Japan's Top Tuner Was Arrested
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Want to drive a Skyline like Smokey's? You can find one here: www.autotempest.com/s/cLq8Gy
Smokey Nagata is one of the most infamous tuners to ever come out of Japan. Part of that is because of the insane cars he's built, and part of it is thanks to the ridiculously dangerous, very illegal top-speed runs that he's done over the years. One of which went down in history as one the craziest stunts on UK highways ever.

He had the nickname "Smokey" prior to his visit to England, the nickname comes from the fact that he constantly has a burning cigarette in his hand, whether he's working on a car or racing a car he's always smoking. I know this for an absolute fact because I knew him as "smokey" before he ever went to England!

in 2017 the V12 Supra was sold at auction and smokey only got around 70,000 for it after fees. He used the money to help fund a white R35 GTR he was building at the time. A lot of people asked him "Why did you sell such an iconic car for so cheap, isn't it worth 500,000 to you?" Most of the older Japanese generation disagree. These cars were built to be driven, used, abused, and loved. They weren't built to sit in a garage as a trophy. I feel like this is something that western audiences will never fully understand.

Stuff like this is so insane to me. Even in subjects I'm not into as far as being a devoted fan, just looking at people lay out their prized builds whether it be cars, general machines and robots, or sculptures and paintings. Insane seeing people getting to personal spots where they're like "Okay this is one of my greats" and sharing them for others to experience always gets me hype and interested. I don't understand the technical parts but I can instantly feel these builds are a marvel to look at. So cool and so good man

I lived in Japan during the Smokey era, it wasn’t uncommon to see him shooting down the Joban like a UFO on a Saturday night. The Smokey days were the best car scene and vibe Tokyo ever had. Those were the days, it would be nice to have a good car scene in the US, but people a lot of times aren’t civil with each other, folks get jealous and mouth off or start fights. Just too problematic for my taste.

Back then in the UK Max Power mag did a little road trip to Japan to feature some tuners and scene back in the late 90's and it was featured on a VHS tape with the mag. Overnight we went from domestic & euro models to importing Japanese cars by the thousands, Smokey was part of that legacy. Now we're selling them to America for 10 times what we paid, so it worked out ok.
Amazingly smooth, enthusiastic, educated documentary.

Great production 👏 👌
Wow i dont know anything about cars or JDM scene but i randomly clicked this video since it was recommended, and wow i somehow watched all 20 minutes of it in fascination. What an amazing documentary, this shows what a great producer and storyteller you are, i hope your channel continues to blow up more and receive the attention it deserves. I mean, even that Opera ad was high quality lmao, it was actually funny and effective.
Just wanna say congratulations to Albon on this video goin viral blowin up! Currently at 2.65 mil views!! Real top quality channel, fantastic content. Keep on keepin on!!
for a car person for myself honestly, back in 2016 i used to be a car & anime editor back on, Vine years ago.. i started to be a car person more and more cuz of the car edits i’ve been seeing, plus the year is 2021 (aka. last year) then i saw Smokey himself on tiktok, i’ve been wondering this man was so i started to do some research on this street racer! for younger car people, i have a feeling that half of the car community knows who he is cuz of the JDM car community, plus i’m very happy to apart from it and someday i will make my own dream build i’ve been wanting to do for years, like ever since 2016 where i’ve been starting to learn about cars.. :D aaaaaaaa . . PSA: Smokey is the God-Father of speed i heard too btw !
Love that 3sGTE swapped Supra!! 18:04 That one gives me the Castrol GT500 JGTC Supra vibes!!! Perfect engine for time attack racing!!! Balanced and responsive as well!!!
This was a really interesting mini-doc. Really enjoyed the video!
if your old like me you remember these cars setting the standard for crazy. the V12 supra and the v35 skyline he built are my 2 favorite. i love how me made different stuff and they had a unique look a unique engine and the power to really set the bar super high. this dude just shut everything down when he pulled up but he seems so humble all the time. seeing him cruising the Highways and lurking in parking areas back in the early 2000s would have been a treat! thanks to people like Option video for capturing those moments.
