Jeep 2.5 Installing New Head Gasket Final - Wrangler

Jeep 2.5 Installing New Head Gasket Final - Wrangler Basically the same for the 4.0
Christian and I finish the head gasket installation. Randy comes by with some "Slinky" trivia. I mix up a spark plug wire - all is good. I develop " Jerry hands" from not wearing gloves - Christian and Jennifer are happy.

    Metal side goes outward to manifold. I only remember because after I installed mine I looked at the fel pro instructions and that’s what it said. Thankfully I hadn’t torqued the bolts down yet but was still a major PITA

    1:05 I'm curious. I just did this. Cleaned the piston tops like you did and was frightened by how much junk came out of the piston land area when I blew out the top of the rings. Did you bother to rotate the assembly and clean the walls? I had to turn it over 8 times to get it clean. Also how much longer did you run this Jeep, and did it ever start to consume oil through the rings?

    dont kid yourself - most are now made in China by enginer Jony anyway. Ive had that one for a while and actually tested with a Snap On and surprisingly it was really close to the digital $400.00 one as far as the outcome. I wish I had video of that .... Yeah heads can sure go south in a hurry - broken or snapped bolts usually for me.

    Hey David, I'm getting close to finishing up the gasket replacement on the YJ. My head was cracked so I had to get a newish head. So my question now is did you have to readjust the valves? The head I put was read to go from the machine shop but now I'm on a 50/50 here with do you adjust the valves or leave them alone and finish up. Thanks in advance!

  • @RedneckGarage

    @RedneckGarage

    8 жыл бұрын

    +richsaxman I get asked that all the time - on the older wranglers you can buy them individually from the dealership but you should be fine just re-using the old bolts. They aren't prone to stretching and the iron head and block as well is pretty stable so anything before 1997 or so I just suggest you reuse your old bolts. I have toyed with the idea of getting a bolt set for a 1997 and up 2.5 as they are identical blocks - I think Jeep switched from a regular head bolt to a 12 point being the difference.

    Quick question. Have you ever tried to buy parts for this Cherokee. I have a 2000 Cherokee 2.5L and cannot for the life of me find the mounts. Both engine and Trans are wrong from the part stores. I have even gone to the local Chrysler dealership here in TX and they show the wrong ones. If you have any information or help i would really appreciate it. And btw You sir have gained a subscriber

    The slinky story is not accurate, it was invented by a naval engineer named Richard James, by accident in 1943, prior to either one of you being born. He was trying to devise a spring for a naval engine and he watch while one accidentally fell off the table and was amazed at what it did, it went from there.
