Japanese curry is a marvelous thing. It's easy to make, requiring very little work It can be made in bulk (good for big families) it can be made with just about any combination of ingredients and it is rather cheap. get a rice cooker to make a pot of rice, and you have dinner for the family. Cheap (compared to most other things), easy, filling, delicious.

@@Chiburrotube I would guess they mean leaving it in the fridge for a while. Leaving it out would probably let the flavours blend a bit faster, but that'd also lead to random food poisoning incidents (unless there's something in the blocks of curry that is such a powerful preservative that the meat stays edible long term, which is possible I suppose). Chef tip: to level up the curry just a little, sauté your carrots with an onion and a little celery, it will add some depth. Also add a tomato before adding water, it will add a layer of richness and sweetness to the ‘stock’ Also tomato and celery both contain naturally occurring MSG so they both add a lotttttt of flavour! Also also cutting up the curry cubes into little pieces really does help it dissolve so well! And Japanese curry cubes are fairly mild so they’re good for anyone who can’t handle spice. Also Japanese curry base and basic recipe is realllllly perfect for curried sausages!

One way to up your Japanese curry game: use two different brands of curry. Each brand kinda differs from one another (one being sweeter, or stronger curry flavor, more apple forward, more umami forward, etc). You can also grate an apple or add honey or add things like apple butter if you want a more complex sweetness. Also deglaze with red wine or beef stock or both or add instant espresso or a few pieces of 80% dark chocolate for a much richer flavor. Its crazy how well they go together.

@@maryvampiregirl666 I mean it'll make a difference, but if you don't like onions then don't put it in. The great thing about curry is that you can use whatever meat and vegetables you like, and it'll basically always taste great!

The brand of curry roux you use also changes how easy it is to make! I find the brand you used (Vermont Curry) is 1) the sweetest (that's why it's my favourite ahahah) and 2) the easiest to dissolve into hot water. Golden Curry is also a popular brand, but you're better off chopping the roux into smaller cubes or even grating it before you try to mix it in.

@@doork01 there’s plenty of other roux available (kokamaru, torokeru, and java to name a few). I would check Golden Curry first, and if you want it sweet you can add your own honey and grated fuji apples :)

@@MsSuzuYuki thank you! I will definitely check them out! I’ve made my own curry roux before, it was a pain in the butt but it was 100% worth it! I wouldn’t mind having a simpler method of making curry at home though!
When my can speak Japanese dad makes Japanese curry it’s usually finished in 10 minutes because I have 1 brother and 2 sister’s so there’s usually never enough some times for everyone in my family.
I've been making this curry and rice for over 40yrs it's absolutely delicious!!! And so easy to make, i use lamb or beef stew meat as well as carrots, celery and onions in it but you can pretty much use any veggies❤ I usually sauteed the onions and meat first
This is one of my daughter's favorite go-to easy/cheap meals. Especially during testing or project time at Uni. We're lucky enough to live near several 99 Ranch stores, and many International communities here in the SF Bay Area. Lots of inexpensive and yummy grocery options.

I freaking LOVE Japanese curry. ❤️ The best part is that if you have any leftover veggies that need to be eaten before they go bad, they become delicious in curry. My favorite vegetable to throw in is cauliflower, because it soaks in the curry flavor. Yum!
Yum never thought to make it with mince
My dad made this for me once it was sooo yummy
The golden curry packet is sold at pretty much all supermarkets so it's easy for people to try.
This is what my family makes during the winter, and also when we get too much potatoes and carrots lol
My parents made this a lot in 70s and 80s with the same mix! It was medium flavor, not too hot, not boring mild…mom didn’t it with chicken, onions and carrots. LOVE it. Now I’m hankering some!
It’s really good with yellow squash
I love Japanese curry! When my friends and I make it, we like to use chicken and also add it mushrooms and onions. One time we had a spare sweet potato on hand and added that in, it was very good!

The Japanese curry recipe from Just One Cookbook is pretty good
I make it all the time! I like to add in a cup of unsweetened cinnamon apple sauce, it is sooo good. You get that hint of apple sauce and cinnamon in each bite. If I'm feeling very adventurous with it, instead of apple sauce, I would add a few squares of dark chocolate. Just a few. Sounds odd but trust the process.
for those asking how to make the cubes. buy powdered beef broth go with what the package says and add 3 tbsp of curry powder per half kilo of meat. add flour/starch (and butter) and let it simmer to thicken. prolly should add more curry tho.
ご飯がハート型に盛ってあって、カワイイ❤️
Japanese curry is sooo good! I hope more people get to try it! And if anyone has any other currys they’d like to recommend that are underrepresented I’d love to hear about it!!
that looks really good, no wonder japanese characters are always obsessing over it in manga and anime
I know this is a curry video but it did remind me of my family all working together to make good chili :3 I always cut potatoes, peppers and try to dice onions (I have very sensitive eyes so I can't stand the fumes for more than 15 seconds) Mom handles the meat and dad mixes everything into a slow cooker with some gravy. Leave it for like a whole day and she smells gorgeous 😘👌

If you wanna make it from scratch it's a bit harder but I'll give you a recipe. Fry a couple onions once soft and browned make a roux with a fat and flour about 75g of flour to 100g of butter, toast the roux, add 4 tbsp of curry powder 1 tbsp garam masala, add some tomato paste cook it down a bit, now add stock until it's your desired thickness, add some honey to taste, a couple nice pinches of msg and a couple tablespoons of soy sauce.

I do chicken in my Japanese curry, or I'll marinate tofu overnight and then fry it up and add it on top (it falls apart in the sauce otherwise). For veggies, I really like adding broccoli and I'll even add in some diced apple. I also add a touch of cocoa powder for a little more depth and shichimi togarashi for a little spice! I usually have a little side of goma ae (spinach salad with sesame dressing) for extra nutrients. ❤️
My bf absolutely loves Japanese curry. Now I just gotta have him over and make
I do this too. I make a huge pot of curry that I used to eat as a kid from my grandma's work with rice until its gone. So freaking good. Its call hawaiian beef stew curry, really easy to throw together and it makes enough for days.
