Other common faults you missed are: 1. door locks failing, especially the driver's door. 2. Rotating air vent not working due to a stripped plastic gear (usually the one on the right hand side) - an easy and cheap DIY fix. 3. Leather covering to dash debonding/bubbling.

Had my 2013 XF D2.2 since new in 2013. Over 135,000 miles. It's had new brake calipers and a new EGR this week for the MOT. That's the first trouble in 135,000 miles. I have an advisory for prop shaft bearing but it's not noisy so it can wait. It's a high mileage car and I've more than had my money out of it. Brilliant.

Everyone, thank you for all of your comments. I'm buying an XF at the end of this year for my business. I've had a ton of people try to talk me out of it. Not one of them has ever owned one. I'd rather take advice from other Jag XF owners. The fact is, every car on the planet will sooner or later have issues.

Think of it this way: The main guts are - barring the cooling issues noted which I also had on my XJ Supercharged - very solid. The superchargers are lower maintenance than a turbo. The engines are lower RPM than a comparable turbo V8 or V6 from the Germans so they have less stress and should last better. The transmissions are reliable ZF units. The brakes and suspension are basically German parts bin. The hood struts even are German. So, yes, it's "English", but it's really made from sound parts for the most part.

Get the extended warranty and everything is taken care of. I am on my 2nd XF and looking for a 3rd later this yr. they are great cars with very very low maintenance issues. Without a warranty any high performance luxury car will be expensive to repair. Most extended warranties run about $1200 to $2500 USD, Jaguar CPO certification goes up to 100,000 mi. I have owned Mercedes, BMW, Corvette, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Ford. Jaguar is the best bang for the buck combination of performance and luxury.

Had my 2012 XF-S for 4 years now. The washer issue is quite common to be honest. It's a basic design fault. The pump is too low in the tank so the crud that build up and should normally sit harmlessly at the bottom, gets dragged into the filter and clogs it up. Easy enough fix but you do have to remove the wheel and get behind the liner to pull the pump, then just clean the filter and flush the tank. I've also had a problem with the non return valve causing low pressure at the jets - again cheap/ easy to replace. Other issues are boot lid wiring loom breaking - needed a new one - again very common. Anyone with a facelift model - look into the issue with washer pumps wicking water to the central junction box - easy to swap the pump for a redesigned version but very expensive to fix if you ignore it.(I've replaced the pump and put a mechanical break in the wires). Other than that, pretty much problem free.

I must be lucky. I have a 2009 XFR 5.0Ltr V8 Supercharged model with sunroof and lots of nice features installed. It now has just under 90,000km on the clock. I have had NONE of the problems you describe in your video, but two that I have had that are not mentioned. The first was a "Boot Open" message which was incorrect. Biggest impact was that I could not lock the car electrically and had to do it manually with the key itself. Source of the problem was quickly identified by my Third Party Jaguar Service guys (who have seen this problem before). The wiring loom extending into the boot lid via a rubber conduit has a production problem in that the wire attached to the boot sensor is about a cm or so too short. Repeatedly opening and closing the boot broke the wire. The service guy fixed the problem by splicing in an extra 2-3cm of wire to reconnect and problem solved. The other problem is that the sunroof has slightly dipped on one of the front corners and no longer sits flush with the roof line. The sunroof, when in closed position, is still waterproof so there is no immediate problem. Trouble is the whole headlining will need to be removed to determine what needs to be fixed. Then the parts need to be ordered and received and installed and hopefully the problem will be solved. But the car will most likely be off-the-road for a week or so minimum (not to mention I will probably have to order multiple parts, not all of which may be needed. Ouch!). Living in Warsaw, Poland, will add to the delay, as the parts will need to be sourced from the U.K.. As you can guess, I have not yet tackled this problem. Other than the above, it is a wonderful car to own and I have now driven it through many of the mountain passes throughout Europe. I am an Australian enjoying my photography and I am having the best ever driving experiences. Just in case you're interested, it's a relatively big car with 510bhp on tap and on these trips I still average only 10.8Ltr/100km.

