The one thing I ask for from this whole situation is that I truly want this Superman to be the most idealized version of the character we’ve ever gotten in live action in terms of looks, personality, and values. I think that Is going to be one of the biggest ways this movie and all other DC films become a gigantic win for audiences and the box office.

Imo the very thing that makes Superman special is his strong unwavering ideals, a lot like Captain America. What makes him special isn't his power, it's how he makes the people around him better and shines as a beacon for people around the world.

Gunn writing this shows accountability/responsibility. Prioritized content written by the top writer sounds like Gold.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Blue Beetle may be retrofitted to be the first film in this new universe. If it is a good movie and standalone enough, any DCEU references can be removed to make it work. Unlike other projects, Gunn posted the poster on social media. Blue Beetle also seems like his type of character.

Crazy how James Gunn is writing a Superman movie, since Warner Bros. originally wanted him to helm a Superman movie before Gunn did The Suicide Squad.

I want to see Clark Kent as a capable reporter. The DCEU was horsesh*t and deserved to get rebooted. The good films in that series were Wonder Woman, The Suicide Squad (2021), Birds of Prey and Shazam. The rest was subpar nonsense.

What I want from a new DCU: 1. Real environments less greenscreen 2. More focus on the dual nature of each hero 3. Less bulky Batman, a Batman who looks like a martial artist/gymnastic 4. A less grotesque joker, a joker who looks classy but is a complete psycho with clown makeup or white skin.. not scarred up or horribly messed up kind of like joker from the Batman animated series or Gotham.. 4. A proper fortress of Solitude 5. A strong bond and friendship with Clark and Bruce 6. A real smartass flash 7. Costumes that st don't look plasticy and bulky 8. And most important for fans to just enjoy the new DCU

Problem is that was 10 yrs ago at this point and time has been wasted ...I don't want the reboot but it does make sense. Sounds like this movie will be exactly like a direct follow up to where Superman was at in life at the end of Man of Steel

If they want to start big..They should film Superman, Batman and Wonder woman at the same time and release all 3 in the same year a few months apart....promote the heck out of the 3 actors and push DC trinity.

I like the idea of starting out the new Superman where he is just hired at the Daily Planet and he has to learn how to balance being a reporter and Superman. Like the very first scene is Clark Kent going to a job interview at the Daily Planet and is about to be late. But then something tragic happens in the city and he has to save the day. He makes it to the Daily Planet just in time to the job interview and he's meeting Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen for the first time and everyone is talking about this mysterious flying man who just saved the day.

well its not a new thing :) Smallville is about it. First half is his high school. He becomes Superman in season 9, but his costume is not fully ready yet.

They better stay away from The Death of Superman story for a long time. I mean 10-15+ years minimum.

It will sting in the short-term, but I trust Gunn for now. Too many people writing off this new DCEU without even seeing a piece of concept art. 😂 And who’s to say Henry won’t return in a multiverse type of story someday? Heck, Keaton’s back in a Flash movie. Full disclosure, I’m not a huge fan of Snyder’s DC movies, but I always thought that Cavill was a great piece of casting!

It’s a great move and all it’s about is the villain and the setups for other characters like Steel Supergirl and Superboy

Sounds like it will be similar to the 2020 Superman Man of Tomorrow movie. That movie was fantastic. Hopefully it can have action scenes as good as that Lobo vs Superman fight

As a guy in his early 20s right now, I honestly hope Superman doesn't look like he's around my age. I hope they don't go that young.

I think the best movie for all DC entries is a Year One or Year Two. And if there's one character I want on my wish list is, Scott Free, the Miracle Man without the New Gods reference until the end of the second movie

That's the problem. They're trying to make "ten year plan" while they should focus on making A good movie. I'm a bit tired of having my movie theater being full of TV shows calling themselves movies while having real movies (like Blonde, for example) being released on streaming. It's an upside down world. That's our world, it is what it is. But I don't have to like it.

What difference does it make to have a young Superman, if you get someone in there 30's ,by the time the next film is made he'll be 45.

JL movies are the way to go. The assembly movies should be the saviour of DC.

