Another good one Paul, an excellent series of informative videos. Did my own XKR 5.0 diff oil change. The good news was there is a drain plug on the LSD on the XKR. The bad news is the fill plug is 30mm away from a chassis member. Ended up having to make a tool to remove - its a 8mm hex for those doing the same job. Oil is Castrol BOT 720 (1.3L).

Hii, that procedure was clearly shown. I bought a 2008 XKR two years ago with 59000 miles. Same color as yours It has complete service history, but like you for peace of mind had the transmission oil and filter changed, diff oil changed, coolant and thermostat and the two coolant hoses that lie in the valley under the super charger changed. I am in Australia and like to see the coolant temp so installed an Autool X60 OBD meter mounted between the steering wheel and instrument cluster on two sided tape. Its a 50mm round display so unobtrusive.

I like the idea of a temp gauge might need to look into that 👍

If you had gone for a drive and warmed up the diff oil it may have been easier to suck out as i have done on two Volvo D6 marine engines where i used the same oil extrator pump. By running the engines to about 50 degrees the oil came out very easily. Good clip . I'm going to have my diff oil done now 75000 miles.

Thanks for your experience and advice. I have a major service due on my 12 year old XK. It's only done 38,000 but Jaguar main dealer recommending the service is done to 150,000 specs so replacing cam belt as a precaution. I feel confident in changing the diff oil myself as there is something satisfying about being able to do these sort of jobs on relatively modern cars nowadays.

Hi Steve, your car will be on a timing chain (not cambelt) maybe they are referring to the auxiliary belt ( serpentine belt) good to hear you are going to do some jobs yourself

@@life_on_cars You're right (of course) slip of the tongue. I replaced the brake discs and pads at 35k miles and refurbed the calipers while I was at it.

@@life_on_cars I have already commented this once but it dissapareed - I've done more research into the ZF 6HP26 and you can but a whole kit including "Sump, ZF 6 Fluid, connector sleeve, Seal, and sleeve seals" for £280. Since you'vee already drained the transmission it's advised to do this as preventative maintenance as thee square seal is known to crack and as you already have access to the mechnotronic unit you might as well. The parts should come with a sheet showing torque amount and pattern for both the sump and the mechnotronic block. There isn't a lot of videos on jaguars however there is a couple good ones on BMW with thee ZF 6HP26 installed. If you'd like some more resources nearer to the time just reply to this and I could send them across or something. Thanks again.

I did the diff oil on our 2006 XK 4.2 over Christmas. It had done only done 70k miles but the oil wasn't too bad. Ours has an open diff as limited slip diffs are unusual on the XK. I'm not even sure that it was a factory option on the early models but I think a Quaife LSD could be retrofitted. Is that what yours has as I see that you have used LSD oil.

  • @life_on_cars

@@life_on_cars The spec oil in the Jaguar workshop manual for the XK is M2C 192A Synthetic. This oil does not have any LSD additives. I'm sure that using an LSD oil won't do any harm but I preferred to use the recommended stuff.

Hi Guys! Will you give me advice please! I have an little oil leak from under the timing chain cover (xkr x150 4.2). Mechanic says to replace timing chain cover gasket. Do I need to take out the engine? And do I need to disconnect the supercharger? Thanks in advance!

I've got a leaking rear differential/driveshaft seal on my X150 XKR Portfolio. I booked it in and took it to Jaguar Pentland in Perth, to have it replaced, but they called later that day and said that they had a seal for an XK, and the XKR one was discontinued, and if the XK one didn't fit and then they couldn't do the job because they wouldn't replace the old one and I'd then need to have the car towed... I said no to the job and just picked it up. I believed that the whole differential is the same for each model, so it should be the same seal if it is... You'd think that they would know for sure but they seemed completely useless to be honest, they don't really deal with Jaguar sales, mostly Land Rover despite them claiming that they're a Jaguar service center! Do you know anything about the seal on the driveshaft of the XK v XKR? Great info here by the way, I found your video because it might be a case of clean up and top up for me until I can find a solution!
