    Guys I just wanted to say that your channel is absolutely outstanding. I thoroughly enjoy all of your reviews, even if I dont like the movie. I really laughed how angry Iain got at the stupidity of Covenant.The podcasts are also brilliant. Every week I look forward to your shows and I hope you continue for many years to come.

    Actually year after , Jaws 3D was 1983 , Officer and a gentleman was 1982 , but the one movie he never stoped talking was 1989 Punishes with Dolph Lundgren :-) Problem with Jaws 3D was that it never worked with any 3D system used , not with the red/green glasses (used in 1980s) and not with red/blue glasses . Its like who ever filmed Jaws 3D did not know how to use the 3D camera set up properly , they must have had them too close to each other , to produce the 3D effect .

    Along with being down right horrible Jaws 4 is SOOO fucking depressing and sad. And its set at the beginning at Christmas?! Sean Brody dies within the first 10 minutes & then for a good 20 minutes after it feels like a sad soap opera. All that grieving for a character we really don't even know or care about. But the most maddening part was the reveal that Chief Brody died of a heart attack, brought on by fear of the shark says Ellen Brody. Plllllease, that man took on the great white twice and to do him dirty like that was so wrong, what cause Roy Scheider was smart enough to not take the small slap in the face part they were gonna give him to be killed off?!

  • @gnc623
    @gnc6235 жыл бұрын

    Jaws 4 at least has a few good things to offer. Sean's death is pretty good. The underwater ship scene is good. I think the banana boat scene is actually quite good. The little girl is so innocent and likable that that image of her with the shark so close to getting her is horrifying. And the effects, while not good, are a definite improvement over #3. I am with Iain that 4 is not as bad as 3. From 4, I can at least pick out a few good things about it. I honestly can't think of anything for 3.

    44:03 Just incredible. Maybe the hydraulic arm isn't visible (which is a rarity in this one) but the molding "flash" on that gently swaying tail sure is. Spielberg wouldn't show us Bruce because they had such difficultly getting him to look good; the clowns who made these sequels just said, "meh, show 'im anyways, who cares." But yeah, it's still better than the special effects in the previous sequel--particularly that climactic explosion with the poorly-matted delayed-reaction "jaws" flying at us. I was such a glutton for bad-movie punishment in 1987 that I watched Jaws: The Revenge and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in a single afternoon. In the theaters. Not even as a double feature, either, I paid separate admission to see each wretched piece of crap. WHAT THE HELL WAS WRONG WITH ME I COULD HAVE DIED

    I saw this in 3-D the day it came out like "Jaws 2", the 3rd one was impressive at the time as was "Amityville 3-D" but the story & action was a let down compared to the excellent first two. You are quite correct in your perception of the movie being better in the theater at the time but in today's DVD/BR format it just looks & comes off quite poor. Never saw the "Revenge" film, a fantastic & fun profile on both movies guys, always enjoyable!

    I saw J3 in the cinema in 3D. The 3D effects were absolutely fantastic (for the time). Orders of magnitude better than the rival 3D films of that time. I believe it was actually a very different 3D process they used and is part of the reason many of the effects look like bad blue-screen when viewed flat today. Even though I've seen many 3D movies since, I don't recall a single one where the foreground items popped as far out the screen as those in J3. That first fish head was right in front of my nose.

    So regarding The Revenge. You laugh thinking about how Martin Brody maybe fucked with the mafia, and the mafia sends a shark to kill the Brody family. That's actually not too far from the original premise of the film. Martin Brody arrests a voodoo priest, who curses the family to be killed by sharks. There is even a rarely televised TV version of the film that starts with a narrator saying (something like) "What you are about to see, might be true or a work of fiction. You must decide for yourself!"

  • @sidewaysonhighways
    @sidewaysonhighways5 жыл бұрын

    I’m embarrassed when the dolphins show up. It does sound like I’m watching “Flipper”, and why didn’t the movie pit Shamu against the shark. Then again that didn’t end too well for the last 2 orcas (The orca on the beach and Quit’s boat, the “Orca”) that encountered a giant great white in a Jaws film.

Best comment ever about four Michael Caine questioned about the film stated, "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific." :D FYI 1983 was the summer of 3D ... smh

    It's def overkill, I mean that scene went on for several minutes and spliced with the Christmas carolers it just comes off terribly. My issue is we hardly know the Sean character now as an adult so the sentimentality just isn't there for them to then spend almost the entire rest of the 1st act having everyone grieve for his death.

