Jaguar XF - Washer jet fix - AGAIN !!! and now it WORKS
I created a vlog of a fix for the screen washer jets for a Jaguar XF. Over the past year the washer has been getting weaker and weaker out of the washer jets. So I thought maybe the pump is failing, so I ordered a new pump and new non return valve.
The fix is at the end, the vlog shows how to get access to washer pump and repair.

Just wanted to say thanks for making this video! I just fixed the same issue on my XF this morning, your vid was a great help in showing me how to get access to the washer pump. In my case the T-piece was ok, it was the pump that had failed. I also took the opportunity to flush out the gunk from the washer tank and the hoses while I had it all apart. Anyway - cheers!

Many thanks for this video, I had the same problem and it was the diaphragm exactly the same as yours, which saved me massive amount of time not having to take the wheel off and the washer pump. Thank you. I now have to find the solution to my Headlight washer jets not working......

You're welcome! This is separate circuit and pump I think, the jets pop out under the water pressure. Not looked that, but it might be a bumper off job. Check out my headlight repair as I take the driver side of the bumper off to get to the out headlight, so that might help you out.

10:33 I had the same problem with very low output from windscreen washers - tried replacing the warped diaphragm with a cut down bike inner tube patch, but it was too thick. So after some searching I found a piece of pond liner - not sure of thickness, but probably 0.5mm. Cut to size, fitted it all back together and hey presto I now have good flow through the windscreen washers for the first time. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice. Having blown the system through from the pump and fitting new jets, I finally got to removing & checking the T piece. The diaphragm was very like the one you show. Not having a new one, I binned it & fitted just the spring & plunger. My washer now works better than it ever has. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem

Hi Brian, I'm sure it will ! I tried this on mine but found the water jet took couple of pushes and also was lowish pressure. Having the diaphragm seemed to help this by holding the water at the T piece junction. But great comment and I'm sure will help out others :)

Once found, removed and stripped down, my seal was exaclty like yours. I fixed mine with a 0.75 mm thick piece of rubber sheet i had around. It works perfectly now. Thanks.

Axle stand (jackstand) anti-slip / grips have been removed. Better than scissor jack only, but not safe. Once any car is in the air, rock it back and forth and side to side, it should not fall. If you feel like it would be silly to even try rocking the car - you have your reason why the setup is unsafe. :) Also it's a good habit to always place the removed wheel under the sill as a secondary. Stay safe youtube.

I could not raise the car enough to use the "grips", if modern cars had proper jacks supplied, but they don't as there no such thing as a spare Tyre these days with them, then I might have got the height I needed. All the others wheels were blocked so it would not move and the axle stand had the weight of the car on it plus the Jack was still in place. As i was not working on anything which required rigorous actions to prepare or work on it was sufficient for this minor work. Agree a Scissor jack it NOT safe on it's own to carry out this work, and probably not even to change a tyre.

While you had the pump out it would have been a good idea to fit a capillary break in the wiring to prevent the known problem of water leaking from pump and travelling down wiring and causing damage to wiring loom and ECU. Capillary break cost a few pence , replacement loom/ repair cost upwards of £1000 .

@@poorboymechanic5280 Cut the wires and splice them back together by whatever method you like, as long as the wires have a break. I use inline wago connectors. Quick and easy, just tape them afterwards to keep the elements out

@@poorboymechanic5280 Hi sorry for late reply. A capillary break is simply a break in the wire/ insulation. The simplest is to cut the wire and region using crimp on connectors. The wires to the water pump are pretty well protected from the elements so crimp connectors should be fine or you can give them a smear of vaseline .

@James N, not sure as I think the XF 2015 is the newer model to mine. It might be in the same place. But I think the principles are still the same. You could try hot water in the washer tank (not boiling !!) as that might dissolve the gunk in the bottom.

Hi Joe, could I please pick your brains, when I press the washer button on my Jaguar XF 2013 , the wipers sweep but the washer water sprays intermittently, they spray with every sweep ? is this correct or should they spray constantly. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Martin

  • @joewoodford9428

    @joewoodford9428

    Жыл бұрын

Hi Martin, if you press the button once the wipers will move and the water jets out only twice. If you hold the button in you will get a repeat of the two jets of water each time it finishes a set. So no constant stream of water. The final weep of the wiper blades is to clear the residual water run down, across or up the screen, then the wipers stop. Hope that helps you out.

My xf 3.0 was sent recently for a brake pad replacement, the stupid workshop fellow opened the battery, and got my bcm corrupted, I got it reprogrammed and everything is working again, the only issue is my wiper does works, but the water in the pipe is not coming. Neither the water pump is running. Neither the windshield or the headlight both pumps not working. Can anyone tell me, Is it because of the bcm issue which happened recently, if yes how can I resolve it?

Hi VFR Bore: Sorry no, the pressure from the pump just would not release the water through it, as per the end of the video comments. You can see the length of the spring in the new unit was much longer than the stock item so it was putting too much pressure on the diaphragm to release any water and the motor did sound unhappy ! I need to try the modified value now as I have cut back the spring to match that of the stock unit. Not tested yet as just happy I have water out of the jets!! :)

Hi Sajid, is the pump not work, ie it not making a sound or no water out of the jets. If you can hear the pump worth checking for blocks in the pipework, The T Piece was the issue on my Jag in the end as the diaphragm has perished!