If Gunn doesn’t direct, then I wouldn’t mind the guy who made The Menu, that I feel would be a decent fit given Gunn’s style of writing

This Superman movie could be like the Batman movie where it’s Superman in his younger days who’s inexperienced and is still trying to figure out who he is and what he’s standing for.

It makes a lot of sense for Gunn to write and direct a new Superman movie to start the new DC slate. I really hope they focus on him being a great rooky journalist as well as a Superhero. None of the past Superman films have really shown that Clark is a great journalist. That role has always been relegated to Lois. Cavill's Clark was honestly a pretty rotten journalist in BvS, which is the only time we see him doing any journalism. I am also genuinely curious about Batman in the new slate. If Reeves Batman is separate, as confirmed by Gunn, then are they going to have a second young Batman in his early years running side by side with Superman. I agree with Rob that for the sake of the universe's longevity, you need them to be contemporaries. That was always one of my issues with having an older Batman in Affleck. But how do you avoid the comparisons with Matt Reeves's version then. You would really need to have a very different version of the character.

I support the decision 100%. This was long overdue.

The only thing I ask for in a new Superman movie is to not have the stupid "Lois friend-zones Clark because she is in love with Superman" "love-triangle". The newer stories ("Man of Steel", "Superman & Lois") are better because Lois knows Clark is Superman.

Everybody here is throwing their toys out of the pram because they're not getting a Snyder MoS continuation. Yup I'm gutted for Henry too - but watch the whole damn video folks. Everyone threw their toys out of the pram when it was revealed Daniel Craig would play 007...and then what happened?...Personally I'm excited for the next generation of DC.

What I think would be great is that the entire movie universe should be intertwined stories which may focus on the stories of a singular story arc that involves the entire universe for an overarching event ie doomsday clock or the Batman who laughs

Superman, as a character and the comics (I believe), tone seemed to me (and how i interpret the comics) set by Superman. If I am recalling this correctly, when the comics introduced Dr Manhattan into the DC Universe, he mentioned something to that effect about Superman as a character or being in the DC Comics Universe. What I am wondering about is if the plan to make a "younger" years Superman is going to be in line with the New 52 concept of DC Comics? Because that didn't work as much (as a whole) and they are rebooting it presently right? Part of me still wonder why they couldn't use Henry Cavill in the reboot? That could have been explained as being a new universe with some similar actors. Multiverse has been introduced in various shows/series and even comics movies by Marvel so I still don't really see it yet, why an older actor like Cavill (who looks younger than his actual age) can't continue on being Superman? I get Ben Affleck not reprising his role as he really is older than Cavill. I do wonder about the announcements early next year. No idea how it will pan out.

If they go back just a little younger, that would be fine, but nothing high school and below, Smallville did that… Speaking of maybe cast Tom Welling as the younger Superman

I like what Rob said about George Reeves....he is my favorite Superman....I would love to see that type of Superman!!!

Batman & Superman are really the only DC characters I like seeing on the big screen. I am looking forward to the Flash movie in 2023 though. Batman is the dark hero, Superman is the light.

The one thing they nailed was the casting of the heroes. (The ones we had more screentime of at last, Flash and Cyborg are debatable) This new start will be an uphill battle. I'm not interested in a younger group, but perhaps they will make something special. I doubt it and at the moment my frustration is stronger than my hope, but we will see.

@@joey9216 it should be i won't disagree. But it was WB that botched the whole thing from the conception. Cavill was not at fault. As far as golden goose is concerned, the only other big franchise Henry has headlined is the Witcher, which is one of the most viewed shows on Netflix.

They had to many scheduling conflicts with their own work. Sometimes therre were days when neither one could show up, which defeated the purpose of having a Host for every episode, which is why he hired 2 people, so there would always be 1 available, John decided to put the idea on hold till he can find someone that can make the commitment.

I think this is a big risk if the movie isn't good/great that it for their planned universe. If they keep Cavill the parameter would be lower and if a Cavill movie was at least good it would be a win and swift the perspective for the past DC movies.

Getting Cavill back was the better option.

I like the idea of Gunn directing, but here’s the thing. Gunn has a lot on his plate, juggling the story and guiding the ship. These first four years are important and can’t go bad. He needs to focused. Can he do that while focused on Superman movie?

