Jackson Kayak Flow Complete Walkthrough

Ойын-сауық

Dane Jackson gives a complete bow-to-stern walk-thru of the new Jackson Kayak Flow.
The Jackson Kayak Flow was designed with the goal of modernizing the River Running Creek Boat for all skill levels. After the success of the Gnarvana the core design team implemented some of their most loved features into a shorter lighter package while preserving the true nature of a River Runner. The perfect combination of confidence where you need it, and sportiness when you want it.
Whether you are just starting out or pushing the boundaries with Class V, this boat will take care of you. It has a full-on creek boat hull with a slimmed-down deck and shorter length for a lighter, nimble, easy-to-turn, easy-to-boof, easy-to-carry experience with maximum maneuverability. Want a modern creek boat rocker profile without all the weight and volume? The Flow is just what the doctor ordered. #findyourflow

I like the design. This looks like a good boat for class 2 boaters who go down pool drop rivers. No need for those kind of boaters to get in a "bulbous" banana rocker boat that won't go straight. Regular boaters don't run 50 foot water falls. They go down stuff with a few 2+ rapids and maybe one to three class 3s in there as well. In between that stuff is surfing, eddy turns, class 1 boulder gardens and a few bouncy wave trains and quite a bit of moving flat water. This looks like a boat for the masses. Which is good because there is nothing I hate more than pros making boats just for the elite pros to ride. I paddle a Zen3 and while I like the stability, it has gotten too "boring". (and slow). (and heavy). Jackson NEEDS to come out with an answer to the Pyranha's 9R2 and the Scorch. What say you???

Definitely designed to be great for the entire range of paddling skill levels. Forgiving and easy to learn in, but also forgiving and easy to stout :)

I'm not sure but it's lighter than my Gnarvana .. and you really feel it when paddling / carrying it because of the slightly shorter length. I think we're all stoked about how 'light'' it is but that might be in part just the reduced swing weight, will try to find a scale. Felt noticeably easier walking back up the rapids for repeat laps.

Different boats. This is not a substitute for a ~100 gallon creek boat. It is, however, a more enjoyable and appropriate boat for the vast majority of kayakers

The Gnar is one of JK's best selling creek boats of all time. It's still the best option for people looking to push their comfort levels on water that is hard and scary for them. The Flow is a much smaller boat--think somewhere between a Gnar and an antix....lots more nimble and fun to surf, but definitely NOT quite as forgiving and confidence-inspiring as a Gnar. -Stephen Wright

If I weigh 175 and I'm 5'11 and this is the answer to the gnarvana, why wouldn't I just buy a small gnarvana instead of a M Flow?

this isn't a replacement Gnar, it's a much smaller, sleeker boat. The shape of the Flow will never be as forgiving as a Gnar if you're looking to run things that scare you. BUT the Flow will out-surf and be more nimble and fun than even a small Gnar on harder runs that don't require all the volume of a Gnar. A small Gnar at 175 lbs is just gonna flow low and be unstable compared to a Flow M or Gnar M. Make sense?

Look, Listen, you guys need to make a GNARVANA+Sized for all us beef eatin', milk drinkin', concrete pourin' Montana Boy's. 30 Inches wide, 125 gallons, 10'3. That's the boat that needs to come out, hell just take the Gnar large and scale it up to 125 and sell 'em for 1800 dont worry if it's perfect, man it would be a beautiful thing. Think about it as gallons/lb of body weight. For 230 lb guys, they NEED a 125 gallon boat to have the Same ratio as DANE in the Medium GNAR!

I foresee a lot of gnars for sale! Great boat but a bunch of wordsmiths, dentists and docs bought them and I'm sure the gnar is waaaaaaaaay too much boat for them and what they run. They'll be trading into the flow if they keep boating. More manageable... shorter, narrower, nimble... Heck now only if it had a wheel like Corrans hammer... Oh and no offense to wordsmiths docs and tooth docs... As Tom Leykis says... I'd have gotten into one of those professions but then I'd have to take a pay cut! This boat should definitely "flow" off the shelves well done Jackson!

Hmm, so the boat is a little shorter and has less rocker than the "modern" creeker/river runner boats? you mean it's like boats from 10 years ago? ;< )

  • @stephenwright8779

This boat is shorter than modern creekboats, but with more rocker than 90% of modern creek boats. It's basically a shorter, sleeker Gnarvana that's more geared towards surfing and all around river running. Much more forgiving than a half slice, significantly more nimble and fun than a full-on creek boat.

Saying it ''has less rocker'' isn't a perfect description, since it's shorter.. the ends don't carry on with the curve so you're gonna feel OODLES of rocker in this boat, it doesn't stick up or out on the ends as much since it's lower deck and shorter length.. but lifting the bow is EASY compared to the 8'6'' river runners of the past. We just all got pushed to make ''Race Boats'' for the last few years.. longer and flatwater faster.. and these are far more focused on 'fast and easy in rapids' than 'fast in flats but for experts in rapids'.

Only in length... the modern design features put it on a different planet than anything we had before. You'll obviously see cycles in what people want to buy and resulting trends as far as longer, shorter, faster, etc, but there is significant evolution happening with both design and technique in these boats. The 9' boats with excessive speed and rocker have dramatically shifted the way we paddle and the techniques we use, but not everyone wants or needs a race boat. This return to a shorter river runner/creeker uses the best part of that newer design technology but applies it to a much more relaxed and enjoyable day on the river. It would blow away any of the boats that we had 10 years ago. In short, yes there's a cycle and it will likely continue as trends, but there's a crazy amount of progression in design, technology, and technique that's going with it. Try it out! You'll notice the difference for sure.
