I would say the charvel rides above in playability and sound, but like you said it's its own beast if you prefer a raw sound! I prefer a charvel over Jackson but that's just personal preference.

Aye, thanks a ton! And if set up with the right gauge, I feel it would do whatever tuning you choose justice! My fleet of stars, I play a whole step down, D standard, and drop C with Elixir Optiweb 10-52's, and they're solid! I think the JS Series Gus G axe will do everything you ask!
Do you like the Jackson star as much as the charvel? Is there any significant difference between the two? TFS Enjoyed!

I definitely prefer my Charvels! Mine are all bolt necks, and have more sustain to my ears. The Gus star is more bright and raw sounding? Still its own beast!
