Question: You said “ore” means guy. Would that mean OreSkaBand means guy/masculine ska band? It’s the name of an all girl ska band from Japan (and they’re pretty neat).

The functional difference between Baka, Aho and Boke is in the harshness. Aka Baka is the most common and usually first Kids will pick up. Also Common with Females. And shows bond to the one you are calling out. Meaning you care for them. Aho is more of a serious tone and its Mainly to emphasise some distancing. Like I'm not telling you this as a friend who's teasing, there's no playfulness in my words. Or if you are friends ,equivalent of taking a step back in mild disgust. Boke is more of a Primal ,village talk thus has the harshest implication . Its like You are so stupid I'm dropping all manners... Its just and intricacy of a Language that is highly Intonational.

He often would put the subtitles wrong on purposes, partially to make fun of weeaboos who pretend to understand Japanese but really just rely on the subs, lol. Part of the gag of some of his characters would be to always say the same line in Japanese, but translate it in different ways over and over.

Boke also refers to a role in manzai-style comedy, which makes it different from the other words you mentioned. The tsukkomi initiates physical contact with a slap or something when the boke does something laugh-worthy (or achieves it by inaction, like in the short scene in the video).

"Baka" and "Aho" mean two different things to me. "Baka" is more playful. For example in the dialect I speak I can say to my brother who is doing something dumb and dangerous: "Baka-mon!! Nan yaturu ke??!!" which roughly translates to "Hey dumb-*ss! What are you doing??!!" Hiroshima City and rural Hiroshima farming dialects are different. I speak the rural one. I'm not even sure if its still spoken out there anymore. My mom, brother and I are the last people in my family that can speak Japanese in this way. After I study Zuni and learn the tribal language to see for myself if there is a connection to Japanese. (Its so far pretty strong in evidence.) I'm going to start on German. I'm fascinated by language, but in a linguistic scientific sense.

I don't really know if I can give you advice, but what I can tell you is that my Japanese drastically improved once I started speaking to natives. If there aren't any Japanese people where you live download a Tandem/language exchange app and try speaking to or texting with natives every day! I promise it'll help And yeah, maybe I'll do a video on how many languages I speak and speak a couple of them!

The last sentence: 「なんか~チャリにエンジン付けようかなと思って~」(Well, I just thought If I should attach an engine to my bicycle). here, チャリ (chari) or チャリンコ (charinko) is a cute-ish informal way of calling a bicycle, mostly common among young Japanese. Moral of the story, he just wants a motorbike. Anya, I enjoyed watching your videos and your insight about Japanese language. Thank you.

Omae is actually technically quite honorific i think. I read somewhere that it goes back to the military where in the past they would adress their subordinates as "o mae" literally "my vicinity", "my in front of me" or "the space in front of me" (Kinda hard to translate) to their superiors because it would be very rude to adress them in any other way allegedly. Allegedly.

So... With Omae. It depends on the situation. Yes, it can be very rude but if you're using it with friends/close friends, it's perfectly fine. It's just another way to address someone and of course, you don't want to use it in a professional setting OR a random situation. Unless you're aruging with someone, then it's fine. But yeah, you're right about saying "you" is not as common in Japan. It's more of their last names being used. Also, Joji is half Japanese and was raised with an Osaka dialect (Kansai).
