Finally someone which explains simple everything,really appreciate it,thank you!Got delivered horrible by amazon from a local store a sweet little jade,was literally thrown in a box and soil was everywhere in the box,but somehow it survived!I ve repotted it quickly as it was almost dead(all yellowie and mushy)thought wont make it,then suddenly seen its leaves getting a nice green colour and sturdy leaves.Its something magical about these plants,they look out of this world for some reason,not usual kind of flowers,which is exactly why I love them!Thank you again for your advices,really helps me a lot!

I just got my first coral jade today hopefully I'll grow it into a bonsai ..

great video! i recently got two gollums and your tips are very helpful. white spots appeared on them a couple of days ago so i rubbed them off and sprayed the leaves with a mix of vinegar and baking soda, they look better already. from now on i'll try to use rain water on them and hopefully avoid new white spots. thank you!

Hey there, Firstly thank you for putting this video up. It helps us beginners become good plant parents. Secondly, I recently got a new Indian Jade plant for my balcony. I repotted it in a soil mixture with equal parts of soil, sand and coco peat and a little bit of organic manure. I also watered it but unfortunately the plant is losing a lot of leaves which are getting sort of wrinkled and dropping off. I can’t really tell what the issue is. I also tried to water it again in case it was not getting enough water and let the rest of the water drain out. I am really worried for his health. Do you think I should it put in my balcony right now where it can get direct sun for about 5-6 hours ? How long should I wait before I decide to repot it again? Please help me with this. I really don’t wanna see this plant die. Thanks in advance ❤

I got my first plant today and I’m so glad I found this channel. I am super nervous🥺

I have a tiny gollum that I water every 10 days or so, I hold off watering until the soil gets dry as you said. However, today two of the leaves fell off while I was trying to check the soil. Do you think I'm overwatering it? What could be the reason if not? Thank you for sharing your tips!

Hi Tucci! If you are seeing any wrinkling on the leaves, it would be a little underwatered. If you are seeing translucent mushy leaves, it's overwatering (although I would doubt that would be the case if it's small and you water about every ten days.) It could also just be that they were knocked off when you were checking the soil, it can just pop off a leaf here and there. If it was just a couple leaves and you aren't seeing any wrinkling or mushy leaves, it's probably fine. Check it over for pests though, just in case. 💚🙂

Hi! Sorry in advance, I have a lot of questions and no one seems to be able to give me a clear answer 😅 Here goes: Do you know how to prune a hobbit jade plant? All the tutorials are only for the regular ones and I can't visualize it on my plant (especially the leave nodes part) What does a leggy hobbit jade looks like? How do you know which leaf to prune and how to shape it? How long does it take to turn into a more 'woody' tree?

Hi! I don't think people really prune Jade plants unless they are getting too big and out of control. You won't really find regular leaf nodes on a jade like a leafy houseplant would have. If you just need to cut off a section for so e reason, just go for it. Jade's are tough and can handle it. A leggy jade Hobbit will have a lot of stem and fewer leaves. It Will look less compact than a regular jade plant. It can take some time before Jade's get to that woody tree stage. It varies of course but mine started to look more like a tree after 2 or 3 years. I hope this helps!

Do you have any recommendations for where to buy healthy jade plants? I live on the East Coast and finding succulents around here is hard. Also, are there any organic fertilizers that don't use animal byproducts that you can recommend? Thanks! This was a lovely video!

Thank you!!! 💚 If you can't really find nice healthy Jade's in stores (plant shops, big box stores) then I would try Etsy! (Too cold to ship right now, but you can order in the spring.) There is an organic fertilizer called Marphyl that uses phytoplankton (still kind of an animal though), you can also you seaweed fertilizers. There are a bunch of different kinds if you do a google search for seaweed fertilizers, but that's probably your best bet for both organic and animal free.

Hello, I bought one today but didn’t notice until I got home that it has a rotten stem coming out. How should I handle it? I read to take it out of the potting and let it dry for a few days but I don’t think that will get rid of the rotten part.