My main worry... the new DCU's tone being too "quirky", if that makes any sense. Gunn's recent track record, GOTG, The SS, The Peacemaker says it all. Like everyone, I hope he proves me wrong. Only time will tell...

I would agree, however not every DC movie will have his directing style because he's not directing every movie. Looking at the MCU, the tone for Thor Ragnarok is vastly different from the winter soldier

It was straight out of John Byrne's Man of Steel#1 where Clark was traveling around trying to find answers about himself and saving people secretly for years. Compare that to Reeve, who spent 12 years in the Fortress of Solitude traveling through space and time with Jor-El learning about the 28 known galaxies. 12 years of not saving anyone

They only did it to try and get people to see Black Adam and it didn't even work.

After the initial shock, I'm sure down with this. The only way we could have kept a remnant of the snyderverse and still start fresh is if they had gone with Gen2.. the Super sons, Teen Titans, etc. If Superman has a less divisive redux, we're in for a good 2 decades of the DCU

I have to agree with John here. I love the DCEU but the mistakes of the past plus a couple of things beyond their control have left it so flawed and broken that this is the best option- nuclear. So this means Shazam, The Flash, and Aquaman 2 will now presumably be the final chapters. One question I have though is what becomes of Peacemaker. Will Gunn sacrifice this as well or try to figure out a way to preserve it within this new framework? That show was very good and entertaining, it'd be a shame if it had to go too

This new film could essentially be the sequel to Man Of Steel that we always wanted. Sure, we’ll miss Henry with the recast. But where did Man Of Steel end? Clark’s first day on the job at The Planet. So a new movie featuring young Clark finding his feet with a new job in a new City sounds exactly like something we potentially would have gotten had the SnyderVerse played out. I’m excited for clean slate approach.

The future Superman films should be filled with hope🌞😇 AAANNNDDD optimism🌝❤🐤⚘️ just like the Christopher Reeve Superman films. For example.....Reeve's Superman choked his evil twin to death in Superman 3. He killed Nuclear Man in Superman 4. He took Zod 's powers away, made him human, broke every bone in his hand, then threw him against the walls of the Fortress of Solitude as he sank to his icy grave in Superman 2's theatrical version. Critics didn't complain, and whine about Superman killing back then.🧐 We need more hope like when Reeve's Superman gave up being a hero in his second film, took away his own powers so he could sleep with Lois. I especially loved when he went to the diner at the end of Superman 2, and beat up a human truck driver when he got his powers back. He broke a pinball machine with that trucker's head🤕. I loved when Reeve's Superman peeked through Lois' blouse and said "it's pink" in reference to her underwear. Not awkward at all if you brought your child to see the film or watch it with them on TV. Nothing fills me with more hope & optimism than watching Superman smile at the camera as John Williams theme plays even though 7 minutes prior to that I watched Lois sinking into the Earth while being crushed within her car as her mouth filled with dirt during her horrific death scene.

I think the question for me is how are they going to attract talent - directors, actors, writers - to this fractured/messy franchise? I can understand wanting a clean slate, but the way they are cleaning house is already messy, and who’s gonna want to walk into that? Not to mention they are planning ANOTHER Superman movie with a new Superman. I think the character (in the movies) has been as badly handled as the Hulk was over at Marvel, if not worse. DC/Warner can’t seem to get these characters right. They’re treated with a certain triviality which makes the studios feel it’s ok to just change things up every few years. And now they want to do a younger Superman? Every TV show did that already. No one had ever done a younger Batman which is why it was a fresh take. But that take on Superman has been done. I also wasn’t a particular fan of Gunn’s Suicide Squad, or Peacemaker, and if that’s the style and tone they are going to bring over to DC as a whole, I’m not going to be jumping up and down for that either. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@BaithNa I think “beloved” status for anyone in Hollywood is largely based on performance, and can quickly fall by the wayside. I can think of any number of directors who had “beloved” or “media darling“ status who’ve now fallen from that pedestal. My point isn’t even about Gunn so much as the franchise and rabid fans who’d rather “watch the world burn” than accept something new. Also a lot of actors and writers and directors have been getting burned at WB/DC lately, so why take a chance on becoming another casualty/statistic when there is work elsewhere? For the chance to work with Gunn? Pffft. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A lot of people want James Gunn fired over this. He better not fail with that first Superman movie.

