Jón Páll vs Capes: 1984 Part 2/2 (Slay Push, Arm Wrestling)
Спорт
Jón Páll Sigmarsson and Geoff Capes battled for the title World Strongest Man for a few years. They were two good friends off the field but on the field they were animals.
Their second battle was in 1985 (for the title WSM 1984) in Mora in Sweden. The competition was held at a location where it was freezing and there was snow everywhere. For some of the strongmen these circumstances were new.
Jón Páll had trained hard before the competition and he beat Capes and Capes lost his crown.
Here we can see the competitors in the slay push and in the arm wrestling.
Competitors in WSM 1984:
Jón Páll Sigmarsson (Iceland), Ab Wolders (Netherlands), Geoff Capes (Britain), Rudolf Kuster (Germany), Dave Waddington (USA), Daniel Poulin (Canada), Yngve Gustavsson (Sweden) and Pius Ochieng (Kenya)

The canadian in this clip is my uncle. He was married to my sister's mother. By the time he did this, he was a bit lighter than i can remember him. He was armwresling and wheelbarrow champion in Canada..He died about 2 years ago....Such a sensible and honest person....He is such a hero to me.He is one of my true inspiration. One thing you don't see in this clip is my uncle talking to Sigmarsson...''You and I take a match...'' with a french accent....and Sig said ''No..'' Daniel won....
Sigmarsson was a natural BEAST!
JON PALL LEGEND !!!
That's too bad about your uncle tootall. I saw this event many years ago and it was one of the reasons I got into competitve armwrestling. The way Daniel Poulin toyed with a guy who seemed to be in better shape. It always stuck with me. I remember it well. I actually think of it sometimes. I never knew your uncle but in a way, he inspired me too. I'm sorry to hear that he passed away. .. "You and I take a match?" .. "No." .."Why?" .. "He gives up. You win." .. That was classic.
'The king has lost his crown!' hahaha. I remember that.
Died from taking massive amounts of juice over the years, heart exploded from it!
look at that power in the end
Yep I agree. I like a WSM event to be heavy on the brute strength (log pressing, holding weights) and technical strength (squat / deadlift) and less reliant on fingal's fingers lol.
THe King, Jón páll
It would have been fun to see magnus samuelsson (Former european arm wrestling champion and worlds strongest man in 1998) wrestle jon pall. Magnus have never lost a wrestle.
Jón Páll gave away the final battle before it began. He had already won the title by a longshot. So Daniel Poulin from Canada won the arm wrestling
Armwrestling's both about strengh, endurance and specialy technique. If you combine theese three assets then you will get very far indeed :).
Interviewer: "Is there any way you can describe how you feel?" Capes: "Pain!"
just watch him arm wrestle Nathan "Megaman" Jones in the heats of 1995 world strongest man:)
I believe they worded it as "not invited" after he won 3 titles in a row. I suppose that would be banned. Hard to believe anything I read on the web, but that does make some sense.
you can't help but watch jon pall and particularly his trademark victory celebrations and wonder just how pumped up he was. He certainly paid a heavy price. I don't follow the argument at all that they were all on steroids. Is there an interview with Geoff Capes about the issue somewhere?
i truly and honestly believe i could beat both these at this.
that guy arm wrestl9ng sounded like a jabawaki!
The king has lost his crown.
capes is a legend
Anyone have footage or information of Kazmaier armwrestling?? I believe he was supposed to be at this event, but ended up not doing it.
Ouch
That doesn`t mean they actually used it.
wasn't he banned?

I would too. The problem is, the events today favor someone with a lot of endurance. I give Mariusz an advantage with that, but that to me isn't strength. Kazmaier beats Mariusz in power hands down. No contest.
They are pure strenght, but they had no techinique at armwrestling at all. Besides Poulin, and maybe Capes and Sigmarsson
It's a really sad thing, I would take prime Kaz over anyone even Mariusz.
This isn't how you officiate an arm wrestling match, This isn't how you arm wrestle. Arm wrestling does not have a place in strongman.
but armwrestling is not all about pure raw power... lol
magnus would win, lol, but magnus is not even close of being a world level armwrestler once... people keep saying he was the european champion and shit like that but you don't find any citation about him in any serious armwrestling board or website.
@Databamse Jon Pàll was very powerfull, but I think Magnus would defeat him.
Magnus would beat him. Jon Pall was not a armwrestler.
Lol they have no idea how to arm wrestle, the technique is terrible.
