remember when ford announced the f150 lightning for under $40k.. and tesla said the cyber truck would be $60k

You could actually order the f150 at that price, but it was going to go down $7000 but they extended subsidies, proving the subsidies go right to the manufacturer

Here in the wealthy Bay Area, we see plenty of Rivians. So the price of Jeep's bigger EVs won't inhibit sales; Jeep has a certain cache with outdoorsy suburbanites, so its whole EV line may thrive.

This will be a game changer for those that need a bump to change...I hope anyway.

I think most new car buyers expect to spend at least $25,000 and that might be the sweet spot/tipping point for EV curious buyers. Home owners understand the value and practicality of driving an EV, especially if they’ve got a garage. That’s the target audience for car companies trying to market their EV’s. Where I live, I see multiple EV’s at nearly every intersection in town and I doubt but a fraction of the drivers are renters. If I was a young man, I’d look into starting a business installing and retrofitting level 2 chargers at apartment complexes and condos. We’re not that far away from electric cars overtaking ICE cars.

I'll believe it when I see it. It's easy for a CEO to announce years in advance what's just in the planning stages. By the time this hits the roads, I'm pretty sure there'll be many other small affordable EVs competing & ready for delivery.

The automakers are going from one extreme to the other extreme in prices. Going from the $80,000 Jeep to the $25,000 Jeep. Welcome back to earth!

I get that you are often referring to American Dollars, but as an Australian, I have to do a mental conversion of the price and I sometimes mistakenly think that I could ever afford an EV, which of course is absurd.

I am enthusiastic about stellantis platform. The swappable battery is a massive advantage.

I cannot help but wonder if these ambitiously low price points were set at a moment when automakers were super optimisitc about the EV market and they were relying on the perceived economies of scale. With the recent walk backs amongst traditional automakers, now favouring hybrids and even more ICE powertrains, is this still now even realistic?

Until we had more charging more universal I would keep an ICE or just rent one for long trips. But for 95% travel around town, EVs make a ton of sense.

Finally, a reliable Jeep.

It sounds too good to be true, so it probably is. It will probably cost about the same as a Chevrolet Bolt.($35,000)

Are they going to lose money on each one they sell? This may just be a way for Carlos to resurrect the brand in the US but I doubt that they can make money at those prices.

Why not sell the Jeep Avenger in the USA if they want to do a small cheap one. It’s much better looking and more modern than the Renegade and does have the later battery and 250 miles of range. Even if the USA I’m pretty sure it’s only a certain demographic that needs to do 600 mile journeys pulling huge trailers. Just saying!

The charge times and ranges may not make these vehicles attractive. EVs sales in America will become the majority once the cars reach 10 minute charge times and 600 miles of range at significantly lower prices than gas cars. Just saying the JEEP Renegade is a FIAT vehicle. And it has a terrible network system. This is much LESS superior to STAR connectors. Chrysler or FCA or Stellantis is a better bet. Let's see if this collaboration works...
