    And to think, that used to be an artesian well with a plume they said was so large you could not drown in it! In 2011, in the drought, there was dust on top of the water downstream at Blue Hole. Broke my heart! That area was part of my childhood!

    We tried to Kayak here just a week ago and a park worker at Jacobs well told us the river wasn't navigable wouldn't let us take a picture of the well or go upstream. I would definitely do this in the off season of the park or before hours. Great video! We still had lots of fun going down river after.

    Basically the cabins down stream from Jacobs well are privately owned by my family and other property owners. Some are AirBnb and will give you access to the creek. I wouldn’t go now tho water levels are lower than they have ever been in years.

    This place is practically in my backyard and I pretty munch lived there with my friends back in high school. • @GatewoodBrown

    @GatewoodBrown

    This is such a special place, so cool that you grew up by it! I would disagree videos like this are the reason there are reservations simply because Jacob's well was reservation and paid entry long before blogs and videos were spreading it around. Anytime you have a natural wonder 45 minutes from millions of people, you're bound to have crowds. It is unfortunate but the new norm for texas swimming holes.

    @@GatewoodBrown I like your vids. All love. But the internet for sure blew up this spot. The reason they started reservations, limiting people and making people pay cuz too many people were coming and trashing the place and inevitably eroding the banks. They have to do what they can to protect it. It's changed ALOT over the years. I've been around that spot for a min.

    I love your videos! my husband and i are very new to kayaking and have only done rentals. We would love to buy our own and start going more often. Jacobs well is a must do for us! I have a few questions... 1. How do you know the conditions prior to going to places like this? Would it be safe for athletic and fit but new to kayaking. 2. What do you suggest as far as transportation? take 2 vehicles, bike, walk? 3. What time of year do you think would be best to visit this trail? Would the water conditions be constant year round? I would love for you to do a beginners series and focus on some of the above questions. I think what holds me back mostly is the uncertainties of when and where to go and how to know if its safe, what problems we could expect and how to overcome them. Thank you so much! Im a huge fan already!

    Thank you so much! So I've started to do a series about beginner planning etc. Check out my two most recent videos and see if that helps you out, more on the way but those should help get you on your first trip at least! I don't recommend paddling jacobs well just because it is so hard to get to. 1. Check the USGS flow rates. 75 and up in the hill country generally means good flow. 150 cfs and up is where you truly want to be though. 2. Take at least two cars, leave one at the take out, then drive to the launch. 3. Spring and fall are best since that's when it rains most and fills up the rivers. Summer is notoriously low and winter can lend to some good paddling just not much rain though.

    Another great video! I was wondering where your put in location is? For this route is a reservation needed? Also I would love if you could put your routes/put in & take out. I’m just a beginner here sorry for all the questions. Your videos convinced me to buy some kayaks! So one of my biggest concerns is really where to leave my vehicles how do you decide where to leave them?

  • @GatewoodBrown

    @GatewoodBrown

    4 жыл бұрын

    This is a really tough paddle and requires a long route to the put in. There are so many low water dams that I honestly will never do it again. It’s just not worth it when you have places like the Guadalupe so close. Leaving vehicles is tricky because you don’t want to get broken into or towed! That’s just as big of a deal as the section you’re researching

    It’s hard to give access points since flow rates really change the characteristics of a river. It’s best to talk with local outfitters and guides before your trip. They’ll be able to steer you towards the best section to paddle.
