That's AMICUS studios that did the quiet cult classics of the early 70s, such as - VAULT OF HORROR & HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, of which there wouldnt be a CREEP SHOW with out. my favourite stories are SOMETHING TO TIDE YOU OVER & THE CRATE

I 'm dissapointed that the humour doesnt work all that well here in what is a sci fi black comedy, for the humour it should have equalled ROBOCOP but it never does, also the point they are trying to make about extreme 80s capitalism, in the game show format, seem muted, this film needed more...strength & daring. its often said in filmic entertainment that the public don't like propaganda, BUT some of the most classic films especially in the sci fi genra, use social comment& it works - ROBOCOP, BAT MAN BEGINS, KONG SKULL ISLAND (a metaphor for Viet Nam) & BLACK PANTHER, WEST WORLD to name just a few

Why, thank you for reviving my nightmarish memories that I so carefully buried with hard work. I've been recommending this film to people for years while making it clear that I will NEVER in my life watch it again.

That's the issue i have with this movie, the ending. Did she tell her something so horrible that she decided to end herserlf? if so, wouldn't you want to be alive as long as possible instead? If she told her something so beautiful, it would be a bit more logical to go on and end yourself to be in that place faster, but then if it was something beautiful why would she be so selfish to take the secret from her loyal cult? It's a contradiction beacuse even if it was something beautiful, the expressions of the cult leader were more inclined to fear than joy or excitement. It's a contradiction because if she told her the afterlife was something horrible, then you wouldn't speed your own death. That's the reason i avoid this movie because it's awesome, but the pay off is a slap on my face telling me that all my time and emotions invested on these characters and story were useless.

This is definitely the most horrific and dam right horrible movie experience I’ve ever had and will definitely never watch again. If there are people out there that like this sort of stuff then they’re extremely disturbed. I can only imagine how screwed up the people who made this are.

Wonderful after watching this, nobody will want to see the goddamn film lol (kidding..sorta) No this film isn't for everyone esp the timid or the Saw and Terrifier nitwits who's main exclaim is "Hey look at that!'. The film has a level of realistic brutality not often seen (unless stylized to the point of inertia in Hollyweird) but it's wince inducing not alienating. The director wisely chose two characters Anna and Lucie for the audience to identify with then expanded the horror to be discovered around them. It's a potent and at times heartbreaking watch that the leads convey in every frame they are in (and that's all of them) We know them and nothing else. Just like Anna we have no idea what the f@ck is going on or the reasoning behind Lucie's bloody rampage. And finally just like Anna our level of dread and final realization we are trapped with no hope of escape is beyond comprehension. That's Laugier's genius of leading us exactly where we did not want to go but just like Mademoiselle, we just had to know. An A+ movie, a difficult watch but with more going on upstairs than the next 50 Blumhouse releases combined. Great review fellas, always a pleasure (have you ever watched or did a review of A' I'int'erieur aka Inside?)

While this movie has gruesome violence and visuals, the director did a good job building a good reason and concept behind it, indeed many things are up to your imagination and interpretation, and the things you don't know or are unexplained is what makes the movie more frightening

@14:35 The presenters are too young to remember that in elder times we could call back "payphones" across europe and I believe in little england and the states too. It was a way to coordinate meetings back in distant 90s before every kid could burn their brain cells with cell phones ;)

I had no idea a remake was done, read its synopsis...it's definitely nowhere close to the original. Granted the makers of the 2015 one admitted they didn't want to go as far as the original did, but then you have to wonder what was the point?

Martyrs is a well made & good movie. Obviously quite polarizing, intense & extreme, still it's well acted with very good practical SFX. In some ways it has a John Carpenter style ambiguous ending. It is not for all movie goers to watch, but horror fans will appreciate the effort put in to the making of this experience. One of the better " torture porn" of the late 2000s.

My biggest plot hole for this movie besides the obvious one of the girl staying in the house after seeing it's a torture dungeon... I'm in really why would you even stay in the house after you seen your friend killed everyone? But anyway... The biggest plot hole is these people think that afterlife is real but are still willing to torture people to death?!?! So the at least like pretty dang confident that the concept of heaven and hell are real. Confident enough to spend millions of dollars in years and years and years to achieve this goal. But they're not confident enough to be afraid of going to hell for torturing people to death?!

I remember watching Martyrs twice upon it's release. It's stuck with me for a long time. It was very impressive, yet devastating. Unlike many other so called torture porn and shocker flicks from that period, it's really good film in general. Since many years I intended to do the rewatch, but older I got, more real life stresses I faced, and less desire I had for experience like Martyrs. Few months ago I went through a break up after being in a relationship for almost 16 years. I thougt it's a good moment for revisiting Martyrs, I feel like sh*t anyway. It still holds up very well. Knowing all the plot twists it's not as engaing as it was before though. Also there are some very 00s exthetics to it, that I am not a fan of. But it's a very good movie regardless. Cheers guys

This film is a masterpiece. In fact, it was the first DVD I have purchased in a few decades. Amazing! Always a treat when you guys upload, much love from York x ETA: I believe that Anna told Mademoiselle that there was nothing, so when she tells Etienne to keep doubting and doing herself in, she knows that all the faith she had in Martyrs somehow having an insight into what comes after death was all for nought, and she tortured all those girls for no reason. So she takes off all her finery (finery that she will not need as there is no afterlife, so it's pointless wearing it), and puts the gun in her mouth.
