    My university in America (University of Georgia) has a partnership with Kyushu University that allows me to enter a strenuous application process rather than taking an entrance exam. I had to meet certain criteria such as GPA, Japanese proficiency, etc. It has been an amazing experience at Kyushu University and in Fukuoka overall! I encourage you to come! If you're interested in anything here, let me know, and I am happy to answer any questions with a comment or an explanatory video! Thank you so much, and keep working hard! You can do it 💪

    I just came across your video and it's so useful for a prospective student like me. However, I know that Kyushu University does offer many dorms on Ito Campus such as dorm 1,2,3, and Ito-Kyosokan (Harmony House). Are they all the same? Or which one is the best according to you? I look up the photos of those dorms on the website but they all look quite the same. However, the rental price of them ranges from 18,500 to 25,500 yen so I believe there must be some differences. Also, may I ask whether it is easy to rent the university accommodation as they say occasionally there are not enough rooms and students may have to find private accommodation outside. Thank you in advance.

    Thank you so much for your questions! You are correct in that Kyushu University offers a number of dorms for international students that vary significantly in price. I can't speak too accurately on how different each dorm is, but perhaps in the future I might be able to tour some other rooms; I know information is scarce. However, I do know that each dorm does have noticeable differences. The size, for one, varies a significant amount. I believe the one I ended up with, Dorm 1, is the smallest and cheapest. One of the other dorms, Dorm 3, has a MUCH larger fridge and cooking area. I should have shown more detail in the fridge when touring my room, but it is quite small and does not fit much. When applying, you enter a housing preference list where you rank your choices from most to least desired. I originally wanted the largest one, which is Settle International (I think). When I got placed in Dorm 1, I was not the happiest, but I soon learned that this was possibly the BEST choice due to cost and location. At first, yes the size of the room is small, but it forced me to live efficiently, and it is something I appreciate. However, my favorite thing about this dorm is the proximity to classes. I can get to class in the morning within 5-10 minutes of me stepping out of my dorm. Settle International is a WAYS away from campus, and I believe it takes roughly 20 minutes to campus by shuttle? Don't quote me on that, but the time difference is significant. And, on top of that, I am paying super cheap rent with my American Dollars, so it makes it as if I hardly have rent at all. For those reasons alone, I say that Dorm 1 is the best. On the topic of the application, though, every international student will have a place to stay on campus as far as I know, so in that regard, I would say getting a room is easy. So long as you are part of their program, they will take care of you. However, if you plan to stay longer than 1 year, you will almost definitely need to find other accommodations nearby. From what I understand, domestic students are kicked out after their first semester here, but as international students, we are granted special permission to reside for a year as part of my program (JTW). I have been traveling Japan with my friends the past few weeks and have been unable to post on KZread, but I plan to get a video out soon about all the finances I have here as well. Hopefully that will provide more useful information to prospective students like yourself. Again, thank you so much for the questions, and please let me know if you have any more. I am happy to help!

    This is Dormitory 1. As far as I know, Dormitory 1, Dormitory 2, Dormitory 3, Settle International, and Ito Harmony House all have some kind of capacity for international students. Also, most, if not all, have full-time Japanese students as well, and lots of communal events. It's a great opportunity for making international friends!

    Hey jake, do we have to pay the rent for the dorm in monthly payments or for the whole semester at once? Is there any form of deposit involved?

  • @JakeyInJapan

    @JakeyInJapan

    11 күн бұрын

    The dorm rent is paid monthly by yourself! You can open a Japanese bank account and manually transfer it each month, or you can bike to the bank and pay it by cash! Also, there is a 30,000 yen deposit that is paid at the beginning of your stay, but you'll get it back as long as the room remains in decent condition!

  • @JakeyInJapan

    I know that Kyushu University is quite a competitive school with a high reputation, so I can definitely say there is some difficulty in getting admitted. There are many different programs that students can choose to apply for, so the acceptance rate will vary for each. I chose a year-long exchange program, so all admission processes were handled through my home university, and then I essentially just had to meet Kyushu University's requirements. I think you would have a great shot if you wanted to apply!