If it's the main stem that's rotten, you need to cut off any healthy parts you still see and repot them to propagate them. It's easy to do. If it's a rotten side piece or shoot, then you can just cut that part off with no need to repot it.

Golum and hobit are not the same but close hobit are contorted but golum are more contorted

Yes, I agree. They are different but very similar.

Two years ago I bought one and since then the leaves have been falling off and I have no idea what’s happening with the plant. I don’t even water it often just when I see that it needs water, recently I discovered some kind of red bugs and white things. Should I change the pot and the soil?

That makes a lot of sense. Pests can suck a plant dry. It depends on what kind of pests you have. It sounds like it could be spider mite and or mealy bug (can't be sure without seeing it). If it is spider mite and mealy bug You can treat it without repotting it, if it's not too bad of an infestation.

So this plant would love a sunny balcony, right?

it does not adore lots of direct sunlight it will go dormant when too hot, Ideal for it is 4 hours of morning sun and it shouldn't be in mid day sun

It's hard to say without seeing it, but it sounds like it could just be a little dehydrated. If you are seeing shrinking and shriveled leaves, it needs more frequent watering.

I thought it only happen on one leaves but then it happen on another leaves too. I was super sad and didnt know what to do. Hey there! I have a really big hobbit jade which has been so healthy for years but recently lots of leaves have been falling off. Most leaves are plump and well, but others turn from perfect to yellow and drop off within a couple of days. Not overwatered and has been in the same location. The one strange thing is little dark hair like things are growing from some stems? Any suggestions on what they are and what could be wrong would be gratefully received as I love this plant!!!

Hi! These little dark hair things, they could actually be roots. Sometimes succulents push out roots from what seem like the most random places, like on the stems or nodes out in the open air rather than in the soil. If this is what's happening, your plant is actually telling you that it would like more water than it has been getting. If the leaves shrivel and then yellow and pop off, this would also indicate underwatering. I would suggest checking those "hairs" and see if they are roots. If they are, then you know what your Jade is telling you. If not, we can keep working on a solution.

Also, I normally know when to water when the leaves wrinkle and get soft, but none are wrinkled. Thanks so much for your help!

@@sirsarks869 yes, I do think it is dried up roots, because they do dry up if they don't eventually find soil/humidity. I personally don't wait for the leaves to show signs of needing water with jade plants (although I do with some others). I would just wait for the soil to be dry and then water (once a week-ish). But regardless of when WE think the plant needs water, it is giving you clear signs that it wants more frequent watering. And if you were only seeing air roots, maybe it wouldn't be watering, but you are also seeing shriveled yellow leaf drop, so I think I think it's a pretty safe bet. 💚

You can just pull / wiggle it off. It sounds like there may be some overwatering going on, make sure to let that soil fully dry out between watering. Glad it's only one leaf! 💚

You can place it in a window. 6-8 hours of direct sun is best, but you would be surprised how versatile they are.

Mine has leaves that turn black then basically turn into an ash. What does that mean?

That is usually caused by overwatering. Make sure to let the soil fully dry between waterings. If it's not too many leaves, the plant will likely recover with proper care, if it's gotten really bad, you might want to take some cuttings to propagate it.

Hi Dairis, have you noticed that yourself with your plants? I completely respect what you're saying, I have read that before. But that's not my experience. I agree that if it gets too hot or too much sun the plant will suffer which is why I address the signs of that. But I have some Jade plants in less sun and some in hot midday sun and they do really well and they will take on more of the red colour on their leaves. In fact I used to grow one where it only got hot midday sun and it was fine. I love how versatile they are! But I would love to hear about your experience. 💚

That is a sign of overwatering. let hat soil get really dry before watering it. if it's looking really bad, if the soil is moist at all right now, take the root ball out of the pot and wrap it in paper towel and try to get as much moisture out of it as possible. let it stay fully dry for a few days before you start to water again.

@@pinkibhutia3492 you can take any healthy section of the plant right now, chop it off and propagate it in some soil. If it looks like your plant is doing really poorly, I would do it right now to save what you can. Cut off some nice sections and let there wounds dry and callus over, which will take a few days and then set them in some soil.
