Actually, it's a brilliant idea to only lock some of the door locks when you have that many. They won't know which ones are locked & which are open. They'll be opening some of them but locking the ones already open. Genius!! 😊

@@pegatheetoo1437 That is an idea if you have MANY locks. It won’t take long to check 3. That’s just probability. There is nothing fun or brilliant about potentially putting yourself in danger telling people you don’t use all of your locks, especially if you showed them all of the locks you have. It’s a legitimate safety issue that could have dire consequences. PLEASE take care of yourself. ☮️ 💜

When I lived in a paper-thin wall apartment (or just noisy), I bought some cheap duvets/quilts at a thrift shop and hung them on my walls- it's instant insulation and sound squelcher. you can hang pictures and do whatever you normally do and the colors are like having an instant paint job without all the mess.

With duvets/bedding for Japan there could be less, limited storage if a person moves and no longer has that need. Do charities there accept duvets/bedding, some countries don't due to hygiene... may then end up disposing of if can't give to someone. I believe felt curtains are quite sound insulating or their are specific products for that purpose which could be resold after. Good hack though if you already have plentiful duvets.

In general my neighbors in japan would talk at a normal level but the walls are thin so it really can’t be helped, whereas in the US I felt the walls in my apartments were much thicker. It’s a very nice place, aside from the thin walls 😂 but to answer you questions, my apartment was owned by the contracting organization so it was subsidized. And for the paperwork, an organization in the area called MAFGA helped us with all the paper work. They help all foreigners in the area, not just people coming through JET. Some people don’t have this so it was really great to have someone to come to when we needed help with things like this. If you are interested in JET definitely apply but keep in mind that I’m very fortunate in my situation. Placements have a wide range and I’ve met people who got a great location but had to live in a smaller and older space and then some people who had plenty of space but the apartment was definitely dated and the location was very far from city life. I got very lucky to be where I am. There is a very small portion of people with a newer apartment, in a location that is very accessible and within a city like area. This isn’t to tear your spirit more so help you manage expectations :) Thanks for watching! I wish you luck in applying and getting accepted if you do decide JET is the right path for you!

I wonder, where are you from? I somewhat agree with what you said. My dad and step mom would dry clothes in the sun, under the arizona heat and that would definitely bake my clothes. I liked the smell. But i tried doing that in Japan and I just don’t get the same results. The air is humid and it takes longer to dry the clothes. I just chose the shower for drying for convenience 🤷‍♀️

As a Gamer, a small cozy space is pretty ideal for me as Japan embodies that minimal design for a lot of the apartments & homes I see you & others stay in. So long as I can use a toilet, shower & bathe, have a fridge & pantry space for food, & somewhere to sleep & game, that's all my needs met. And you don't generally have the insane prices on housing like the US does, I don't think Japan has rent control, but to my knowledge it's not as much of a zero sum game with real estate & housing.

I have limited knowledge about this since I’ve only ever lived in one apartment in Japan, and this apartment has only foreign tenants, but as far as my situation goes, yes there have been complaints about noise in my apartment. Usually the noise has to be pretty loud, reoccurring, and bothersome for someone to make a complaint though. I think as long as you are making noise at reasonable hours and days you shouldn’t have any problems. What I have seen so far is noise being made past 10pm on a work night so my advice to you would be to just play on the side of caution and keep music at a reasonable volume during reasonable hours (anything after 9am and before 10pm on a weekday. You should be safe :) great question. Thanks for asking. Hope my answer was slightly helpful !

That's a lovely apartment! Very clever layout and storage solutions, nice color scheme and I would put a lot of plants in that balcony. The kitchen is a little too small for my taste, but still pretty functional compared to some microapartment kitchens out there.

Hey sweetie, in Europe the sinks do not have a disposel system either! Although there may be mainly rich or foreign people who have had this installed. I would love such a disposal but my husband is against it, and it's expensive. Your apartment is kind, what we call it, a studio (small apartment with little separations between rooms (only the Toiletroom and bathroom are separat in a studio) the bedroom very rarely. Lots of love and the best of luck from Pinkie

Most places don't have sink garbage disposals. They are actually really bad for your pipes, even though they are common in some parts of the US.

I didn’t know that. Japan is the only place I’ve ever lived abroad. Since I grew up in the US we’ve only ever had houses with a disposal. It’s crazy to me seeing the difference. I think having the net is better than the disposal though. Growing up the disposal would break or things would accidental get stuck and it’s a whole mess. Having a net is much more simple I think. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I love your apartment - my house in NZ is quite small - we live South African way of life - I also love Japanese culture.

Japanese culture is very helpful for small life styles. Is South African culture also useful for this? Since you said your apartment is small, sometimes our culture is shaped by our way of life and I am curious about other cultures 😊

Yes. It’s called a kotatsu. There are many kinds. I got a basic one for just 500 yen at a recycle shop. One of the best purchases I’ve made since being here :) very comfortable if you don’t mind sitting on the floor and definitely keeps you warm. Thanks for watching :)

I live in Germany and for almost three years I lived in a small apartment (room) of 12 square meters. The apartment had everything, a shower and a toilet, a small kitchen with a refrigerator, a wardrobe, a bed, a nightstand, a table and two chairs.

Wow a table and two chairs even. I felt chairs were not good for my small space but somehow you found a way to do it. Good for you. Small living doesn’t have to be bad living :)

Both doors open to the patio, likely, because the patio is so narrow. It makes it easier to get to both sides of the patio.