And even the people who hate Snyder don't realize how bad the Snyderverse would become if he remained with it. As much as I hate to admit it, he created something good, that would remain good and get better only if Snyder stays away from it. I like James Gunn, but I hate this move enough for him to be fired over it.

I can’t think of a man in the business who has been screwed over more times and as badly than Henry Cavill! On top of losing Superman he has also lost another dream job in The Witcher! I actually think it is HENRY and his miserable management. They screwed themselves over. Thank God for a full reboot.

The only two actors that I have in mind for Superman other than Henry Cavill are David Corenswett and Jacob Elordi

Trey Tucker at age 33 is close to Pattinson 30+ old Batman. I like Jacob but I think he's a bit too young at 25. David is 29 and has played older.

@@johansvensson833 your right I dint think about that. It will like only start filming this time next year. Trey and David have more of a farm grown vibe. Jacob is a little to polished. I kinda like him as a young Bruce in the Todd Phillips universe.

Gunn is alienating the fans. He should have created a Criss on Infinite Earth type of event to bring DCEU & DCU together. There's no point in watching Aquaman 2, Shazam 2 & Flash now. And it's not like anything that Gunn and Safran have done for WB have been successful comercially. Suicide Squad was critically acclaimed, but it flopped at the box office, Shazam was just a moderate success. If he really wants to build the DCU for the next decade, he could have kept Cavill as he will only be in his late 40s by the the end the decade.

Safran did Aquaman. The most commercially successful movie of DCEU. Reboot is the best way to go

Obviously the best option for everyone would have been henry returning and James writing, but still having james gunn writing a superman film is pretty fucking great and a huge win in my opinion

Honestly this video discussion has insured my faith in “ G&P” ‘s decisions. I needed the 24 hrs to mourn Henry’s Superman, knowing his connection to the character. It’s Time for DC to shine!

For superman and batman I get how they can do them without the origin but idk how they're gonna reboot wonder woman since skipping the origin means they'd probably have to have her arrival into the world of men in modern times.

Well given the removal if Henry Caville thus is a movie you can't fuck up. All the pressure is and should be on Gunn. As someone who was excited for Caville as Superman again it's gonna take an amazing and or great reviews for me to see it.

I was hyped when I saw the end Credits for Black Adam. My assumption was that he was back and Man of Steel 2 was a go!!! How wrong I (we) were!!!

I have nearly went through all stages of grief over this. Not acceptance yet, which depends on who they pick to play Superman. You pick the wrong actor then you’re dead in the water!

Man of Steel 2 would be golden

Would love to have an off-planet Superman adventure film. Minimum amount of time on earth. Minimal time as Clark Kent. Minimal time with Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane. Henry Cavill is perfect for Superman now that he’s a little bit older. Would love to see him battling Lobo in a space adventure.

I’m fine with a younger Superman as long as they don’t go *too young* Like I don’t wanna see an 18 or 19 year old Clark Kent, to me Superman is a character where it just feels weird if you give him a “New kid on the block” type of portrayal, a character like Superman needs to have some miles on him, that said I think if you went with like a 25 or 26 year old Superman that could work, because in my eyes 25 is when you officially shed your young adult skin and become a legit adult, so that’d be a good middle ground because he’d be *just young enough* to where I think it could still fit in with the type of portrayal they’re going for but at the same time he’d still be old enough to be a believable Superman

What non-superhero movies has Gunn made that were great? Honestly, I've only seen his superhero movies & I'm not so sure I like the tone of those movies for the DCEU. I mean it worked for GOTG & his SS, but I wouldn't want that for a majority of the DCEU heroes. At least he has a plan though, rather than the past DCEU writers.

It's not an origin story, they know people know it already. Superman has been an icon way before Smallville. This is a blockbuster franchise we're talking about.

...which is a tv show and not a film, genius. The only Superman origin stories on film are Superman and Man of Steel.

Mid credits scene Superman flying through the air and is hit with a Kryptonite bullet. Bloodsport: Faster than a speeding bullet my a- Scene cut.

We will see but what a shame
