This popped up in my 'feed' because I had just watched a vid on changing the oil on a 99 XK8. Wow, what a difference 11 years makes. Two nearly completely different processes. As for Jags in general, I own an 03 XKR and I love it.

Dave just a quick note to say thank you; saves driving 2 hours for an oil change and paying $400, which just doesn’t make sense to me. Definitely gonna go the vacuum route like you did. Great video!!! Jason ~2011 XKR

I'd add a little guidance about resetting service mode... After you turn ON the electronics, you have 3 SECONDS to: 1) release fog button, hit and hold button thingy on turn signal + hit and hold fog light button.

I like your style - the suction method is alright; I much prefer how gravity lets me extract all residue and soot, but that’s just me. Good vid. Cheers.

Generally, yes. Two things tho - first, get a battery tender. These things have gremlins and WILL drain the battery even if you drive it but only on short trips. My wife can drive it one day, and then I have to jump it the next if it hasn't been on the tender. Second - the AirCon condensate drain "duckbill" has a tendency to clog, and it will soak the passenger floorboard and possibly fry your blower fan. I actually have footage of my repair, and it requires lowering the transmission (there is another way with a razor blade on a stick, but I have short fat arms). One day I'll get that video out. If you're in Canada and don't need AC then you might be alright. lol

@@PoweredByDave1 I might try to stab the thing soon, transmission drop is too much but i hope i’m not too fat for it, my main other annoyance is a whistling sound

Although not quite as fast, the pre 2010 XKs with the 4.2 are much more reliable engines than the 5.0s

The "WSS M2C925-A vs WSS M2C945-A" debate rages. How did you determine that WSS M2C945-A is suitable to replace WSS M2C925-A oil? I want to believe you. My manual says to use WSS M2C925-A, and I cannot find tech specs for it.

I've just contacted the main Castrol distributor in the UK and they advise using Castrol EDGE Professional 0w-20 for the Jaguar 5.0L V8 engine variants.

Sucking the oil out is probably the worst thing you can do.All the crap and metal shards are now left in the sump.

  • @PoweredByDave1

There is no drain plug on this engine. It’s the only way unless you want to remove the pan. I mean there shouldn’t be any metal shards in the pan. If there are your engine is already toast!

@@PoweredByDave1 Maybe the American spec XKR is different to the U/K spec but my 2012 XKR has a oil drain plug and I only have 4 bolts and a couple of nuts to undo and the plastic undertray drops right down giving great access to the drain plug, I personally don't like to suck the old oil out, prefer to drain it out in the old-fashion way.
