went to a bruce springsteen concert at the L A coliseum. during the born in the usa tour and it was a great show, after he did his encore and the lights my girlfriend and i stayed in our seats waiting for the parking lot to clear outsome.well about 45 minutes later POOF the lights went back out and bruce and the E street band came back and said they felt like playing just a little bit longer and we hope you wont mind, My girlfriend and I moved up to 4th row center stage and watched them play for another hour and a half, every time i play this song it reminds me of a generation of kids and musicians who just loved the music GOD BLESS AMERICA

I can't hear this without thinking of my Husband. He was an electrical, audio engineer and production and auditorium manager for "Little Nashville Opry," in Nashville, Indiana. But he freelanced with many stars...in many venues, all over the USA. He loved Jackson Brown and this song... Cancer is a horrible thing!

Grew up to this song! The best song ever! Thanks to my mom (R.I.P. Mary Wood) Who was a singer, writer, teacher & musician. Its down to earth, most truthful song for all of many people who were overlooked in music industry, roadies, semi drivers, lightmen, electrical, All the ones setting up and down a concert to me are considered to be a part of music industry...my bro in law (R.I.P. Allen Hake) did the same and even played bkup if someone couldnt play ( 70s-90s)...He met Jackson Brown!(Among many many others)...I was sooo jealous!!! 💞

I first heard Jackson Browne in the fall of 1974 in my first semester in college. He has been my favorite performer, singer/songwriter, and poet ever since. He is a sage and storyteller for our generation and an avenue into the meaning of our existence, losses and wins, and political perspectives. I have nothing but love and well-wishes for this genius, poet and pied-piper of the spirit. We all will be forever grateful...

Another way to think about those lyrics is young kids working for a low wage in a job that gets them close to the performers, watch the shows for free and have some fun. This was likely a temporary job for most people. Who makes a career out a being a Roadie? Get real.

Melancholy....that's what I feel at the start...and then....Stay. Touching? In a way I guess. Jackson Brown as a balladeer? Telling us a story....letting us in on what's it like....the highs and lows....People stay just a little bit longer....let us reach you....and please...reach us. Symbiosis...a coming together in a way that only performers and audiences understand. Maybe that is the perfect moment in time. Thanks Jackson.

Wow, I agree about the video, absolutely brilliant! Thank you! I recall the 60s, playing drums, going from place to place, not in the same league as Jackson, and always in our own transport, but the message was exactly the same then as it is now. The playing time was what it was all about and was just too darned short! I was always too nervous to go on, but then never enjoyed finishing, we could've played all night back then. Car was always packed up the previous night so we were ready to go, and sometimes we'd travel a fair way but we were never late except when we got home! Great song(s).

This song is Always shortened when it's played on the radio or in a jukebox. That's a crying shame! It's pure gold in it's entirety.🥰

My brother in law drove semi truck for rock stars all over the nation. Still have tickets to Steve Winwood and his show. We went backstage after concert and met he and his band. Treated like we were royalty!

This is the guy that started all that awesome West Coast music way back in the early 70's, he showed them all how to do it including Linda Ronstadt who in turn practically put together the Eagle's herself, she told Henley and Frey that if they wanted to start a band they would be needing Randy Meissner on bass and a guy named Bernie Leadon, who was the bands first lead guitarist, nice work Jackson and Linda, great inspiration for alot of those up and comers.

Spent almost 2 decades in the San Francisco music scene at the best time, 1967-1985, as a band manager and live audio engineer (I just turned 76 and hate that I can't mix anymore because my high-end hearing is gone). I remember when this song came out, listening to it on FM while repairing electronic equipment in my shop. The song says what it's really like, so I loved it immediately. The arrangement and performance were just outstanding! This is an absolute favorite of mine. The photo montage was excellent, BTW, conveying very well what a live show was like behind the scenes.