Same as the rest. I've had my XF SV8 since 2009, 140k miles. Not had one of these issues. The only non routine work I've had done is a new exhaust (after grounding it), and replacement of the coolant tank. Most reliable car I've ever had. I feel sorry for Ford. Things that will break - Number 6 - Creaking headliner ! - I've owned over 50 vehicles in my time and the XF is a joy to drive with an abundance of Grace Space and Pace.To date I've had no issues with it other than changing the front discs @ 44k and an air sensor fail ( shortly after not using the super unleaded in the 5.0 V8 as there was none available ). Both were cheap and easy fixes. Fabulous cars although I prefer the older model interior and dash.

I purchased an ex demo XF R Sport in August 2016, so far I have covered 52,000 miles and apart a rattle in the rear mirror casing which was fixed within the third week of purchasing the vehicle, it has been faultless. The mpg is not exactly as frugal as Jaguar claim, but that goes for most car manufacturers. The handling on 22 inch wheels is sublime, yet the ride is still smooth. I previously owned a BMW 535i for three years under contract, it was a shed, in particular electrical gremlins and at 70/75 mph it had a flat spot. I took it back on three occasions regarding the problem, but the BMW dealer insisted there was nothing wrong with it and refused to road test it as the issue was above the national speed limit. The XF is far superior in my opinion in nearly all departments.

Windscreen washer failure is the filter grommet on the pump blocking. Remove the front wheel pull back the wheel arch liner and pull the pump and grommet. Just clean and refit. 30 min job. Most common failure on the XF is the boot lid wiring loom. It breaks at the grommet. Very easy to replace. Causes locking, parking sensor, camera etc to play up. New loom £75 from Jaguar.

I'm a Jaguar XF owner. I have a 3.0d from 2010. In my case the car has broken the engine two times. The first one with 200.000 kms, and the second one with 300.000 kms. The first time the engine was repaired by an oficial mechanical workshop, and they didn't tell me the reason of the problem. The second time I have brought the car to a specialits, they work is to repair and reconstruct engines of luxury cars. They have told me that the reason of the problem has been the anti-particle filter (FAP). It was saturated, and this makes that the fuel injected to clean it goes back to the engine, to the oil. This makes the oil to loose its properties what got the crankshaft broke into three pieces . As the official house didnt changed the FAP the first time, the engine got broken again after 100.000 kms. The problem is that this XF does not give any information about the health of the FAP, it is a big problem. It is a not very known problem, but there have been more than one jag diesel with this expensive fault.

First run production on the 2008 one have a chance of the windscreen delaminating. This was caused by bad batch from pilkington. Jaguar didnt issue a recall at the time and waited for users to contact them (at the time most under warranty). I picked up a low mileage 08 a few years ago going from my S Type and had it about a year before my main touch screen decided to go blank. Turned out the windscreen had delaminated under the seal allowing moisture in which ran along the cable bundle and shorted out 3 of the units. So wound up with new windscreen, 3 replacement units and a control bundle. They ended up with having to virtually strip the entire dashboard out, windscreen, seats, carpet and pretty much the entire front of it, Give Grange their due they did it quite quickly. So yeah, watch out for early glass. Oh and yes the battery draining does happen as well from time to time, just remember to run it or charge it up if you arent using it very often. I still have it and despite its occasional electrical quirks its a lovely car to drive and run, but then again, its a jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.

The main cause for battery draining is using a cheap ODB code reader which have been known to leave the computer running all the time. This can be fixed by disconnecting the battery lead for a few seconds after reading the codes. I have a 12 year old XF in which I have done 130k (155k total) and it has been great.

We've recently just traded in our 2012 XF after 93I miles. This the revised model (slimmer headlamps) from the vloggers. Really reliable, the only fault that matches his model was the reversing camera occasionally wouldn't switch on. I had the clips on the intercooler replaced with bolts by Jag Assistance at home after the clips came loose. One door mechanism was replaced under warranty after sticking. Front light cluster replaced under warranty Most serious, the battery and started motor had to be replaced under warranty. Look after the car, get it serviced, maybe keep a warranty up on it. They are really REALLY nice cars.