    I went to Sea World as a child in 1983 & they were actually pluggin' this movie! I remember the strollers that are shaped like Shamu which are long gone. But Idk if the Shark encounter started w/ this but I remember seeing a promotional film w/ scenes from Jaws 3D & then the screen lifted up revealing an extremely short tunnel which was cool but not as big as the tunnels portrayed in the movie via green screen. So yeah everyone steps into this tunnel & while quickly being pulled on a conveyor belt you hear the Jaws theme throughout. Yet all the sharks that were in the tank surrounding the glass tunnel couldn't have been more than a foot long. I went years later & ate @ the shark cafe & by then circa 2000's they had many large ones that looked menacing.. But all that was in that tunnel back in '83 looked like fish you could prob. get @ your local pet-store! P.S. There's a guy who worked the Special effects for Jaws 3D who found & recently uploaded his personal home movies which capture them making the small shark, filming the Undersea Kingdom along w/ the yellow Sub which is all minature that they simulated water via smoke & some green-screen. & my favorite the final explosion is captured using high-speed film & a minature shark! Siskel & Ebert said it best in their infamous review of part 4. The cheapest level of attempting to thrill an audience is the dream sequence & they did it twice! And what about the sharks POV which is a total logical error, only the fin is above water & its eyes and every other part of it is under yet when they do those shots the shark is obviously seeing what's above water lol. And lastly Michael Caine's shirt being bone dry when he comes out of the water in the very next shot. He had to miss the Oscars where he won the 1986 Best supporting Actor because he was filming this shit. And that just barely scratches the surface with how much is wrong in the last movie.

    I saw this in 3D on the screen in 1983, and at 12 years old it was mind blowing to me. Copying off of cable a year later on VHS, not so much without the 3D gimmick, and I left it in the 80's. I was excited, and STILL enjoy it, when it came out on 3D Blu-ray. Of course at 45 at the time (I'm 48 now) I could enjoy it as cheese and still appreciate that the 3D was actually better and more in your face then than it is now. On my secoond viewing of the Blu-ray though, I had to pause it to laugh at myself because after 35 years I missed the most obvious plot hole of them all. With no rivers to Orlando, how did these 2 sharks swim to Sea World?!

    I agree with you guys that Jaws The Revenge's best moment is the death of Sean Brody. Not knowing about the reputation of the film or the story when I first saw it, I was shocked and sad and thought we had a legit Jaws sequel, only to make a colossal fall as it progressed. The other two positives about Jaws The Revenge is I thought the poster was cool and the music is not so bad. Lol.

    There is zero defence for Jaws 4 and not a huge amount for Jaws 3 (3D). However, if you actually see it in 3D rather than watching the the DVD and trying to imagine it in 3D there is a big difference. It oddly becomes quite entertaining in a quirky, silly kind of way. Remember the whole movie was built around the 3D..in fact the first good 3D "scare" of the movie is when the title "JAWS 3D" snaps at the screen. That silly moment is so surprisingly effective that it gets you every single time you see it, even when you know it's coming. In 2D it means absolutely nothing and has zero effect at all. Every time I have ever tried to watch this movie in 2D it's woefully dull much of the time. The 3D is used totally as a gimmick to sell the movie and to that end it works well enough to make it fun in that format. The movie knows what it is and never pretends to be anything else. You really do have to view it in 3D before reviewing it as if you have actually seen it in 3D. It's sad that they focussed so much on the 3D that the movie itself is so second rate, I think the full on parody would have been a better way to go and that would have made it work much better whether you viewed it in 3D or not. As it is...watch it in 3D and you will probably be left with a stupid silly smirk on your face and not really know why. Watch it in 2D and you'll be lucky to get past the first 30 minutes before falling asleep.

    I just bought a blu-ray combo pack for my girlfriend because she likes sharks. It only had Jaws 2, 3, and the revenge. Lol I cant wait to see the look on her face when she sees 3 and 4 because she has yet to see them. *Turn Up!*

    Am I the only one who had a big problem with the lighting in Jaws 3? In a lot of those underwater scenes, I thought it was really hard to see!

    Fun fact:1 For jaws 💩💩💩 The shark hunters friend you refer to, is "Hack you up with a Hatchet Harry" From lock stock and two smoking barrels! Fun fact:2 From Jaws the revenge or (Jaws the telepathic roaring lion) , as I like to call it. Sharks don't hold grudges or have feelings! Something Im surprised the producers of this utter 💩💩💩 should have known before filming!!!

    I must be the only one who likes Jaws 3. I've heard the 4th movie was made because of Aliens

    You guys are always fucking awesome! However you guys bring it to another level of awesome during these two reviews.Ian, your introduction for Jaws 3 is the best I went to see this movie at a drive-in with the original type of paper 3D glasses and by the time it was over I said what and inwardly I'm saying what the fuck did I just watch. Then in 1987 what in the blue fucking fuck is that travesty called jaws 4?that shark got skill and frequent Swimming miles 😎😎😎 I was 11 years old when that movie came out and I could not express to my parents what I truly thought about the movie but damn..

    If Lea Thompson's character had died, she wouldn't have had a career. Also, kinda surprised you didn't mention ENEMY MINE! ALSO, also, Dennis Quaid filmed DREAMS CAPE in 1983. Just sayin!

    Having seen the 4th movie at the cinema was very disheartening to say the least......even as a kid I knew this was a total betrayal of everything that made the first movie great.......all the black and white sepia "memories" scenes from the first movie just underlined that fact.........

    This movie (Jaws 3D) was a travesty. I couldn't stand it back then. The 3d wasn't even cool when it was cool. The dolphins were a thing back then, though. As for Lou Gossett Jr: he was well-known but he was way down the B-list anyway. I don't usually like remakes, but I'd be ok with this movie being remade given that the story itself is interesting.
