I don't think he gets it. He probably hired some firm to help rebrand and refocus and they came in and saw how he rose in popularity bc he connected with folks his age at the time. They see a bubbly outlandish personality.

I’m gonna be honest just because a company declares bankruptcy doesn’t mean they’ll close all stores. That’s the difference between Ch 9 and Ch 11 bankruptcy in the US. Morphe has the opportunity to restructure while still operating and selling products

I was about to comment the same thing, but didn’t know if it applied in the same way in U.S law as it does in Swedish law (I am swedish btw), but it’s the same principle here! Reconstruction means, according to Swedish law, that the company is protected against bankruptcy and foreclosure in order to have the opportunity to reorganize and build up its business. You are also obliged to hand in an application to the district court whom will provide a reconstructor upon accordance if they deem it acceptable.

I’m sorry but that girl who stained her face pink by using red eyeshadow is at fault. I understand that she clearly didn’t realise some pigments will stain but that’s still not on James or whatever brand of makeup she used. A lot of people make that same mistake but because she used a James Charles palette there is already controversy alongside it. I hope she didn’t have to go outside the next day 😭 I would be using my tears to scrub that off

the article said 'sources say' thats just tabloid journalism for 'someone has a theory and I have no credible sources'. the interest in make up has massively lowered. I'm sure cancellations were a factor but a lot of people don't follow the internet drama or the beauty guru space. people (like me) who are hyper aware of it are stuck in this echo chamber bubble where we assume everyone else who shops at morphe knows about James Charles. Cancelling doesn't exist, it just doesn't stick long enough for the attention span of the internet.

I was thinking the same thing. Morphe was always really dependent of youtubers and their audiences, fr I knew Morphe existed because Jeffree Star talked about it in 2016. But with the pandemic and the fall of beauty youtube the audience just moved to tiktok and there's so many makeup brands now over there that even if they tried to stay relevant with girls like the Damelio's people just got bored of them. Sad but honestly I saw that coming

I think Morphe made a huge mistake cutting Jeffree off. Yes most people don't like him but i can't tell you how many videos of his products I've come across on tiktok with most of the comments being something like "i know he's problematic but his products are so good" His products still sell for that reason. So I'm not really surprised that it not going all that well for Morphe.

So this is a fight that I have with my sister often. I still purchase from Jeffree star for the sole reason that his products are good. My sister thinks he’s a horrible person and should have no redemption and people should cancel him and get over it and calls me out on it. Yes I agree he’s done messed up things but at the same time he makes GOOD eyeshadows and smoking products.

It was so hard when he got cancelled but i truely believe we all have done or said something cancellable at some point and we shouldn't cancel someone forever over a moments mistake. In the 2000's the world was no where near as touchy as it is now. He has evolved into a much more wholesome person over the years and like you said theres no doubt his products are good quality.

I kinda hate that I still love the quality of his products because I don’t want to support him, but at the same time his liquid lipsticks have some of my favourite shades ever and I’m running out 🥲

I honestly feel that Morphe folding, is partially on them. I always felt that they pretty much lived off hype and popular people selling them to their audience…and just not on quality. Even at the best of times, the makeup they produced, even for makeup influencers who supposedly really knew their stuff, was very ‘meh’. It meant that without the constant hype, they didn’t have a leg to stand on. Their own range was usually filled with recycled colours and mediocre brushes. Of course, the beauty influencer situation, as well as the pandemic, had their part to play, but in the end - if you don’t have a quality product, then as soon as the fluff goes and the market constricts, you are screwed. To me, JS is actually a great example of being able to keep things going just through quality. His products sell, because they are good - not because anyone likes the name behind the brand. James Charles wanting to pivot to kid contents just makes me horribly uncomfortable. I can see why he does it, as that seems to be one of the best ways of making money on the platform right now, but it is still horrendously uncomfortable. Honestly, I don’t understand how he is still there at all. Dawson made some weird edgelord contents ages ago, but never hit on an actual minor, yet he is dead as a doornail, while Mister Sister now targets kids on his channel while living off the proceeds, despite repeatedly doing just that, including nudes etc. Someone make it make sense.

With the pandemic I kinda just… stopped wearing makeup. Like entirely. And then kinda didn’t start wearing it again? Which seems crazy but I actually have a lot of friends who opt for no makeup while not necessarily bankrupting themselves on skincare. I’ve always got a few zits and dark circles but oh well. It’s crazy to think about how obsessed we were with those palettes a few years ago, ya know? Like damn morphe owned our asses back then. Anyways great vid as always.

Morphe used to be a “decent” brand. I’ll never forget, here in Canada we had to get palettes from Showcase and they were ALWAYS SOLD OUT.

As far as the Morphe bankruptcy, I’m glad. They’ve supported a lot of problematic people (even though some have seemed to have taken steps to improve) and I personally stopped using their products because of it. The products coming out since then aren’t that interesting to me so it’s not a big deal to me!

Is anyone else confused asf by James Charles video "explaining" why the pinks, purple and red eyeshadows stains your eyelids or face like a lot of other eyeshadows pallettes don't. He explains how they're made and FDA approved but never the whole reason as to why it stains?? I have his pallette and I love using it but I try to stay away from certain colours to avoid staining.

Just put foundation/primer underneath and you are usually good. It stains, because the pigments are so vivid and the artificial manufacturers, haven’t figured out how to make it not do that. They use dye to avoid using crushed beetles and dye notoriously stains. You usually don’t get that effect in ‘creamy’ eyeshadows (labelled eyeshadow), as they contain a number of ingredients to get that consistency, but the ones labelled pigment or artist pallet, will usually just be pressed pigments - making them gorgeous and vivid, but also pretty potent.

Yeah it’s anything labeled as a “pressed pigment” (rather than, technically, eyeshadow), and particularly colors with red in them. I really don’t think it’s unsafe in any significant way though; just staining. Based on my experiences it doesn’t last long.

controversy around james aside, eventually ALL youtubers change their content to younger fans. not for a predatory reason or to recreate themselves but because New fans of makeup tend to be young, experienced and trying new things and need a Guru. youre not gonna get alot of news fans from an old crowd and anyone who was already a fan either has all your stuff, no longer supports you, or grew out of using makeup post-pandemic where skincare is on the rise and makeup is falling out of favor. even regular YT channels that are not makeup related eventually begin to target younger audiances since thats really the only way to make new fans. if youre not adjusting to the times then you eventually fall out
