The first album’s drums were done with software which is why they re-recorded it with real drums for the 10th anniversary.

It actually is the guitarist, Tosin Abasi, who writes all the music and then builds the drums and a second 8 string guitar around it. I remember playing a showing in Maryland like...10 years ago? There was a band there named The Lost (Lonely?) Tourists, fronted by brother and sister vocalists. They were really good in general, but their drummer is who really stood out. And Anup was that drummer. We stayed in touch, him posting cover videos through the years, slowly building his studio. Now he's who he is, and it's so insane to see, and I'm really happy he has found so much success. Another similar dude is Chris from The Ghost Inside...played local shows with him all the time and now he's who he is. Just so awesome to see people flourish. Maryland has such insane music talent.

The Joy of Motion was written together with Tosin, Matt and Javier. Most of the complex parts was Matt writing down an idea and then sharing it with Tosin and Javier. The newest album, the Madness of Many, practically everything is written by Matt, e.g. the drums were done first and then everything else layered in over the top by Tosin and Javier. Matt is a rhythmical god at this point.

As far as the writing process goes, Tosin Abasi is the brains behind the operation. If you listen to the guitar parts, you’ll find that all of the instrumentation is meant to flow around those guitar parts. So a lot of times in these sections, Tosins’ guitar riff begins for a couple bars and then Matt comes in with a full and then sits into groove. Everyone in the group is talented enough to the point where they all know how to compliment each other and play to each other’s strengths.

Animals as Leaders is written by the guitarist Tosin Abasi. I can't tell you about their writing process, but guessing by their prior work, their first album had programmed drums, programmed by Misha Mansoor of Periphery, so I have a feeling that he lets the drummer do whatever as long as it adds to the mood that he is trying to convey. If you just let someone else do the drums, that shows that you aren't too picky and just want something good to go along with your own sound. This can lead to some really fun drum patterns if you hire a good drummer, and Animals has always had great drummers.

LOVEEE animals as leaders. i dig your channel man! I studied Jazz at Humber College but i love prog and metal so that's what lead me to your channel. To touch on your query about the writing process, i think it's different for every band- Anyone correct me if im wrong, but i believe they've spoken about it and they say that Tobin will come up with a riff, or Javier and they'd explore that and see where they can take it. Other prog bands like TesseracT write differently - i had a lesson with Jay Postones (drummer) and he said that the band leader (forget his nameeeee) writes all of the parts and gives them to the members

Watched Garrett Miller Drum reaction videos literally all day at my computer today. It was joyful. I love these videos. Then my life changed today when I arrived to this video through the queue. At 2:00, an out-of-nowhere explosion of Garrett's colon was heard. I laughed out loud a little burst of laughter. Then about 10 seconds later, I smelled and tasted it. I know what you're thinking. How could I possibly smell and taste a fart over youtube? Well, it's funny you ask. I actually looked over and noticed a dog turd on my couch that sits next to my computer. It may have been there all day for all I know - I genuinely never smelled it until exactly 10 seconds after hearing Garrett break the wind on this youtube video. Astonishing. My sub-conscious did so well to correlate the sound of a fart over youtube that suddenly and almost immediately I finally smell the turd on my couch. It's just that nothing like this has ever happened before and I didn't think it was possible. I guess 2020 is just a crazy fucking shit show. WOW! Thanks Garrett! Keep up the videos!

That's not how they write at all lol, but I agree with your line of thinking regardless. Tosin writes things, maps the drums, and then let's matt write his own shit after. First two AAL had no drummer, but I believe Navene helped map the second. That's another amazing fucking drummer. Navene Koperweis. Goddamn insanely precise. @Clark Culver Actually, those were his exact thoughts, tad he felt like the drummer just recorded improvisations, and afterwards everybody aligned to a composition of those ideas. It is quite clear he thought that, since he repeated the notion during the end of the video.
@Yousuck00
4 жыл бұрын
The first album’s drums were done with software which is why they re-recorded it with real drums for the 10th anniversary.
It actually is the guitarist, Tosin Abasi, who writes all the music and then builds the drums and a second 8 string guitar around it. The first album for AAL was just the guitarist and programmed drums before adding in the drummer and second guitarist. That’s one reason why this band is crazy amazing.

I saw him live at a drum clinic on Monday evening, I was absolutely blown away! Such a nice guy as well!
Third video of yours I’ve watched in a row, and I subscribed finally because of that casual fart in the middle of a reaction. Top tier content my guy.
Dude, Tosin (guitarist) is writing the music there.

Then I read the comments, and then looked a little closer at 02:00. Now I have cried with laughter. My stomach hurts from joy. Runny nose and eyes from tears. I read the comments again and laugh so I cough, on the verge of vomiting. So much joy from a single little fart. Now I also have to subscribe. 10/10

I subscribed for the fart. Stayed for the lesson at the end. I love your channel, KZread what is up recently you are on point with every aspect of my interests recently.
Anup Sastry - Ghost. Incredible metal drummer. Writes and programs his own guitar parts for his solo music.
A few things earned a sub, that review comment, the chugga beef face and then the fart. Truth. There’s a clip of this monster drumming and even losing a stick mid beat and it still hits the fucking symbol in time. Beast 🤘
Nice review! These guys have been my favorite bend for about 10 years now, glad to see someone's first reaction. What did you think of Garstka's skill? Is he good or just hiding it with flashy moves that us plebes might not catch on to?

LOVEEE animals as leaders. i dig your channel man! I studied Jazz at Humber College but i love prog and metal so that's what lead me to your channel. To touch on your query about the writing process, i think it's different for every band- Anyone correct me if im wrong, but i believe they've spoken about it and they say that Tobin will come up with a riff, or Javier and they'd explore that and see where they can take it. Other prog bands like TesseracT write differently - i had a lesson with Jay Postones (drummer) and he said that the band leader (forget his nameeeee) writes all of the parts and gives them to the members
I can smell the talent in this video. 😁

Matt Garstka is amazing, but did Garrett fart 2 mins. in?😂😂
Watched Garrett Miller Drum reaction videos literally all day at my computer today.

Awesome videos man, keep em' coming. If you're curious, you should check out the rest of this band's music.
