Ferguson Yes, I agree. How can anyone dislike it? The mind boggles.
the best version i ever heard
I've played this song behind a number of artist in studio and stage. This young lady tops them all. The guitarist does an exceptional job of supporting her voice and not overwhelming it. A true sign of a real pro

+Walter Johnson - Most importantly, their hearts are in it. That is what really matters in a song like this.

It wasn't mixed ... as a Raw take minus a sound stage he did it right, when you are sitting behind the speakers it is tough to tell

Since KZread changed the way comments, replies, and thumbs ups/downs, I can't reply or thumbs up on comments about how good and creative it was for them to record in a cold and hard stairwell. That was genius and even goes with the lyrics! She has a beautiful voice and the guitarist is great too!
