I married an unbeliever, and one day out of the blue, she walked out the door and left me with 3 kids and all of our responsibility and she’s never looked back, really changed my life and did a number on my children. We survived the storm, but she kept the chaos going for years to come, as she became an alcoholic and drug addict, and did unmentionable things that were impossible to hide from my kids. Make sure you know who you’re entering into life with, before you find yourself cleaning up messes and sheltering your kids from complete insanity. Jesus has seen me through and my kids have learned many valuable, yet sad lessons over the last 20 years, but they are all fine, other than the fact that they don’t have a mom, which has left deep scars.

Missy - that’s true period. You can’t go into a marriage thinking you’re going to change something about the person you marry. They are who they are and you got into marriage “as is”. So, definitely being equally yoked , especially spiritually is a good thing going into a marriage.

  • @elizabeththomas8746

I agree with marriage. Don't get married if not equally yoked. I wished I had better roll models to teach me that. 39 years married, I struggle every day with that mistake. Now I totally understand why people, after 40 years they divorce from that kind of struggle. Prayers needed. Y'all are so blessed. I Love your podcast. Thank you.

I'm praying for you. Fix your eyes on Jesus, invest in your relationship with God. Set your expectations in line with what the heart of God is, in other words, if Christ expects for you to be peaceful in his arms then you can expect the same thing and not be disappointed. Leave the heart changing of your husband up to Yeshua.

I think a lot of people would if they could change the narrative. I married young. Not sure it was for the right reasons but when my husband cheated I couldn't get passed it - I tried for many years and held that anger and grudge for many many more. All I keep hearing myself say is I wish I came to Yeshua sooner so I could have found that God fearing man and my life would have been so very different. I thought I did find that man about 4 yrs ago, turns out it got exhausted for him to pretend he wasn't a narcissist so when his true colours shined they were blinding - I tried to stay but it was unbearable- now I feel life has passed me by and I will never be able to make those memories and raise that family and share generations of stories with grandchildren and it makes me very sad. I pray for us all. That those in a God made marriage stay respectful, full of life and love and those that are not stay strong, compassionate and patient unless abuse is involved then at that point ask the Almighty to be your strength to save yourself. Good bless you all. Love 😊these podcasts !!!!

I agree with what Al said about short engagements, my wife and I got married a month after getting engaged, in a little white church, it wasnt a big show, just a simple wedding, in front of our families and God. And I see where Missy is coming from, marriage is such a blessing if you've got a good partner. I could live a thousand lifetimes and I'd seek her out every time.

Years ago when I was going to church at a particular congregation, there was an older lady in the church who was my go-to for adult talks about life, about courting, about marriage, and about sexual relations. She was about 80+/-, and as a Godly woman she could talk and give advice on all of it…without embarrassment, blushing, or a stutter. When that woman passed away in 2003, I felt like I had lost a best friend, advisor, and confidant. Occasionally, I still go to her grave just to visit and have a talk. I don’t believe she is in that grave, but the talks still help me out when I am puzzling life and my marriage.

My husband and I were virgins too. I didn’t think anyone did that any more, so good for you! But I have to say our wedding night was absolutely beautiful. We’d talked beforehand several times of what our expectations and hopes were for our wedding night which was enlightening because we saw things a bit differently. Like I wanted slow and savory, and he wanted fast and furious. So we decided we’d try my way first and then his next. But it ended up being a combination as the pent up waiting sort of took over. We were just crazy about exploring each other and loved losing control. It was a great beginning that got better and better the more we learned together. We both thought this gift from God was the best thing he could give to a couple. I will say that one thing that really impacted our physical intimacy was each of us wanting to please the other more than ourselves. Such giving is very fulfilling because the more you give, the more comes back to you. Learn to love each other even when you begin learning how flawed you both are…be humble and forgiving, and be willing to do better. Jesus wants us to follow him and keep trying to be more and more like him, so keep striving to improve the little things we do that are hurtful or disappointing. That’s true, deep love. It honors God and honors the marriage to keep improving ourselves. And give each other grace. We all mess up and need grace toward ourselves and for our spouse. (Please note: in no way am I referring to abusive behaviors, whether verbal, physical, mental, or emotional.)

I colored my hair a couple of times when I was young before I began to have silver hair. My hair at 70 is growing past my shoulders. It looks like silver threads. My sister just 5 years younger has grey hair. She has always colored her hair and straightened her hair. She finally decided to go natural. But she keeps it short and still straightens it. I have always resisted anyone who said, you should color your hair. I love the hair God has given me. I feel extremely blessed.

I play it every year. I became a believer after we got married but my husband never did. So of course I lost my faith for a long time. But now I am putting my truth back in spite of being alone in it with friends and relationships. So I agree 100% with your topic.

I was on FB a while back and a topic came up "things that are out of date today" that's not exactly the wording but its close and 1 of the things mentioned was marriage !! that you could just live together... How sad we have fallen...

Thanks to your family for these podcasts bc it really helps me with that grief. You inspire me to want to be better in my walk and relationship with Christ. For that I am thankful to each of you. Just to have something that is real is so refreshing in this day and time. We certainly won’t get it from tv! When you have the love of Christ in your heart and you have the love of your soulmate, you are able to see each other through rose colored glasses and not care what others think of your beauty. But now without him I feel less pretty. I don’t have confidence any longer. I no longer want to wear makeup. So if there is a Christian man who can wear rose colored glasses when he looks at me, that’s the one I MIGHT be interested in.

These sort of topics are necessary because engaged christian couples should discuss what they think m ,arriage should be all about. Instead, a lot of couples focus on the day of the wedding and all the preparations before it. They need to prepare for marriage, so it has a lasting chance. Good work shop Al and Lisa have going.

I’m in a huge battle with addiction, self love, and just living life by the Lord…I pray every day for a way out. I pray every day that I’ll stop drinking and a lot of days that my life will end. But, I wasn’t always like this. I know Christ and I know I was meant for more than this. This pod cast touches me in a lot of ways. I’m trying Lord, I really am. I just ask for prayers that I be delivered and live the life I was meant to live. Please pray for me. It’s hard to be this vulnerable

Lisa is 100% right-don’t even date a nonbeliever bc that is the person you will fall in love with. Don’t date anyone you wouldn’t potentially marry. Things happen!

I just did a Google search to try to find a way to buy me a couple of wild Mallard ducks that have been hunted, dressed, and frozen that could be shipped to me. Not able to find a source. If anyone has the ability to allow me to buy from a hunter please let me know! I found farm raised live ducks for sale, but not the meat I have been craving for Years! So you all consider yourselves blessed with the meat you all have access to hunt and put on your tables. My daddy was a duck hunter and it was an important part of our family holiday dinners, and something we had in our freezer when we needed them to survive. I love deer meat and quail too. Those times are over for me forever and I need to accept that. I am listening to what you all are saying...just got off track. Trust me I will listen and take in what you all are talking about! Love and blessings to you all!

I raised myself. Never spoke to about what to do or how to be just told afterwards how messed up I was. I wish I would have had this love and guidance, my life would be different.