I purchased a pre-owned 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio edition. I have had none of the problems he mentions in this video and now have almost 75k miles on it and it's 6 years old. Two years old when I bought it. My best recommendation is that when you purchase the car you purchase a warranty program. There are a lot of them out there. Never accept the 1st offer, the more times you say you need to think about it. They will add more options free of charge. I got the Diamond level for the cost of a basic level if I not said no a couple of times. Actually it is in the shop for the 1st time ever due to the water pump failing. The warranty is covering everything except my $100 deductible. Saving me apx. $1,200 which is about 1/2 of what I paid for the warranty on the 1st issue. If you can't afford the added warranty don't buy a car. Any car especially a Jaguar, Audi, BMW or Benz. These cars are very expressive to repair.

Interesting comments! 2021 and in Ontario,Canada and I am considering buying a 2018 Jag X-ray diesel. The vast majority of the comments I have read, say that this is the best-est yet and the best since sliced bread! However,I shall carefully consider some of the comments before parting with my money…thank you commentators!

I have a 012 xf portfolio . I replaced the coolant tube in back of the motor, intake tube broke at throttle body , starter button replaced . Love the car wish they used better plastic for parts. I own a str also the finishes aren't even close . Great cars I've also replaced the direct pressure sensing valve on a/c twice . My a/c guy said it's not a great design .

I have the MY11 XF and have not observed any of those nine issues to date. I steer clear of the dealers and have the car regularly serviced by a trusted mechanic who actually does the service book servicing to the letter. One dealer was caught out when they assumed I was a typical non-mechanically minded person and they did not perform any of the servicing that they charged me for and then indicated that the vehicle did not have "auto-sensing wipers" when it is clearly listed on the factory build sheet. Hence not using that dealer again.

Still own a 2011 premium luxury XF. Haven't experienced any of these problems apart from a slow computer system driving the touch screen. My main issue is the black rubbery control buttons in the centre console and the steering wheel are degrading and getting sticky. Really annoying.

I have XF now for three years, never had any isue with the car. Very satisfied with my decision and how the car behaves on the road. I can compare it with BMW 5 as my son owns it and I will definitely buy a JAG again, as it is much more fun to drive on curved roads we have in my county.

Only issue I have on my 2014 XF is shortly after purchase at 13k miles, the motor for one of the climate vents stopped working. I manually move it up and down to avoid the cost of the repair.

window regulators can fail as the wires that move the window up and down rust and break, it's £500+ for Jag to do it but units can be bought on line for about £150 if you can do it yourself, it happen to a friends XF....but in 18 months has been the only issue

@@denisehoward4293 I don't know about where you live but main dealer prices are often quite high. If you're not buying a new car a good independent garage usually charges much less. As my jaguar is nearly 21 years old I get very cheap classic insurance and I service the car myself.

These are not new cars, so you DON'T take them to the dealer unless you are totally stupid. What you do is diagnose the fault, buy the part on ebay and find a garage with a low labour rate to fit it on. Water pump £40 ebay and £60 labour = £100 Some fool on here will be claiming it costs £2000 for a water pump. There is nothing intrinsically complex about this car, It's 9 years old, you don't get a 9 year old car serviced at a main dealer, that's just nuts. Main dealers aren't special, they can't change the oil or fit new brakes any different to a backstreet garage. But people seem to think there is some kind of magic about being ripped off by the dealer. Its only worth it on a new car to sell on with service history, after 9 years service history is pretty much irrelevant unless you own a Bentley, Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Jaguar wanted £ 238 just for an oil change ! I did the oil Castrol magnatec, filters and fuel filter myself for £98 service reset sequence on KZread. One of the easiest cars to work on. Brake pads and discs are easy to do as well. Parts are cheap too.

I am the owner of jag xf Sportbrake 2.2d- 2014. I have it for almost 2 years, 300.000+ kilometres. So far I experienced: 1. Gear Switcher issue- after I drove 1100 km in one go (4 small 10-15 min breaks). I had arrived to my destination, the day after I had this issue. Had to turn on/off car for like 10 times when finally I could switch the gear to D. After that I have never experienced this issue, however, sometimes it has a delay when it comes to move up 2. Winter, engine works really weird and hard (maybe because of a low temp? I am not an expert) 3. Central lock of right rear doors broke And that’s it :). Still happy owner, but soon for sale. New baby on my radar!
