eeep! Going to a uni in the states, they had traditional quads (2 rooms, shared shower, then another 2 rooms) and each floor having access to a medium sized kitchen. In addition to the main dorms, there were apartments yet people were lazy af even in smaller living arrangement. Each apartment had a kitchen and 2 bedroom, 2 bath. Thus you were sharing with fewer people than the dorms. Sadly I was the only person cleaning up after I used the kitchen. Maybe if we had a dishwasher, that would have helped more but they were knuckle heads for letting the sink fill up with dirty dishes x.x Not sure I could be paid any amount of money to live like that again x.x

  • @4alise

good question! so first of all NU accepts a limited number of exchange students each semester to ensure that there's more than enough resources available (including dorms). second, when I studied abroad the Japanese borders were still closed off to many students due to covid policies, so actually a lot of the dorms stayed empty :( on my floor in particular there was only 1 other exchange student and a couple local students. I totally get where you're coming from though, thanks for bringing that up

  • @kingofbudokai

To be fair, in terms of comparing US apartments to the price of the dorm, you're paying $145/month for 1 room and a small bathroom. I pay $600 for 2 bedroom, 2 bath, a living room, a kitchen, a garage, and already provided appliances (apartment came with fridge, washer/drying, and dishwasher.) Granted, I know there are many places in the United States much more expensive than that, but what I'm saying is the value of the dorm room is highly subjective, and dependent upon where in the US you are actually from. If you're from New York, yeah, that is an absurdly low price for rent. But if you're from Tennessee or something, it's kinda average, you know? That said, there aren't really places you CAN rent for $150/month in the US, so if you're ok with the small space, the fact that that is even an option is a great thing, especially for young people.

I don't think that's the case! I chose to rent the dorm to have my own space if I needed it and have an easier way to meet other international students. But if I could go back in time I would probably save my money because I rarely ever went to the dorm haha

I think most Japanese kitchens still have gas stoves and also gas water heaters. So regardless of where one lives in Nagoya they get bills from Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.

@@willowwillow9370 Yet the kitchen is shared. How are they going to charge students when anyone in the dorms can use the gas? I also assume the hot water to the room was a central boiler and something not metered to each room.

You realize that places in dorms are limited and that not everyone who wanted to, got their room, yet you straight up admit not living there and using it as some sort of storage unit? Have thoughts of people being poorer than you and actually needing accommodation ever crossed your mind? This would have been funny if it wasn't that sad.

I find it a bit sad if its so that you must post this tour a year later because of being afraid of stalkers. (I wonder if that is a real issue like -> danger/harassment or so. But I’m not a girl so what do I know about how far guys actually go?) I followed you quite a long time (from a year before you went to Japan or so and I would guess you can say "I know a bit about you as a YT’er." But not any private information. i don't know you personally. I just watch your videos. Yet, I would not even if I tried, be able to find out your real full name or what dorm you stayed. Nor travel around the whole world unannounced. (I traveled to Greece one time for a girl. But I was in direct contact with her, we had meet the summer before. We had had a romance then. And where I grew up I think that was very bold done compared to all the guys I know. I could be wrong though.) When it comes to stalking my experience is that it is actually people you know rather than strangers. People in your social circle. Like friend of a friend, classmate, x or colleague. Not that it’s not so that you can reach out to strange people with bad manners from YT. But they must be top detectives if they gonna stalk. I would hope, as long as you keep your real name private. Address and phone private. And not tell us exactly data. Like dorm room number this or that address or so. That you will not get any trouble. Then again. You do you and I could be wrong. Anyway. Have a good day, night or whatever it is 😃
